Battlefield 1943 servers being added 'around the clock'
As fun as Battlefield 1943 is, EA severely underestimated the amount of individuals who would enlist for battle in the Pacific yesterday on XBLA. If you tried to play, you likely spent a great deal of time staring at menus and found it a real pain to hook up and play with friends. According to a post made by Gordon Van Dyke on the official EA forums, developer DICE is doing all it can to increase the server count for both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions.
In the latest update, Van Dyke writes, "We have full support of EA to add as many servers as takes and then some so that everyone can play. This work has already started and servers will be added around the clock with teams working to cover this 24 hours a day so not a moment is wasted. You will be able to play this game and play it lag free!"
While the prospect of a lag-free experience is something we can support, our problem was more with our inability to find matches and join our friends' games yesterday, even when multiple slots were open. But hey, at least the price was fixed! [It appears that the 90000
pricing "glitch" was a temporary workaround to dissuade Xbox Live Silver users from purchasing the online multiplayer–only game. Currently, the game is blocked from Silver account purchasing altogether and has been designated a "Gold Exclusive."]

I could go for an online game without lag.
Smoke_me_a_Kipper @ Jul 9th 2009 10:21AM
I didn't have lag, just a few attempts to log into a game. I did notice graphic glitches however on the start of the first game. I was on the carrier and there would be vertical lines glitching up from around the edge of the ship. Later rounds I didn't see any. BTW killing some guy with a monkey wrench =WIN.

