BioWare 'caught up' and 'pumped' on PS3 development
BioWare's Greg Zeschuk (and the team behind Dragon Age: Origins) is totally psyched to be developing on the PlayStation 3. Speaking to VideoGamer.com recently, Zeschuk expounded the team's excitement at BioWare, saying, "People on the team were really pumped to work on it ... we have a lot of people that like doing new stuff and trying new things, and they were like, wow another platform, can't wait!"
He added that the EA-owned development studio doesn't have "anything against Sony," it's just that "we [BioWare] worked with Microsoft for five years - that made it so easy to focus on Xbox and we didn't have to worry about the PlayStation platforms." Looks as though BioWare are warming up to new platforms, eh? Hang on to your butts, folks, it's a new world.

This sounds promising. As an owner of both the xbox 360, and the PS3 I have to say that it sounds great that they are "pumped" about the PS3. I personally like my PS3 more simply because I have never had a problem with it. So if more companies take a liking to it, then maybe I can finally dump my 360.
whylekat @ Jul 8th 2009 5:09PM
Most likely the games will still run better on 360 like with past multiplatform titles.
whylekat @ Jul 8th 2009 5:27PM
So dumb I get down voted for stating facts.. Majority of multiplatform games either look or run better on 360. I'm not trolling, just tellin it like it is.
Count Noobula @ Jul 8th 2009 5:33PM
@ whylekat:
In some ways the "runs better on xbox 360" argument makes no sense, and I will tell you why: Though the problems with xbox 360 may have shrunk, or just changed (E74 instead of RRoD), I (and lots of other people) have had my xbox in for repairs 8 times (and its a Falcon Elite BTW), and when you take into account shipping times, time in the shop, and shipping back I would say that I have had my xbox in for repairs 33% of the time I have owned one.
Whereas my PS3 has been completely problem free. So w/e. I am not saying the Xbox 360 is bad, or has bad games, I was simply saying that I have had a bad experience and would love it if I could get all the games I like on one system. That would include BioWare games, hence the post in the article.
whylekat @ Jul 8th 2009 5:48PM
Yeah but I wasn't at all refering to the system itself. Just the framerate/graphics of GAMES being played on that system.
Personally the only problem I've ever had with my 360 is when I got Oblivian and played it for 30 hrs straight and the disc drive burnt out.. That was almost 3 yrs ago and never had another issue since. But either way, that or E74/RROD has no bearing on the quality of the game being played.
Count Noobula @ Jul 8th 2009 6:02PM
I'm just stating that the quality of games is a moot point when your system can't play them.
Don't get me wrong though, when my 360 is working its a blast.
el serpiente @ Jul 8th 2009 6:12PM
That's not why you get voted down whyletroll.
whylekat @ Jul 8th 2009 6:42PM
Get over it serpentine. Go read a Head to Head or something =P
Maverick Saturn @ Jul 8th 2009 8:31PM
@ whylekat:
And who is that bothering except you and a couple of petty others, the fact still remains that game devs have gotten to grips with the consoles, if there are differences, they are so small and insignificant that only a nerd or a complete fanboy would take time to notice it, there are a couple of games that have blarring differences with the 360 usually looking better, but those games are far and few and usually games that make little or no difference to the sales of the console, the only exception to that is the Orange Box, modern warfare on the other hand looked beautiful on both consoles, I just happened to buy it for my xbox because of XBL otherwise I probably would have bought it for PS3 instead, the differences were that minimal. If a game developer cannot get their games to have very little difference between, that game developer is either new to the scene or is just not worth your time to begin with, good developers push either consoles in the directions they are strongest, end of story.
Sly @ Jul 8th 2009 9:22PM
summarized version of what maverick said: if you actually care about the minute differences, then you have to pay the world outside of your house a visit.
Count Noobula @ Jul 8th 2009 10:03PM
Well said Sly. I started my comment by saying I am happy that the console I like is getting good attention paid to it. Now I can dump one other console that I barely play, and now I can enjoy all the games I like one one console (PS3 for me), a PC, or a Wii.
Isaac @ Jul 9th 2009 12:30AM
First of All... COD4 was one of the sloppiest ports I've ever seen. But obviously, IW had their eyes on other prizes and needed to quickly get a game out. Treyarch gave World at War was the time for it's appearance on the PlayStation 3. The fact that I have to go to Single Player to update my online friends lists for invites instead of it just updating with the list on the XMB automatically... It also doesn't automatically switch hosts to keep you in your game room/current game like World at War does.
Secondly, I wouldn't say the actual gameplay is any better on XBOX than on PS3. Or is the online any better on PSN for what it is than it is on XBL. Load times from harddrive are about the same for both systems. Of course, Loadtime on PS3 from Blu-ray Disc is a little longer cause there's more data possibility to sift through.
Exemplar @ Jul 8th 2009 4:32PM
Good to hear Bioware, good to hear. Let me buy you a beer.
j.howlett @ Jul 8th 2009 4:34PM
i watched that movie this weekend just because i caught it at that line.
samik @ Jul 8th 2009 4:35PM
Maybe they have been talking to Square Enix? Or they realised that they have a game that PS3 owners would really love to see on their platform, in stark contrast to some other 360 exclusives
ilovethewaggle @ Jul 8th 2009 4:38PM
BioWare enters as Activision leaves....they should take this opportunity to get in on the fake instrument fad.
brain @ Jul 8th 2009 4:42PM
Mass Effect Hero?
Bodachi @ Jul 8th 2009 4:44PM
Guitar Effect?

