UFC 2009 Undisputed patch incoming
If you've been dragged around the Octagon and beaten to a pulp one too many times due to glitches in UFC 2009 Undisputed's online component, you'll be pleased to hear that the developers are working on a patch. In fact, this blog post on the official site is proof of that.
There are several issues the developers are looking to resolve, and one of the more nasty ones involves a lack of repercussion for those who disconnect prematurely. These folks will receive a prize in the new patch, to the tune of some DNF and a loss on their record. Other fixes will target lag, Flash KOs, and the CAF cheat. For the full list, hit up the blog post.

I can't get into the minds of these people who play a match and quit just when they're about to lose. I suppose I could understand quitting of frustration, but quitting to prevent a -1 point or a loss? The things people value is obviously strange to me.
Its just like the spammers in Fight Night Round 4...Like wow that sounds fun just doing that t get a point.

It's a little different in this game. If someone is spamming the full mount glitch and just holds the transition block button while randomly throwing some hammer fist I will quit every single time. They need to either make the mount harder to get into, make it to where the transition blocks actually work or eliminate the full mount glitch.
I had an online record of roughly 43-11 and then I played a few days later and lost like 9 matches in a row the same exact way to people with sub .500 records. I don't mind losing or getting knocked out but when everyone fights the same way and does the same glitch I'm done. In fact, I was so pissed (not a violent person) I damn near snapped my controller in half. So, I traded the game in and picked up red faction guerilla. I loved the game but all the glitchers and spammers killed the fun of the game (as with 99% of online games.)
When someone picks a wrestler everytime, puts you in a body lock, slams you and is one transition away from a mount (in which your defending transition block doesn't always work for random reasons), mounts you, holds transition block, randomly throws punches that even if you do counter can't escape from bottom position the game is broken. Especially when EVERYONE plays the same way. Some people will say you should block them before they mount you (which is partially true) but if you do get mounted it is possible to escape in real MMA and you don't see a full mount in 100% of MMA matches.
The game is awesome but needs some major work. I'll await a patch and workd from Fenix if the issues have been fixed before buying it again otherwise I'll wait for next years iteration or EA's MMA game.

