Fan recreating Kojima's Snatcher in Crysis Wars
One of Hideo Kojima's lesser-known works (to most English-speaking folk, anyway) is Snatcher, a game released to the West on the Sega-CD/Mega-CD way back in 1994. Featuring cyberpunk elements, this adventure game is fondly remembered by some, and the focal point for a new mod in Crysis Wars.
ModDB user ASH172 has been working on this project since February of last year, all by his lonesome. The mod, which looks to recreate the classic game in full, was started using Crytek's CryEngine2, SandBox2 and SDK tools, but now ASH172 is looking to transfer the project over to the Crysis Wars engine, SDK, and tools.
Snatcher enjoys quite the cult following, and in the right circles will net you a stabbing should you diss it. So, in the interest of internal organ preservation, we're totally down with this.
[Thanks, Buffel!]

Snatcher is so awesome...too bad it's like 100 a copy minimum on eBay. My SegaCD/Genesis combo set only cost me 40 last year.
Doc D @ Jul 8th 2009 2:38PM
I found it for around $30 last year. I got lucky, I suppose.
Ravnos @ Jul 8th 2009 2:41PM
Just download the ISO. Nobody is losing money on it anymore and the Sega CD has no copy protection. Or you can play it in an emulator, I personally like PicoDrive but there are plenty of options out there.
Bradwart @ Jul 8th 2009 2:50PM
I actually did. I played it in Kega, but it was having trouble burning (i've burned Silpheed and Night Trap, so I've done it before). Any suggestions?
Ravnos @ Jul 8th 2009 2:55PM
My first instinct is that there's a problem with the ISO if it won't read in a Sega CD. Are you sure you didn't download an ISO+MP3? Those are used a lot with emulators to save space, but a real Sega CD doesn't know what to do with them.

I finally got on a different site ending in -oid and I'll get a new ISO from there. Sounds like that's probably the problem. I had similar problems with Sonic CD.
Thanks

I wonder if the console versions of Crysis 2 will be able to create mods or use mods from the PC version like the PS3 version of UT3?
Storm Eagle::The Blood Edge @ Jul 8th 2009 2:46PM
This game always reminded me of Blade Runner.....
DaisukeKiriyama @ Jul 8th 2009 3:54PM
It's heavily influenced by Blade Runner actually.
Kojima said so I believe.
Girugamuk (Moptimus Slimed) @ Jul 8th 2009 2:47PM

Protodude @ Jul 8th 2009 3:10PM
I love Snatcher.
What ever happened to that 'Project S' thing? Wasn't that speculated to be some sort of Snatcher revival?
Jim @ Jul 8th 2009 3:11PM
good!
still I want to play the ENGLISH version on my console!
Old_Snake @ Jul 8th 2009 3:41PM
I've always wanted to play this or Policenauts. Been hoping that they would put a version up on PSN, Steam or XBLA or something. Not sure if it'll ever happen, though
Ravnos @ Jul 8th 2009 4:42PM
There's a fan-made translation project in progress, but it's been going since 2002. When it finally comes out, it will be a patch for the PSX version, so you can play it in Playstation emulators. I wouldn't expect it for a while, though.
Fnord @ Jul 8th 2009 4:34PM
Snatcher should be re-released for DS. That's the perfect platform for it these days.
And, I mean, really, it shipped on a single CD. I'm sure that the DS cards are at least a gig, right?
Einhanderkiller @ Jul 8th 2009 5:30PM
I think the biggest DS card is 128MB.
Bradwart @ Jul 8th 2009 6:14PM
I think there's a 2 gig card, actually. Chrono Trigger was a lot bigger than 128MB with those cutscenes.
FOXHOUND @ Jul 8th 2009 4:58PM
I not only support this, but I'll have an order of NEO KOBE PIZZA to celebrate.
Dear KONAMI,
Remake, plz! :d