Mass Call of Old Republic Heroes:Origins?
David @ Jul 8th 2009 4:56PM
Activision leaves PS3?
Isaac @ Jul 9th 2009 12:53AM
Activision isn't going anywhere. They make MILLIONS off of PS3 sales because of PS3 worldwide sales are about the same as 360 sales. They drop Sony and the PlayStation platform they loose millions of the 143 million PS2 owners, millions of PSP owners, and the 30 million PS3 owners.
It's just another round of rumors.
protofunc @ Jul 9th 2009 12:09PM
@Isaac
"...PS3 worldwide sales are about the same as 360 sales."
Yeah because a couple million, couple thousand - same thing same difference.
Sly @ Jul 8th 2009 4:42PM
cool. i've heard great things about mass effect so i hope we see 2 on the ps3. hell, i hope we get a port of 1 so i actually understand everything.
deanb @ Jul 8th 2009 4:50PM
You have sex with a blue alien chick.
The end.
Jack Tretton @ Jul 8th 2009 4:54PM
Yep... say what you will about blue alien chicks, but there's no denying Liara had a smokin' bod and bedroom eyes.
WREturns @ Jul 8th 2009 6:03PM
I'm trying to make Shephard have sex with a dude in my current playthrough. I'll let you know how it goes.
TheManick @ Jul 8th 2009 4:44PM
Wow, it is so refreshing to hear a developer so enthusiastic to learn new things and want to learn more about other platforms. With all the PS3 architecture hate, shitty half-assed ports and lazy developers out there, this certainly is a good read. Hope they do well and hope that more developers take note and follow suit.
dogmaticatheist @ Jul 8th 2009 4:51PM
BioWare seems to actually have talent. Valve... not so much.
Girugamuk (Moptimus Slimed) @ Jul 8th 2009 4:54PM
really? Valve doesn't have talent?
try putting aside your fanboyism before commenting, it makes you look less like an idiot
Nick @ Jul 8th 2009 4:56PM
Seriously, the Valve hate needs to stop. Creating one of the most acclaimed video game series of all time definitely does not show that the guys at Valve don't have talent. Think before you speak out of your ass.
deanb @ Jul 8th 2009 5:05PM
I dunno, Valve are pretty awesome, but they seem to be resting on their laurels a bit too much. They are still using the Source engine which is starting to show its age, and Ep3 is currently a single piece of concept artwork. I don't think they got the reason behind episodic content.
Valve games are great, but recently they have been a bit meh.
I'm gonna get downvoted but please think about it, how come they have taken nearly 2 years to make an episodic game, but can churn out a 'full' sequel in less than 1?
Not developing for PS3 is their choice though, PC is a platform they are comfortable with so let them be too it, if you can't play their games on PC then you are in need of a PC upgrade, I repeat point 1, Source engine is old.
dogmaticatheist @ Jul 8th 2009 5:15PM
I'm basing my judgement solely on their words. When someone says they don't want to do something because it's "too hard", it really calls their talent into question.
Valve will impress me when they release something other than a recycled and uninspired FPS based on a years old rendering engine. I guess Gabe Newell is waiting for id to open source their latest engine before doing that.
Maverick Saturn @ Jul 8th 2009 8:45PM
I dunno, I personally thought Portal added something new to the table, if only more had been done with it however.
deanb @ Jul 8th 2009 4:51PM
Yay for Bioware!!!
Multiplatform FTW.
If only I didn't play all my Bioware games on PC.
Still cool that I now have the option, options are good.
Sean @ Jul 8th 2009 4:52PM
I'm still suprised MS didn't buy Bioware. I bet they wanted too but the price was too high.
x Shadow @ Jul 8th 2009 5:45PM
yup that's why they bought Rare....
Sean @ Jul 8th 2009 9:43PM
Yeah... gun shy from the Rare purchase and MS Game Studios reorg.
David @ Jul 8th 2009 4:56PM
Wait. Are they making Dragon Age: Origins or Mass Effect 2 on PS3?
Sean @ Jul 8th 2009 4:59PM
Dragon Age: Origins
ME 2 is still considered a PC/360 exclusive
Sean @ Jul 8th 2009 4:58PM
Dragon Age: Origins
samik @ Jul 8th 2009 5:06PM
Looking forward to an inferior port of Mass Effect - the elevators would be missing