@Air McNair
There's no full mount "glitch", it works exactly as designed. It may be cheesy as hell, but it certainly isn't a glitch. If someone gets mount and holds transition block, then just wail on them. They'll be forced to block or react and then you take the opportunity to transition out. In that sense, it is extremely accurate to real-world MMA - you harass the fighter until they make a mistake and give you an opportunity to transition or get a submission.
bkmulder @ Jul 9th 2009 12:48AM
@Air McNair:
L2play? I got to lvl 50 (legitimately) before the ragequits drove me away, and I don't think I ever ran into any of the "glitches" you describe.
RIP Air McNair PSN: johnnynumber5 @ Jul 9th 2009 1:07AM
The only things I consider glitches are the following:
Full Mount transition block glitch (not the full mount itself) where you can simply hold the transition block button (in this case right on the right stick) and it's impossible to counter out of or roll out of. Even if you catch a strike from your opponent you still can't roll out of it. It is in no way anything like real life. For example, most guys who get mounted and are being hit give up their back and then most of the time get put in a rear naked choke ... if you are playing someone with even a small understanding of the glitch it's impossible to reverse this position regardless of the statistical advantage. Thats why damn near everyones pre-fight attribute is good takedowns, vicious ground and pound and good ground game.
Transition blocking in general is completely random and isn't based on the actual statistics of the fighters. Sometimes doing a perfectly timed transition block still doesn't work in the game.
I've been one of the biggest supporters of this game and the sport on this website since day 1. The standup, clinch and submissions all work as they should. However, the ground game is completely unbalanced.
The point is that I can do the mount exploit and win that way (as can anyone) because it doesn't require much skill. Also, striking from the bottom and repeated transition attempts will gas you out even if you have a fighter with a high stamina rating.
Go to the forums and you will see a huge divide on this issue. I happen to think the ground game needs some serious tweaking otherwise every match devolves into the same exact tactic. It ruined the game for me as well as many others.
Untimed transition block from the mount is a glitch plain and simple. They either need to make it harder to get full mount, correct the transition blocking when defending this position or have the referee stand them up when the guy on top only throws 10 random punches the entire round.
CB @ Jul 9th 2009 4:41AM
I guess it could be considered a glitch but I understand what Air McNair is saying.
Scenario: In full mount, do a hammerfist and quickly transition block. Even if the guy on the bottom tries to transition out during the *beginning* of the hammerfist animation, it will block.
I'm more interested in the DC fix though. Ranked is an utter waste of time when everyone just disconnects.
King JMY @ Jul 9th 2009 2:43PM
I don't have problem with the transitions. Just pick a judo grappler, hold L1 and do a full transition to standing. It works 90% of the time if you just spam it.
The problem I have is submissions. You work all this time to get someone on the ground and transition to an advantageous position. By then your stamina is worn down, and the fucker clicks a button to submit you and that's it. You can't just click a button to get to full mount, so why should you click a button to do a submission?
I think they should at least have a mini-game, or a certain button combination you have to press. The submissions are way too "absolute" in that you either can't get past the first stage of the submission, or you can't get out of the submission period. If you have less than 30% on your stamina bar and they press that one button, the match is essentially over.
warcrim3 @ Jul 20th 2009 10:21AM
I fully belive there is a serious prob. with the full mount trans. block. I was 6-0-0 and it was fine until some a-hole first got me with it he kept hanging back trying to draw me in and when I did he got my leg on my first kick right down to a side mount then right to a full mount and a few sec. later I was out cold. Things continued like that until I was 7-12-0. 12 MF'n losses and every goddamn one was tko by hammerfists in a full mount. Funny thing is when im playing a CPU in either exibition or carrer i can transition outta the ful mount but NEVER in an online match. After about 6 consecutive losses in the same bull shit way I almost hurled my controller through the screen. I have sent messages to those who do it and the response is always the same "well i still won", or "dont get taken down next time". Well im sorry but when im playing my CAF who i have spent weeks on in career mode and have maxxed out in every way and a CAF with a 67 overall rating takes me down and beats my ass and there seems to be nothing i can do to stop it once it starts and anyone can do it even if they just got the game in my book that means there is a huge problem there that needs addressed. And the patch is outlawing CAFs with "unfair" ratings online thats BS i spent a long ass time on my guy and now because they fucked up and diddnt test the game enough and someone found a glitch I have to be punnished. If this patch doesnt fix this shit im gonna sell this game and buy something thats worth playing and doesnt just piss me off.
Lonin @ Jul 8th 2009 11:11PM
The DNF update is absolutely huge. Approximately 50% of the time I win a match the other person will quit before it registers. The CAF exploit fix is great too. I'm tired of getting matched up against custom fighters with 100+ on every stat.
The lag and flash KO fixes are nice, but not a huge deal. Not mentioned in the post is that they are reducing the difficulty in submitting AI, which should make it much easier to get a few achievements.
Unfortunately, there's still a few prominent issues that need to be fixed. The point scaling by level is way too large currently. Losing or winning against someone only a few levels different than you creates huge point gains and losses. The curve really needs to be smoothed out some. The biggest issue though is the overpowered/semi-exploitable ground game. Once you get on top of someone in certain positions, all you have to do is hold the right stick in one direction and it's impossible to reverse the position. Unfortunately, most everyone uses this tactic online and it makes for frustrating matches.
Here's to hoping they continue to monitor the online activity and keep the patches coming.

