There is currently no release date, but Smith & Tinker states "the free download will be available soon!" Yes, YES! Now to stomp to the kitchen while making Mech walking noises and fry up some bacon!

i already have bacon but at the news of a New Mech Warrior game Ive been stomping around the house with my arms at my sides and angled at ninety degrees an making the walking sounds with my mouth.. my favorite sound is when i fire mah lazer!!!

Anyone in the Chicago area that remembers the Battletech Center at North Pier? Yeah, sitting in a full cockpit and killing people on the LAN, those were the days.

Oh MAN. Battletech was the best. They had a small setup here in CT, but I always wanted to make it out to the Battletech center. Best concept ever.

Bailers - I went there once on a daytrip from milwaukee. It was pretty awesome!! I still have the t-shirt and Loki patch i got there. I wish i would have bought more of those patches, they were cool looking, and can't find them anywhere anymore :(
Anyway, if i was filthy rich i would build one of those centers in my house! I always wondered how long that location lasted. That must have been about 15 years ago or so?

Seriously though, this is one of the few old-game sequels/prequels/reboots I'm actually excited about, which doesn't happen all that often any more. I think wipeout HD was the last one and Serious Sam HD will be the next one.

They need to revive Battletech 3025 online.
The Gamestorm online service was the best thing ever to happen to my early online gaming life, since they provided some super wicked Battletech warfare over the interwebs.
Damn you EA for closing it down after buying them out, damn you.

You can bet I'll be tipping Joystiq again when the download is made available.
The free version will include MP3.1, which will set the stage for MP4's eventual release by introducing a new autoupdate feature. All the maps for Mercs, BK, Vengeance as well as Mektek's inhouse maps and maybe some others will be included. All of the IS and Clan mechpack mechs will be included.
We're all really excited about this over at Mektek. Seriously, those forums haven't seen this kind of activity in forever.

lets see how fast we can bring down their server when all the mechwarrior fans start downloading at once.
I know I'll help with their server thrashing even if it's just to get a copy so that I don't need the cd in the drive to play it.
hopefully they'll offer a torrent too.

Because #4 had the most replay value and it's much more easily accessible to newbies.
Also probably because it's the newest one.

So you're saying that it won't have that safedisc error anymore? I had a copy long ago but I unfortunately lost both discs. I would REALLY love to get a chance at this game again. I hope all goes well with it.

Any day now... I'm actually actively monitoring their progress and have made articles about it. One of these ---- http://imbacore.blogspot.com/2009/08/update-battletech-mechwarrior-4.html --- shows links to MekTek's development updates (how many mechs added, overhaul of their MekMatch multiplayer shooter system, etc). I've also thrown in my review of a demo version of MechWarrior 4: Mercenaries for good measure. ^_^