You know what, I would trade a few days for some dedicated servers instead of P2P ones. For the time being, I would give a whole month or two for dedicated servers to come intact before I would want P2P servers, like the monster that Epic Games has created with GoW multiplayer.
Omega2k3 @ Jul 9th 2009 7:28PM
I've actually only had one match with lag, RIGHT at release. After that, it's been smooth sailing, and I usually lag my ass off on most games. The big problem is starting a match with your XBL party in a squad. Haven't gotten it to work...
Also, you can't invite people to your squad who aren't on your XBL friends list, you just have to keep trying to join an open squad and hope it chooses the person you want to join.
Aside from that, it's fucking amazing.
Kill a mans jiro @ Jul 9th 2009 9:38AM
Dunno, if this is old news or not but there is a Online demo on the JAP PSN store.....
Patrick @ Jul 9th 2009 9:38AM
I will be picking this up for PSN!
mgsrocks1 @ Jul 9th 2009 10:02AM
Damn I can't decide what to do. I got $10 bucks left on my PSN account that I can put toward Battlefield 1943. Then again, Bad Company 2 is coming out and I was planning on buying that for the Xbox360. AAAAHHH there are times like these that make me wish if there were one super system (not super nintendo :D i know lame attempt at a joke).
offday @ Jul 9th 2009 10:57AM
Super Nintendo WAS a super system. Best system ever created.
Kill a mans jiro @ Jul 9th 2009 9:40AM
Only a couple more hours before EU PSN update, i cant wait lol, ill be playing this Very shortly, i just hope the servers hold up.
Also funded my wallet incase im unable to add funds on intial release.
Storm Eagle::The Blood Edge @ Jul 9th 2009 9:42AM
I downloaded it yesterday. Never got into a match so I just messed around in the tutorial getting a feel for the map and how the game controlled. The game looks gorgeous, that's for sure. I can't wait to start kamikaze-ing my plane into large groups of enemies!
Omega2k3 @ Jul 9th 2009 7:22PM
Good luck. To my chagrin, I've tried kamakazi methods to try and take out even a single guy, only to run into him and have him walk off. I have, however, hit someone with my wing. That killed him dead.
DH @ Jul 9th 2009 9:45AM
In the free version, are you kicked off after the 30 min. limit is up and you can not get back in ever, or do you just have to find a new game for another 30 min of play?
RuthlessMurder @ Jul 9th 2009 9:46AM
I don't know if any of you guys played DICE games for PC, but this shit has been going on since Battlefield 1942. Games were laggy as shit for about a year and a half until they released multiple GB size patchs to their games.
I bought this game yesterday and got to play 4 games in 5 hours. I got mad, then realized it was a DICE game.
Biggie @ Jul 9th 2009 10:28AM
And BF2 is still not fixed! Yay DICE! and yet I still buy their games... I guess I'm just stupid.
Addicted_since_yestrday @ Jul 20th 2009 7:37AM
maybe you keep buying them cuz you just can't resist the fun and addictive gameplay that the battlefield series has to offer :P
jynxycat @ Jul 9th 2009 9:47AM
So wait, this game doesn't use P2P ? And it's from EA ?
Wow.
isaac @ Jul 9th 2009 9:49AM
i know this has nothing to do with this game, but i just wanted to inform everyone of something. Today i was playing my xbox 360 and it was running fine. Then i went to the 1 v 100 channel and set a reminder for the upcoming show with prizes. my xbox started to download some 1 v 100 content which it does from time to time. But when it started doing this my 360 immediately froze. i turned it off and then back on but the second it turned on it froze. I tried a corded internet connection and it still froze as soon as it turned on. But when i unplugged LIVE all together it worked just fine. so i believe it is this 1 vs 100 download the is messing with my 360.
Any suggestions?
ChomskyKnows @ Jul 9th 2009 12:38PM
my suggestion: post in the xbox forums...
cloud858rk @ Jul 9th 2009 11:08PM
This happened to me, and then my Xbox E74'd later that day! Have fun!
Hoffer @ Jul 9th 2009 9:50AM
I picked up this game yesterday and couldn't get into a game. I guess I only tried to get into a game for like 2-3 minutes. I quickly gave up and went back to Wolverine.
kanebake @ Jul 9th 2009 9:51AM
It reminds me why we hate EA.
I also hate that they have to get additional user info form your xbxo profile, reminds me of PC games by EA and UBI that force you through a messed up registration system to play online.
The reason i went console was to avoid all that shit.
I wanted this game, i bought a 1400 points card and downloaded the demo.
I couldn't join a single game yesterday. I guess I'll sped the points on something else.
Stridery @ Jul 9th 2009 1:28PM
Trust me, its worth getting. I finally got into a server last night
and played for a few hours. It is fantastic. Did not have any lag
issues. The main problem is just getting into a server right now. I
just hope they fix the initial connection issue soon.
SaltyGary @ Jul 9th 2009 9:51AM
Tried playing it at 8pm and no dice.
This is very typical for a EA game on live. Recent C&C games for Xbox had the game issues but they actually chose not to do anything about it.
Kill a mans jiro @ Jul 9th 2009 10:25AM
lol @ Dice pun
Brandon @ Jul 9th 2009 2:46PM
You must have it on PSN. On XBL it doesn't lag because I pay $5 a month...
End User @ Jul 9th 2009 4:42PM
Erm, it wasn't even *out* on the PSN at 8pm last night.
porkfryrice @ Jul 9th 2009 9:55AM
We had plenty of connecting problems and getting a game started last night. We even started a private match (with the 16 ppl requirement) but we still couldn't get a game started. Around 11ish EST, it got better and easier to get into games. I was able to play w/ my friends and had a blast.
I hope the fix the Private Match 16 player requirement. Lower the requirement to 12 at least.
mgsrocks1 @ Jul 9th 2009 10:00AM

Smoke_me_a_Kipper @ Jul 9th 2009 10:18AM
If have BF:BC for both systems. I do find the xbox one to be a little smoother, it's generally the one I play on-line with.
Drewd420 @ Jul 9th 2009 10:19AM
EA should use some of the PSN servers to help out with the XBOX user demand. We all know there will be a LOT more xbox users trying to connect than the lonely PSN.
Billop @ Jul 9th 2009 10:20AM
Your comment would have made sense 2 years ago...now its just plain sad
Kill a mans jiro @ Jul 9th 2009 10:25AM

XBL servers don't need help from PSN servers because I pay $5 a month!
Gemini Ace @ Jul 9th 2009 10:15AM
Sounds like a great experience for $15.

