im glad they added it. but it looks like the art was originally designed without it, now it looks kinda tacked on.

As has already been said countless times, it was only prudent of them to do so. The only reason not to do this would be if they made the "real" Call of Duty into a truly annual franchise, and wanted to differentiate between the two.

Not surprising after the research from a couple weeks ago confirmed that they could potentially lose sales not branding it CoD.

Personally, if you don't know Modern Warfare 2 is the sequel to CALL OF DUTY: MODERN WARFARE you're a fucking retard, but then again humans are devolving into stupidity, not the opposite.

Rants aside, I can't wait for this game. :)

It looks horrible. It's like someone took a wallpaper, used a font from Call of Duty 4 and Call of Duty and put a black glow around the text part.

The original/temporary cover looks better to me.

Besides just about every Call of Duty game has the "Call of Duty" part in big ass letter across the box.

Why drop the Call of Duty name? There would be no gain in doing that. If they wanted to go in a different direction then they would regardless of the title. Many sequels (that kept the franchise name and number) are far different then their predecessors. Fallout 3, Far Cry 2, Red Steel 2, etc. etc. etc.

I'm glad they added back Call of Duty because you wouldn't want to drop an established franchise name from a game (especially when its directly related to the franchise).

Not that it matters anyway, but its a good thing to have in there.

Weird, I work at a game store and yesterday we received all the box sleeves we get to promote the game and it's the same picture but it doesn't say "Call of Duty"

Halo Wa...oh hey Call of Duty MW2

Consumers need brand recognition and that is the only reason they are keeping the CoD. Gamers will flock to it even though they know nothing about it, other than its going to involve something that deals with CoD.

Personally I have played MW for 16 days, I could care less about MW2. As someone else said I might wait to see if it reaches GOTY and then I might purchase. The mechanics are so basic and there is little to no competition, it becomes boring quickly.

Removing the Call of Duty "brand" would be a huge mistake, unless for some reason it was no longer associated or had anything to do with Call of Duty. I've always associated Call of Duty with Infinity Ward and even though I suspect they'll someday make a non CoD game, Modern Warefare is clearly a CoD game.

That is some ugly box art. i assume that is the standard and Activision to make money has a kick ass box art one for a premium special edition price with some random extras

This is like the time I saw "Guitar Hero IV" on a price tag at best buy for Guitar Hero: World Tour. I thought that was a noobish mistake on best buy's part...

I have a lot of disdain for this impromptu act.

First and foremost, the Call of Duty name has been tarnished because of Activision's attempts to milk the franchise. The series has become the Guitar Hero and Madden of the FPS genre. Secondly, Treyarch added a plethora of gimmicks in the previous Call of Duty game and the average Call of Duty gamer, who doesn't do any research into a title, will expect those gimmicks to be featured in the game. And when they're not, they'll bitch on the forums.

Finally, this can be seen as a "fuck you" to IW. It became clear after the release of MW 1 that they expressed some interest in splitting from the manacle that has become the Call of Duty series. That sentiment was exacerbated with the subsequent release of World at War. Instead of severing from Activision, IW procured an unofficial split from the Call of Duty series.

This might be a good thing in terms of sales, which is all the mercenaries at Activision care about. But in terms of keeping continuity within the community, this is a man made disaster.

Yeah, that Call of Duty logo above the Modern Warfare 2 logo, just does not seem to be in the right "place".
