On the surface, this is a post about Left Behind Games (you know, they make those Left Behind games?) signing a distribution deal with Jack of All Games. But really, the only interesting thing is that the author feels it necessary to name Wal-Mart specifically as the first major retailer carrying the games, even though of course it is.
No, we really just wanted to supply you with a link to the official Left Behind game site and ask that you click the "Left Behind" button and watch the subsequent video. You can thank us after you check out the "in-game film."

After it came to that bit I was convinced that the whole trailer was a joke - like a late April Fools gag.
Is this an actual game?! I never head of it before.

Well, now that my brain hurts (Literally)... I love how they brag about VERY low-end PS2 graphics as "Actual In-Game Footage" like 5 times. What, exactly, the fuck is the gameplay anyway? I mean, seriously, IS there even a GAME there? My dumbfuck ex-girlfriend used to read these stupid books. My god, america really IS full of idiots, isn't it? Sigh. Ah well, at least I can be consoled that the game sold for shit... I guess even some religious zealots know a shitty game when they see one... Or maybe it's that anyone wacked out enough to remotely be interested in anything like this just thinks all video games are evil?

Mainstream Christianity has problems with the Left Behind series, so don't you worry about it. You really need to save the word "zealot" for when something gets blown up by the way.

zealĀ·ot
NOUN:
1. One who is zealous, especially excessively so.
2. A fanatically committed person.
I don't see blowing stuff up in there as a quantifier. I think he's okay to use it.

squeehunter,
I don't think there's anything wrong with using the word zealot on people who believe that all human beings, from birth, deserve to be tortured forever in a lake of fire.

I'm assuming this is directed at me... and yet it's really directed back at the people claiming to know the end times. Claiming to know how the universe was created, to know who we should have sex with, and who is morally right and wrong, and all without a single shred of evidence. In fact a large amount of what they believe seems to be seemingly refuted. The book even contains morals which no one in their right mind would live by.
I don't claim to know the answers to the universe, but I certainly like to think that everything i will believe is based on evidence or at least a shred of possibility. Religion contains none of this.

I'm a Christian, but "Christian" games are a very big turnoff for me. You can't really turn something that's somber and meant to inspire faith and turn it into entertainment.
Rather than basing games on the Bible (only a few actual stories would make good games), they should instead create thought-provoking experiences that challenge people while still being fun.
It would also help if they didn't produce CRAP. I mean, if your game is meant to bring GOD to people, please put at least a little effort into it.

I dunno, I think lots of bible stories would make good video games. Particularly the old testament. They can make an RTS based on the exploits of Joshua where you get to massacre entire towns, women, children, and livestock included, while taking virgin women as slaves. There's really enough slaughter and massacre in there to support a whole library of games.

@BigD145:
It's not really off limits, they just come up with all kinds of crazy explanations for it. You know, Joshua HAD to slaughter all those people because they were really bad. Because, we all know an omni-benevolent god would demand the murder of women and children, and the taking of virgin women as slaves.
The mental acrobatics required to explain away the blatant immorality displayed in the Bible (old and new testaments) are quite hilarious and alarming.
If you believe in heaven and hell, you'd have to believe that Hitler would be chilling with god right now, considering how similar their personalities are.

Ironically, the books do have a ton of violence. I mean, it is the end of the world. Seriously though, there's one part where I guy hides a huge blade in his wheelchair so he can get past metal detectors. Then he slices a guy's head off with it. C'mon, tell me you wouldn't want to do that in a video game.

My favorite part was when they said that their game has the "most realistic representation of NYC ever seen in a video game before". LOLZ. Yeah, right.
Also, I know nothing of the Left Behind series. What is even going on in the "gameplay" footage and other than the horribly poor production value, why doesn't anything these people are saying match up with their lips?

Bad tv shows, movies, songs, or games that are meant to be popular just on the basis of "its religion" should be outlawed. They are merely doing more harm than good for whatever cause they are seeking to enhance.
You can reflect Christian themes, morals, ideals, etc. without making a horrible piece of entertainment.

Honestly I don't mind seeing these people do harm to their cause. I happen to think Christianity is a wicked religion in all its versions, but the fundagelical stripe given it by the Kirk Cameron crowd is the very worst. It's so explicitly anti-human (we are all damned from birth, and God might save us if he feels like it. Lovely guy, that God.)

I found this game in the bargain bin at Shopko last week and my favorite blurb on the box was:
"You and your friends can choose to play as Christian soldiers or choose to be part of the Satanic forces"
.....this game seems to be sending mixed messages...