really

I hope this paves the way for Valve to release Team Fortress 2 with an updated version of theIr Source engine to allow for all the pc updates.
Biggie @ Jul 9th 2009 10:33AM
Just play it on PC... the system the game was made for.
Smoke_me_a_Kipper @ Jul 9th 2009 10:16AM
Played this last night - for 30mins. Picking up the ms points card today. Even though I've played the wake Island map with BF 1942, Vietnam, BF2 before. It did have a different feel as they re-terrained it to give it more cover. Just have to work out the flying.
Storm Eagle::The Blood Edge @ Jul 9th 2009 10:47AM
I cannot, for the life of me, get a handle on the flying in this game. I was playing the tutorial (since I couldn't get in a game) and flying the plane around and I kept crashing into the water and all kinds of shit. I even accidently pressed 'B' and jumped out of the plane a virtual mile and a half from shore. It sucked.
Smoke_me_a_Kipper @ Jul 9th 2009 11:59AM
I switched to the outside rear camera and had better luck. The flight stick is a reverse one, like a real plane, pull back to go up. But I did find it stalled easy and seem to crash even with the elevators in the climb position. I think they dumbed the controls down too much.
KillaRizzay @ Jul 9th 2009 10:22AM
What pathetic losers. The game is online only!! Who do you not have enough hardware for an online only game to play. Incompetence at its finest!
Based on that alone I will not be buying this game. My buddy told me he got it lastnight for his 360 and the estimated wait time to get into a game was 20 minutes. 20 minutes!!! Ridiculous!
Kill a mans jiro @ Jul 9th 2009 10:26AM
Just about everygame has problems with online @ release and of course its due to high demand. dont be an ass..

Matt @ Jul 9th 2009 10:27AM
bought it yesterday morning, haven't been able to join a single game. I call bullshit, I want my $15 back
Storm Eagle::The Blood Edge @ Jul 9th 2009 10:49AM
Read the ToS. "There are no refunds for this item." Suck it up and deal. They'll fix it.
Chris D.(PSN: Aggie_CEO | XBL:The Aggie CEO | Steam: Aggie_CEO @ Jul 9th 2009 10:36AM
that price is HILARIOUS!!!
whats sad is at last check it was still showing up like that but according to their twitter its just doing that for silver members......
XBL: Burritoclock PSN:Herbie Hat @ Jul 9th 2009 10:39AM
I have been so frustrated over this, it IS ridiculous, It took (on average) around 20 minutes to get into a game, WITH OPEN SLOTS! It was so bad that when I needed to walk my dog I had to hand the controller to my brother so he could move my guy back and forth so there would be a possibility of playing a match or two before I went to bed.
Listen, if this were a rare issue then all of you people making excuses for DICE and EA would be right and patience would be a fine remedy, however this happens with ALMOST EVERY EA GAME!!! It's YOU people that are the problem saying "This happens with all games just calm down" it happens every time because we all just deal with it!
Yes, I know it's "only $15" or "it's only one day", or a week or whatever excuse you want to use, but please PLEASE tell me what other product you would pay money for and be unable to use for an uncertain amount of time and not be outraged about?!?!?
"Your blender doesn't work?"
"Nah dude, but this always happens with new blenders"
"So when will it work?"
"I dunno, tomorrow, next day, next week, whenever they fix it"
"But you just bought it..."
"It's cool dude, it always happens, they will get it straight and then we will have some good milkshakes.... probably"
Storm Eagle::The Blood Edge @ Jul 9th 2009 10:55AM
First of all, calm the fuck down. Second of all, this is the first time I've experienced this issue with an EA game in a LONG time. Burnout Paradise, Burnout Revenge, Bad Company, Skate, Skate 2, I NEVER had a problem playing online in any of these games (save for the people using glitches to get the upper hand but that's unavoidable). They just underestimated how many people would buy the game, that's it. There's nothing more to it. Factor in that there hasn't been any good games to come out in a decent while, I'm sure people jumped right on this for just $15. This game represents an oasis in a desert of selection right now and people just flocked to it. So like I said to the guy up the page, just chill out and remember, it's a risk you take when you download this stuff. There's no guarantee it's going to be 100% perfect, ever. And trust me, they'll fix it in no time.
grimm @ Jul 9th 2009 11:05AM
Well argued.
XBL: Burritoclock PSN:Herbie Hat @ Jul 9th 2009 11:05AM
Your an idiot and you are the problem. If we didn't allow them to make us paying beta testers then maybe they would do what they SHOULD do which is OVER ESTIMATE the server needs and then scale BACK when they aren't needed.
However they will never do that because of people like you.
Storm Eagle::The Blood Edge @ Jul 9th 2009 11:22AM
You know it costs money and manpower to add those extra servers. It costs power to run those extra servers. That's money they can't get back. What are they supposed to do? Pay the IT guys to hook up the servers and then when they don't need them anymore, take the money back?
Right. Spend some more time at in the real world, kid.
