moreover, once you master the new controls, they "feel" much more realistic imo and significantly contribute the to "Feeling" of boxing. as opposed to just button mashing, which after using the sticks even sounds retarded.

not to mention it wont destroy your buttons

just a thought, what if people do not want to learn the new scheme, what if they like the button smashing?

I don't mind button smashing if that's the sort of game it's supposed to be, like an old-school fighting game. But this is different. This is what makes Fight Night Round 4. Its control scheme.

Should gamers have every option in playing a game every way they want? Should every Fight Night feature every single boxer that's been featured in the entire series? What if I really liked the graphics in the original Fight Night, should developers feel obligated to give me the option to run Fight Night 4 with original Xbox or PS2 quality graphics?

No, because game series' change. Sometimes fans like the changes and sometimes they don't. And while I don't think anyone is being whiny if they'd like to use the face buttons, I think that they need to understand that this was the direction the Fight Night games were going in. And if the developers intended for gamers to play the game with the analog sticks, it's not really putting the game at an even playing level if others can play in a different style.

Pizza Hut Sponsored version of Sugar Ray Leonard?? REALLY!?!?!

at any rate, I like the controls as they are. Reason being my hand cramps up from pushing buttons to fast, so that stick really helps me out. Now if a fighting stick worked on here then I wouldnt be opposed to using the buttons.....

Burnout Paradise is a nice exception to the bunch, but you have to admit: A large majority of EA's games have some kind of time saver pack, some kind of DLC that's an unlock code, etc.

All i'm saying is that this is strikingly unusual for them.

Thank Pizza Hut for this one.

Burnout also relies on ads to keep things free. I once hit a Gilette Fusion van and crashed into a Diesel Store.

Nevertheless, I hope this free DLC stuff is change we can believe in. http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/14/obama-takes-campaign-to-burnouts-paradise-city/

Yeah, you're right. It's just a silly href error though. They accidently tossed in two HTTPs in the url so it spits back the Page Load Error message.

http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/28/fight-night-round-4-might-get-button-mapping-via-dlc/

First is what they accidentally used, second is the actual article.

I bought the game knowing full well that it was stick only punching. I tried to learn it, didn't like it, went back to playing Tiger and Prototype. I will pick it back up when the DLC is released for the button mapping. Am I a whiny baby, nope! I am a person that does not have that much time to game anymore between life and work, so I would rather play a game that I enjoy than one that I do not. We have been able to use the buttons since FN2004, why take it out now? Did no one, in any meeting ever say, ...Gee guys we've let people use the buttons to punch for five years now, don't you think taking out that control scheme might turn away some potential customers..? I mean I am not a marketing guru by any means but it just seems that they shot themselves in the foot on this and now gamers have to wait till September for the something that could just have easily been integrated into the retail release.

What a cynical way to curb second hand sales. Hold back parts of the game and release it incrementally as free downloadble content. As this standard becomes more entrenched, consumers will hold onto their games for a few weeks longer in the hopes of some DLC. That's probably the thinking anyway. The bad has heavily outweighed the good when it comes to the introduction of hard drives.

So you think the master plan all along with the addition of the hard drive to the console was to leave out key parts of a game's infrastructure only to charge us for it later via DLC? (See, I can use big words, too :P)

But think of all the money (and progress) your saving not having to go out and buy multiple memory cards. Or having to erase the progress of a game you may one day come back to.

God damn you really are a nintendo fanboy aren't you? My gaming life has been 100% better since I got my 120gb hard drive. Quick launching from Fallout 3 to one of my many xbla games or xbox originals, then going to one of the 7 demos I downloaded earlier that day is golden. It's also nice being able to keep all my DLC at once, without forgetting what I had for each game.

should have been on there in the first place. Fan service? give me a break, EA, and activision, and everyone else should gives us programmable controls, it's not hard to accomplish either. We want choices.

Programmable controls can actually make games much worse. People will discover setups that make exploits super-easy and ruin the game for everyone else. There are definitely times when I think "Man, I wish I could jump with 'A' in this game", but I understand why they don't add that functionality.

Except in single player offline games, though. I'm looking at you Fallout 3.

@prox - i see your point, but all i'm saying is that this should've been in the game from the get-go. if they wanted to make a rigid experience, then maybe they should make movies or something.

I love it when people try and spam power hits in UFC. just consistently dodge, block and counter 'til their stamina bar is down, then take them down and submit them...

you could essentially do the same thing in FNR4, except just let them wear themselves out and then unleash a combo or 10.

This is gonna suck with the current control scheme. If they allow people to use R2 (PS3 example) and press a button to throw haymakers than that is weak. At least in round 3 if you wanted to throw a haymaker you had to use the analog stick.

Fight Night R3 controls or leave it.

"Bunch of bitching little girls. WAAAAAAA! No face buttons. Learn to play the game right."

"screw that. I had to learn the new controls. people can stop being whiny children"

Hey you two assholes, this is added back in as an option to use instead of using the right stick for uppercuts, hooks and jabs! It has always been in the other games and there was no reason to ever take it out.
You don't have to use it if you don't want to!
So what the hell is wrong with giving people choices? I mean come on you two we pay $60.00 fucking dollars for these games and then E.A. forces everyone that has always played it with the face buttons to learn a new way of playing like it or not!
So you two think it's a better idea to have the game developers say "fuck you everybody play the game the way we want you to" instead of giving people choices!
Do you guys even use any brain functions before you post?

To be fair, a developer is always entitled to redesignate buttons with a franchise. Just look at the reload buttons in Halo 3; they work much better with the bumpers than they ever did with the X button. I'm sure this was the idea behind FNR4 too: change to make the control scheme better not worse (and arguably make the online and versus components much more competetive since everyone was using the same scheme).

I say this, of course, having only played FNR3, not 4, so you can certainly tell me to blow it out my ass.
