Potentially bad news for PC-toting Alan Wake fans, a recent forum post by Remedy's MarkusRMD has left the release window of the PC version dangling in suspense. When asked directly about the development of the PC version of Alan Wake, MarkusRMD responded, "Unfortunately all I can say at this point is that we're focusing all our efforts on the 360 version and will be making comments in regards to the PC at a later in time."
While not an outright confirmation, it certainly sounds like the PC version could release later than the Xbox 360 version, which is currently scheduled to release in spring 2010. We've contacted Microsoft -- the game's publisher -- and will update this post as soon as we hear anything new.

Haha, PC-toting. I imagine people hauling around giant towers and flat screen monitors on their backs, wandering the streets and internet cafes like PC nerd drifters.

I find that impossible as most of us have never heard of these things you call "streets" and "cafes"

Yeah, PC drifter is kind of an oxymoron. Most PC gamers I know don't leave their rooms, let alone wander the streets. :P That is why it tickled me (I did it again!)

Of course it is, and that did kind of tickled me too.

So weird that I got voted down. I don't see what could be offensive/lame about imagining herds of drifting PC gamers. I obviously know what PC-toting really means, but I think the visual is awesome.

Oooh ooh but imagine how funny "HexBok360-toting" Alan Wake fans would be!!! What with all the dude-brahs wandering the streets with giant HD televisions on their backs! Hil-Arious. Now think about why you got voted down. :P
(Cause I'm a girl and ":P" makes everything I say benign and cute!)
Yay for stereotypes!

@Mike: If that's why I got voted down, why did Archi, whose entire joke is about a stereotype, get voted up to 3 hearts? I just thought the term "PC-toting" conjured up a funny visual, since you don't think of the average gaming desktop as toteable. If the article said "Xbox-wielding," I'd get just as funny of a picture (people brandishing 360s like weapons). I don't see how that has anything to do with stereotypes. I guess because I called PC gamers "nerds?" I didn't realize calling gamers "nerds" was an insult these days. Oh well, I obviously said something offensive, even though I'm not sure what it is.
But, seriously, don't bring me being a girl into this like it matters a fucking bit. Now THAT is insulting.

There cant really be fans of Alan Wake yet since the game isn't even out yet.

Well, there are always those people who don't need solid proof of a game's awesomeness to become obsessed.
I wouldn't know any of them, though.

Not even the first Left 4 Dead was ''only on 360'', so i don't know what you are getting at, other than flaming.

I think the only Xbox exclusive they have is Halo, then again that also went to the PC at some point.
Do you guys ever hold on to those games?

Meh, as usual, PC version of a 360 game will always come out better.

most likely it's the same reason as Dirt 2, DirectX 11. Alan Wake is going to be a huge GFWL title for the PC and what better than to push it back just slightly to whore out DirectX 11.
Regardless, hopefully it comes out at the same time but if not the game will be worth the wait. And maybe it'll give me time to upgrade to a DX11 card lol.

In an interview way back, a rep. from Remedy said they weren't planning on supporting DirectX 10, despite the game was going to be Vista only.(now Vista and Windows 7)

I'm not a coder or anything....but isnt the 360 so easy to code for because its damn near a PC??? so what would be the big difference to make a game thats on 360 ready for PC?? I mean you can use the 360 for Windows Controller, but mapping controls for a keyboard cant be that much of a big thing to do

Possibly because they need to make sure it runs on all the different configs and graphic cards that PCs might have
And I am not sure the 360 is good for PC porting, its not really structurally similar because of the shared memory (even low-end gaming cards have discrete memory) and the 10MB EDRAM-based AA in the 360 which is a good feature but absent in all PC cards, which means they have to work harder to ensure that turning AA on for a low-bandwidth 128-bit card does not bring framerates down.

Of the few games I plan getting on a PC or 360(if I ever buy one), this is one of them.

Well, I have a 360, but I think I'll still wait for a potential PC release. I wasn't overly impressed with the direction the game is taking based on the playthru at E3, so I can probably wait.

I'm waiting for the PC release, too.
That said, how can people have a newly-negative reaction after the E3 showing? Remedy showed a small segment of the game, not indicative of the entirety of the gameplay, and it was quite reminiscent of their earlier hit, Max Payne.
I can't imagine how anyone paying attention would have been surprised or appalled by the (recently clarified) direction.

I think the bigger news is that they actually seem intent on releasing it. We've been waiting for this for a long time.

Anyone who pirates on the PC bought a $200 X360 a LOOONGGGG time ago and has been happily downloading and playing games without the PC DRM bullshit we've been suffering for years.
If piracy is destroying the PC gaming market it's also been firmly rooted in the X360 market for years and doesn't even seem to be an issue. Weird stuff.

I didn't say I wasn't impressed, just not "Wow, that's amazing!" impressed. If it comes out and people dig it, I'll obviously be stoked to play it.
I'll still probably wait for a PC version though. And if never comes, then Alan Wake will just be cheaper when I eventually buy it on the 360.

I have little interest in the game, but this pisses me off. I just cant stand reading things like this. It may be childish, but I honestly feel directly insulted when I read these things. I even own and Xbox 360, but still....ggrrrr!!!
