Rumor: 2K Sports prepping NBA 2K10: Draft Combine for XBLA/PSN

We call it a "dangerous door," because, frankly, it is. Many criticize sports titles for offering little variety or improvements in each yearly iteration, and Draft Combine sounds like it could be a way to milk sports fans for even more dough. Of course, not knowing further details about the rumored game, this is just speculation, and should be taken as such. Still, if it turns out as our worst fears predict (that Draft Combine is a minigame-like feature split from NBA 2K10 and sold separately), then we're sure there are bound to be some upset gamers out there. Oh, and if you're a person in the know, then feel free to hit up our tips box with more details. Anonymity assured!

I think it would be a much better idea to give it to those who preorder NBA 2K10 as a code free than as a seperate minigame that you pay for. For those who don't preorder, they can buy it if they want
RedSonRising @ Jul 7th 2009 7:14PM
i wouldnt be surprised to see a preorder tie in associated with this xbla game. its essentially the same thing that lionhead did with fable 2's pub games.
i dont like 2k9 anyway, i doubt im gonna play 2k10 at all. despite my entire friends list tellin me its better than live 09 id still rather have ball control than shoot with the right analog stick. thats just not natural for me.

Weak. Just Weak. 2K sports has a knack for releasing horrible "spinoff" games (if you can even call a sports game a spinoff of another sports game) such as MLB Front Office Manager. As if MLB 2K9 wasnt bad enough, one of the only reasons why I would get a PS3 would be the fact that I didnt have to MLB 2K9 as my only realistic sim baseball game option, they release this horrible 'game.' This and Draft Combine should be included in the games and not released separately trying to milk us out of even more money. I dont mind spening my hard-earned cash on quality DLC and expansions but these offerings from 2K Sports are just ridiculous!

Now wait a goddamn minute. This is something that EA's supposed to do...not 2k >:(
Jack_Jackington @ Jul 7th 2009 7:45PM
The old EA would do something like this. The new EA is slowly becoming the peoples champ
IF YA SMELL WHAT THE ROCK IS COOKIN
TreyIM @ Jul 7th 2009 9:34PM
Yea, the old EA and 2KSports have swapped places a bit, it seems. I know of people who didn't even buy 2K9 and got Live instead or in addition to 2K9 because they are tired of the retread the NBA 2K series has become. 2K has become complacent? I can't call it but like someone said, 2KSports did that MLB "side game" that was actually not reviewed well just like their main b-ball game.
2KSports may wanna focus on fixing the holes in their b-ball game more than anything but maybe they are hammering those out as we speak.

*pours out some of his drink for NBA2K on the dreamcast*
chrisnick @ Jul 7th 2009 7:17PM
what they need to do is not destroy the online part for ps3 again like with 2k9, got it at midnight for nothing.
Mics @ Jul 7th 2009 8:41PM
I think the PS3 destroyed the online part for PS3, not 2K.
Girugamuk (Moptimus Slimed) @ Jul 7th 2009 7:22PM
Im guessing it'll be nothing more than what Training Camp is in Madden
Brazell @ Jul 7th 2009 7:31PM
Is this really very different from Fable 2's Pub Games?
Captain Planet @ Jul 7th 2009 7:42PM
Considering how bat-shit-stupid some sports fans are,
*ahem*
http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/28/madden-10-did-ea-press-reset/
I don't think they mind being bent over and spanked over shit like this.
Vidikron @ Jul 7th 2009 7:42PM
Uh oh, everyone's blessed 2K doing a bad deed... lol.
NOT ME @ Jul 9th 2009 4:40PM
So wait they removed the streetball of the game which was really good and almost a game in itself and now a couple years later they doing almost the same thing but charging for that portion of the game.... Wtf!!!!!
schabalabadingding @ Jul 7th 2009 8:44PM
you know what captain america, i read those posts. and your the one who comes off looking dumb. I guess you dont really play madden if you think that its fine to play against cheaters. and millions of americans play fantasy football and root for their teams. how many people pay money to watch you do your job? NONE you know why? cuz your a giant dork!! and why are you going into sport game forums if your not a sports fan? oh thats right cuz your a dork. as far as the mini game 2k might release. its basically like dlc, this generation is full of it, and full of devs who want to make money off it. if you dont want it dont buy it. me I'll buy it.
Mics @ Jul 7th 2009 8:55PM
Hey, how about you don't buy it if you don't want it?
I never had a minigame to train draft picks before and it never prevented me from thoroughly enjoying NBA 2K, 2K1, 2K2, 2K3, 2K4, etc. Every year 2K repeatedly whoops EA's butt at this so I doubt an optional add-on XBLA game will make a difference either way.
2K5 will always be remembered as the year EA finally bitched out, took their ball and went home, vowing to never let 2K beat them at football again. EA still gets KILLED at basketball though because the NBA told them to F' OFF with that exclusive license BS.
VIVA LA DREAMCAST!
mdotts @ Jul 8th 2009 1:42AM
oh god no.
2k is BY FAR the best basketball game out there..........lmao Live has been complete utter garbage since 2006,
but u cant do this 2k. just put it in the regular game for heavens sake.
d889 @ Jul 8th 2009 12:30AM
i believe it, went into 2k games the other day for a game tester interview and they were asking all kinds of sports questions
Wilhelm @ Jul 8th 2009 5:12AM
Way to use a picture from the 2006 Draft lol.
Plus, it's an optional thing, big deal. Probably gonna be like $10.
Larry @ Jul 8th 2009 9:05AM
The other thing that maybe effecting this is the fact 2K is no longer in the college basketball business so they maybe trying to bring in some of the features that used to be in those games into 2k10
drdre74 @ Jul 8th 2009 10:01AM
2K needs to put all this mini game stuff to the side and make sure this year the online mode is fixed and better than last years. Online when it came out was broken and took them forever to fix and the lobby from 2k9 is total monkey booty. It was the only thing holding it back to being a perfect game.
