I don't think C&C can survive in this age of Starcraft 2, Dawn of War 2, Company of Heroes, etc. The franchise needs a new direction IMO, though I'm sure I'll buy it when it comes out because I'm an RTS dork.

Well if they keep making games then obviously it's doing well for them. It's not like every RTS needs to follow the same formula. Company of Heroes is cool and different, but why should every game be like that?
I like the standard RTS titles like Starcraft and C&C.

I never said it needs to be like Starcraft 2 or DoW 2, but C&C hasn't done anything different since Red Alert 2. I don't know if you play C&C regularly like I do but if you visit the EA forums you can tell that most people there are extremely unhappy with the previous 2 C&C games (C&C3 and RA3). Just because there is another C&C game coming doesn't mean the games are good. If that logic was correct, Uwe Bowl would have won 14 Oscars and 10 Academy Awards by now.

Considering the lowest score a Command and Conquer game has got on metacritic is a 75 I would say the series is doing good.

The survey sort of indicated that they're willing to go in a slightly different direction if fans are interested.

Yes, because MetaCritic is the end all be all of gaming punditry.

Alright so what would you suggest we look at then Captain Planet? You make it look like you can't come up with an argument against that so instead you try and be a dick. Great job looking like an ass.

Wait? People were unhappy with C&C3 & RA3?
I thought C&C3 went down well for getting the core series' story back on track whilst updating the engine & RA3 was quite well received for integrating co-op/teammates well and taking a few liberties with the whole land/water mechanic.
Granted, they haven't been supported as well in the multi-player side as well as they should, but that's never really been C&Cs strong point since EA took over.
Are you sure it's not more like 'I was unhappy with C&C3/RA3'?

@Optimaximal
I think he believes that if him and a couple forum posters didn't like it than no one likes it.

if C&C 4 has Kane (which it should), i will be playing this.
C&C 3 was pretty good.
RA3 was utter crap.

C&C will continue to live for awhile longer just because of the name. I haven't played the last two C&C games but, from what I understand, the games were received fairly well by the press.
@Captain Planet - Metacritic compiles the ratings from just about every professional reviewer out there (and gamers' reviews), so I would consider it quite a reliable indicator of whether or not a game is "good" overall.

They tried a new direction with Generals. Hated by the extreme fans (however, not by me, whos been playing C&C since its inception) but sprouted a few different kinds.
All I've been wanting is Generals 2.

If it's called Command and Conquer 4, it's not Generals 2. It will be a continuation of the Tiberium franchise... not a good idea IMO because the gameplay will most likely be too similar to Red Alert 3(and all other C+C games) and the setting and visuals will be too similar to Startcraft 2 and Dawn of War 2(and C+C 3).

I don't think most C&C fans would agree, most seem to hate generals because it's so different. I really enjoyed gens, but I don't really consider it to be C&C (if I were to release a new one, I'd go the same way as Modern Warfare 2 and drop the super-title, or whatever you want to call it). If it's called C&C 4 though, like Ihavepants said it is a tiberium game. What I want to know is will it use a completelly new engine, because RA3 uses a modified version of the SAGE engine used in C&C3, which is in turn a modification of the BFME2 SAGE...then BFME SAGE, then C&C Generals SAGE, then Renegade W3D, then all the way back to the Emperor: Battle for Dune engine.

I don't see why they'd scrap their current engine when there's nothing wrong with it and is obviously designed to be upgraded modularly.

What I'd like to see from the C&C guys:
- a Generals sequel
- a Tiberium Dawn prequel
- another Dune RTS
What we'll probably get:
- a DoW2-style, hero-focused RTS in the C&C universe
Sigh.

I didn't care for the newest C&C at all, it felt horribly cumbersome to play. CC Generals was really fun to play, I'd rather see a return to that franchise.
Either way I'm playing Starcraft 2 this year along with Diablo 3, I'm not buying/playing anytihng else for 2 years tops.

I didn't like Kane's Wrath because I couldn't play it online for the first six months I had it. I kept getting error messages about the EA serves being unavailable. If they release another, I'll be waiting to see that it works before I buy it.