Terminal Reality on Ghostbuster PS3:
We’re one of the few developers who love the PS3 and have a great time with it. We have great technology for the PS3 and we want to show it off.
*game launch*
Ghostbusters on PS3 lags behind 360 version:

Try harder
Dinkin-Flicka @ Jul 8th 2009 8:27PM
I agree. Terminal Reality was saying one thing and doing the complete opposite. How do you go from low res textures on a lead platform and port to higher res textures? TR pulled a fast one, that's how.
I think NaeemTHM just doesn't want the same thing happening again. Needless to say but, Bioware is no Terminal Reality. It's actually one of the few companies whose word I do trust.
sc00by_y00 @ Jul 8th 2009 8:59PM
Naeem I was thinking the same thing,
they are in bed with Microsoft, MS will never allow them to do a good port they will probably pay them off to do a cheap port..
Do you want to know why ghost busters was so shit on the ps3 ?
Terminal Reality (often shortened to TRI) is a video game development and production company based out of Lewisville, Texas. Founded in 1994 by ex-Microsoft employee Mark Randel and former Mallard Software general manager Brett Combs,
Bet you didnt know that right ?
Valve ex-microsoft gabe newell doesnt want to have anything to do with the ps3.. Ho hum I wonder why ..
Terminal reality ex-microsoft employees talks the big talk and produces one of the worst possible ports on the ps3. Again I wonder why ...
Sony should have just dumped the project in europe instead of distributing it, but I guess money is money, they ultimately get the last laugh in terms of money made off of rights etc etc..

NaeemTHM I agree with you 100% But I don't want to pee on Sony fans parade but we have all heard this before.
atrimus @ Jul 8th 2009 5:42PM
i know it shouldn't matter to me, being the PS3 owner that i am, but lately Microsoft has been winning over developer/publisher alike; its kinda refreshing to hear something like this from Bioware, especially after years of excuses and blatant disinterest in the PS3 from a certain other pro-Microsoft studio...
atrimus @ Jul 8th 2009 5:43PM
i meant "PS360 owner". can we FINALLY get an edit feature?
