ODST's Halo 3 maps revealed

With all the talk of fancy open-ended environments, playable flashbacks and new cooperative modes, we'd almost forgotten about ODST's offering of new Halo 3 maps! When it launches later this year, Bungie's latest entry in the epic space hoop saga will include a Halo 3 multiplayer disc, which will contain three new maps (in addition to all the ones you've come to love and die repeatedly in).

Be sure to take a look at "Heretic" (the return of Halo 2's "Midship" arena), "Citadel" and "Longshore" in the gallery below. We've found that staring intently at them while bobbing back in forth in our seats provides a good, albeit imperfect, approximation of actual gameplay. We're just missing the cybernetic crotch thrusting toward us in regular intervals.

totally agree with hang 'em high. i would also like sanctuary from halo 2, among others.

how difficult would it be to just re-release all halo 1 and halo 2 maps for halo 3? i'm guessing they could reuse all the object models and textures... it can't be too much more work than feeding the old object files into the new map compiler.

It's really a shame this is going to be like a robust expansion pack at full retail price. Those are some interesting-looking places to jump around and get shot at.

from what i understand, this will come with all of the previous dlc map packs. so i guess this how they are looking at it:
legendary map pack ($7.50 value)
mythic map pack ($10 value)
odst/recon map pack ($10 value)
odst campaign (single player and co-op) and firefight mode ($32.50 value?)

I loved Halo 3 for its co-op, but by that point I was sickened by its multiplayer component. I'll probably still pick it up a few months after release on the cheap, since I loved the universe/characters.

I disagree. I'm a Halo fanboy true in the blue, through and through. What's so wrong with loving a game that keeps setting and breaking records? A game that keeps sitting at the top of the Xbox Live charts? It can't be all that bad...

i'm with you. the halo games are my favorite video games of all time (mostly due to the multi, though i like the story and universe). Mass Effect and Gears of War are pretty close though.

Blood Gulch is among the top 5 maps of any Halo game. Midship is a great addition, I'm happy about that, but we're still missing Blood Gulch and Beaver Creek. Those two would complete the experience I think. And no, Valhalla is not near as good as Blood Gulch.

Of course it isn't as good, but it is essential the same map better suited to Halo 3's design. Blood Gulch/Coagulation is too open, Valhallas sporadic obstacles are a perfect fit to counter the Banshee's fuel rod cannon and spartan laser.

I'd much rather see a busier map like Headlong, Ivory Tower, Waterworks, or Boarding Action retooled for H3.

yeah blood gulch is a classic and was great back in the day, but if you go back to it, it feels kinda crappy. theres basically no cover. now, hang 'em high and beaver creek i would love to see.

Unfortunitely no, there won't be any more "recon" maps because the Legendary Map Pack will be the last map pack to be released for Halo 3. Although what I'd give for a Headlong remake...

i was always hopeful ever since I watched the deleted stuff section of the H2 collectors edition DVD and there was what was basically a gun laden jet ski, ah I never gave up hope for that thing but i guess ill either have to give it up or uselessly hope Reach will have on
