In the first of a series of developer diaries for
Assassin's Creed 2, Ubisoft Montreal team members delve into the backstory of Ezio -- the game's newest assassin. Originally from a family of wealth and opportunity, Ezio is pushed into a vengeful quest when his family is threatened by people they once called friends. Set against the backdrop of a 15th Century Italy, Ezio continues the original title's story of exploring the bloodline of Desmond -- a man in the modern world forced to jump into the bloodied shoes of his ancestors through the use of a machine known as the Animus.
We're walking into
Assassin's Creed 2 with a lot of questions (namely, will it stay fresh between assassinations?), but we're excited to find out the answers. Sadly, we may have to
wait much longer than we anticipated for some of our queries to be addressed.

That felt like I was The History Channel for gaming.
ArchiGamer @ Jul 7th 2009 6:15PM
Can I get that channel with my regular subscription or do I have to upgrade to the Premium package?
paperless @ Jul 8th 2009 8:59AM
The package is a lie.

He's a rich guy with a good sense of morality who's father was killed, and in search of vengeance he learns justice is more important. He is suave and and adept at consorting with all levels of society and also has a friend (da Vinci) who designs all of his "high tech" gear.
So basically, He's Batman. Minus the no killing thing of course.
Nate @ Jul 7th 2009 6:50PM
Batman is a good thing

I wasn't a huge fan of the first game but this one is looking really impressive. It's going to be tough to decide which games to pick up around Christmas.
Easo @ Jul 7th 2009 11:17PM
I noticed that the guards still haven't figured out to help each other yet. This game could be a lot better if it forced players to think of fighting guards as a last ditch effort.
Take the splinter cell games for example. The first game forced the player to avoid conflitcts in favor of quick knockouts and stealth, and it was fantastic. Pandora Tommorrow decided to let players throw stealth out the window and it sucked. Chaos Theory again focused on stealth, and again fantastic game. Double Agent walked the line between the two and it was mediocre. See the trend Ubi, stealth works better than run n gun in spy/assassin games.

Urza @ Jul 8th 2009 1:25PM
Where is Jade now I wonder.
derek @ Jul 9th 2009 10:57AM
damnnn...this game looks sooo cool!
I better buy the first one.
This looks pretty darn cool!
Urza @ Jul 8th 2009 1:24PM
I ha the dev diarys, if you're a dev and your game is still in production, you have better things to do then sit in front of a camera and talk about the game. To me, every minute spend on shit like this is a minute taken away from polishing the game.