"Once you get on top of someone in certain positions, all you have to do is hold the right stick in one direction and it's impossible to reverse the position. Unfortunately, most everyone uses this tactic online and it makes for frustrating matches."
Exactly what I posted above. It's even worse when they use a wrestler and body lock you then slam are are only ONE transition from a full mount. If you are on the bottom your fighter gets gassed trying to escape an inescapable position because of the transition block glitch. Even if you threw 100 punches from the bottom and they threw 5 random hammer fists they will still win the round to the judges because they were in top position.
Thats the biggest problem with the game - the ground game is completely broken (even submissions are not always accurate.) The game isn't balanced at all and the stats mean almost nothing. It doesn't matter if you use a character with a 90+ grapple defense on a character with a 50 grapple offense they will still mount you and just spam the transition block glitch from the mount.
Lonin @ Jul 8th 2009 11:54PM
I totally agree with all your points. Your mention of stamina depletion and stats brings up another good point. I don't care how tired BJ Penn or Frank Mir get, they aren't going to be submitted by Sean Sherk or Brock Lesnar. Frankly, they really need to reevaluate almost all of the ground work. Make mounts much harder to get into, don't allow permanent reversal stoppages, make stamina matter less on defending submissions, etc.
Even with all that though, I still really enjoy the game.
RIP Air McNair PSN: johnnynumber5 @ Jul 9th 2009 1:37AM
Completely agree with you. The solution is to make the mount harder to achieve and make the position escapable with proper timing. Like I said, the stats themselves don't mean much when it comes to any aspect of the game. The only stat that seems to have any kind of an impact is stamina.
You are totally right about the submissions - a fighter who isn't a submission fighter at all will be able to submit a fighter with very high submission defense simply because they are a little gassed. However, the fighter applying the submission doesn't have the effectiveness of the submission attempt limited because of fatigue. Basically, if you are in a war in tired in real life and you go for a questionable guillotine choke odds are you won't have the juice to keep that grip. So, why is it the only person in the game affected in this scenario is the one trying to escape the position? This becomes more apparent when you are talking about fighters who don't have submissions to begin with (sherk, lesnar, henderon, liddell etc) pulling off submission against high level defensive grapplers.
I agree the game shines at times and has tons of potential but it still has a ways to go. It's a great first effort and best mma game but as it sits it's only worth playing with friends.
PSN: Wild_Pegasus @ Jul 9th 2009 5:53AM
You guys are doing it all wrong, if your good enough they should never get to full mount, from my experonce they can only transition block about 6 times in one postion and you win the next one. You guys are also forgeting the reversal feature, when they try for the transition flick the right stick with the correct timing and you go from bottom postion to top.
From full mount, instead of trying to always to sweep him while hes attacking just put your block up, which provokes him into regning down punches and thats when try to transition out.
Not trying to be a jerk but there is no full mount glitch. Add me for some matches.

sounds like another game I am not going to be playing anytime soon, if ever, and I am darn glad I did not drop $ 60.00 on this one.....
coming a bit late?
a patch like this will not have any affect on sparking many new people from purchasing the game....
i really hate when games just come down to winning and losing and have little to do with just having fun and enjoying yourself....
the people that do this stuff somehow enjoy doing it over and over. I guess the higher their online records get, the bigger the bulge in their imaginary pants gets?
it obviously has nothing to do with being a better gamer, just determined to do whatever to win the game. maybe 1 day that will spawn over to real life for them also.
because somebody that wastes time like that for little to no gain in real life probably doesnt have much going on in their life.

Well said.

Thank god. I haven't played a game online after the first week because of quitters. I can't wait for this patch to come out.
Also, if would be nice if this patch included turning all navigation menus about 45 degrees clockwise.

I wish he fucking listen.
instead of red faction. he pick up this piece of s*beep*t

I admit that some douche bags online ruin it. But this game is AWESOME when you are playing with friends. One of the best games to play with a buddy. Nothing more satisfying than submitting someone and seeing the frustration on their face :)

I'm glad they're patching it and paying attention, but I gotta say, this is exactly why I don't play games online anymore.

When me and my buds play this game, all we yell the whole time is "KICK IN THE FACE"
markjames2010 @ Jul 9th 2009 4:40AM
unfortunataly this game is only fun playing against friends. The single player maintained my interest for about a week and constantly getting online games against people using the CAF exploit just made me want to hurt them. Hopefully though, as its the first game, we can look forward to a better edition next year. Although no doubt it'll be a whole load of new issues then. I love online gaming, but I know I never felt the need to hate on games so much when it didn't exist. I think I'd rather see the guru meditation screen again than some little punk cheating his way to victory.
King JMY @ Jul 9th 2009 2:52PM
The super CAF thing really pissed me off too, but there is a way around it. What I do is go to custom match and change the one setting to "UFC" instead of "UFC and CAF." You obviously can't choose your own CAF fighters, but you don't have to fight some moron who spent a week and a half making a likeness of himself with 110 submission skill.
Unfortunately this doesn't fix the quitter problem. All I do to get around that is press R1 and view their Wins/Losses. If I'm fighting someone with 159 wins and 5 losses, I'm definitely quitting that session and joining a new one.
KFelon @ Jul 9th 2009 8:48AM
I think its almost too late for a lot of people.

I have not been able to finish a game online. Everytime i play online, it kicks me off in a few seconds saying there was a connection error. This even happened when i tried to play a friend 3 times and it kept kicking me out. Then we played COD4 and i had no problem at all. I will try to see if its the disk maybe.

I got to Lv L 50 with only 6 loses and 40 win and really I win over 58 matches ! It's true that sometimes I avoid to play with dudes that have 300 victories and 5 loses because come on thats nearly imposible !! I'm waiting for the patch to see how many quitters really are in the records
