Hulu blocked the PS3s Netfront User Agent ID string. Nothing to do with Sony at all.
Change Firefox's ID string to match the PS3's ( there only a few bit's of info out) and it'll block Hulu too. Unfourtnantely while you can change Firefox's User Agent ID, you can't change the PS3s ( or any other browser for that matter I think) Here be Dragon's n all that

you know, that makes quite a bit a sense. more sense than what eric lempel is spewing. hulu was taking away psn business, so sony would wisely snip it off their internet.

that makes a lot more sense than this appearant mismatch between networks. greedy bastards.

This some scary shit...if you think about it this is the beginning of the end of physical movie media. Yeah I know everyone says you always going to want to buy a movie but ask yourself this when was the last time you bought a CD. 9 out 10 people now buy there music digitally it was going to happen sooner or later.

I'm sure you're right, but I continue to buy CDs as a way to ensure longevity. MP3s are lossy and can be lost on corrupt harddrives (absent proper backup procedures). CDs can always be re-ripped.

Granted CDs are still around and still being sold but its not a stretch to say that sales for CDs have dropped quite a bit now that digital downs are becoming the defacto choice in getting music. Even look at alot of bands these days releasing there music first online then later on physical media.

When you sit down and think about that in the past 10 years how far has music distribution has gone. I would go far and say that even our little brothers and sisters growing up will never experience what its like to walk into a store and browse thru a music section and walk out with cd in our hands with the iphone/itouch you can just by your music wirelessly now lol. Its just funny when you think about it.

Problem is this start of the end of physical media is confined to US only. Rest of the world is still picking up DVD's n Blu-Rays for their movies.
So keep that in mind before you start calling the end of Physical media.
Though I suppose Hulu is meant to be expanding to UK by September.

@Trev Yeah. If you read the statement from Sony it's like they're trying to make people feel better by putting the PSStore on the same level as Netflix in terms of convenience.

I'm out for the day. See you guys tomorrow!

Netflix streaming is dead in my book when you have a PS3, the PS3 has a built in web browser. So just as easy as streaming to your computer you can achieve these results on your PS3.
1. Turn on your PS3.
2. Open web browser
3. Press start and type in tvshack.net
4. Watch movies, tv series, music videos
5. Laugh at others for actually paying to stream what is readily available FREE.
6. Help out fellow gamers by explaining this and they can see the benefits of owning a PS3.

Alpha, I'm sure that works fine on the 19" CRT in people's dorm rooms, but I can't imagine watching that on a 40+ inch HDTV. It looks like garbage even on a 24" monitor.

Every time there is an article about netflix streaming on the 360 you have someone with a PS3 (usually me) saying what you just said. Sure, if you are some sort of videophile ad audiophile you may not want to watch streamed titles but it's still a great luxury to have.

I would love for Sony to offer both services natively (i.e. without a 3rd party media server app for netflix streaming) to it's customers. I'm not worried either way because I already have an Apple TV functioning as my main media conduit and on the PS3 have access to the PSN video store, flash enabled web browser, DVD & BD discs.

If the price was right Netflix instant streaming would function as little more than a matter of convenance.

What I would really go bat shit crazy over is an integrated season pass app for the MLB, NBA & NFL that could work natively. But, I'm not holding my breath for something like that and the prices of these packages (NBA TV, MLB League Pass, NFL on DTV) are so absurd it's not attainable for the most ardent sports fan even with disposable income.

Linux on the PS3 can come in handy for running multiple applications to compliment data management and content providing platforms. However, the community for this type of modification doesn't exist because ... it isn't really necessary. The best thing about Linux on the PS3 ... VLC media player and not having to worry about file container compatibility.

Kind of went off on a tangent ... sorry bout that

Nice for people with $2000+ TVs.....now something tells me that Netflix WILL be NATIVELY on PS3 in the next year. Netflix is just working on something on their end, because as of right now you need to use some of MS Windows Media or Silverlight tech for it to even work. Once they get around that it will be on PS3

I have Netflix streaming through the Xbox 360, I like it. I use the PS3 for movies a lot (Blu-Ray) so I'd welcome it on there too. I am guessing this streamingon Bravias will only work with new/internet enabled TVs...

@ el serpiente - again not saying physical media is out starting now no its going to be a couple more years but stop and go back 10 years and remember how you listened to your music let alone how you bought it.

Well yeah in the USA our bandwidth sucks compared to other countries I think there was some report that said we (USA) are in the bottom 10 of countries in the world that offer fast internet. If you talk to people in Japan they download speeds are crazy.

Maybe someday Netflix will put some movies on its service that are worth watching, I think out of all the movies on there I have actually watched 3, and there are maybe a dozen or so that either I have already seen or might want to watch, but as far as my movie taste goes its just not quite where it needs to be just yet, so PS3 owners fret not.

SONY has released some kind of web browser for Bravia tvs in Japan, I don't see why we can't have it too. By the way, I think my Bravia W300 has ethernet and USB ports on the back, it will be wonderful to get them to work.

The weird thing is according to Barrons.com (member of Wall Street Journal) it says, "The company [meaning Netflix] has cut previous partnerships with LG Electronics, Roku, Samsung, TiVo, Vizio, and Microsoft."

Netflix cut partnerships with Microsoft? What does that mean?

I can't believe what I'm reading. What's going to happen with 360+Netflix HD1080P streaming? Does this really mean the 360 will stop all Netflix activities? This is weird...

That appears to be cut, as in "cut a deal" not "cut ties". The English language is so lame.

That being said I almost wish that Netflix would break their deal with Microsoft. I used to be in the same guild as a Netflix exec, and it was mentioned in passing that the deal to get on the 360 required an exclusivity agreement for video game systems.

But i think there is a better answer for that question.

They just don't feel like trying at all.

Vcize,

As long as it helps someone then I have done my job, even if it is some kid in college.

Not everything is perfect, Netflix sure is not, because as Chris D. has said they have a poor selection of movies to stream and they sure don't have recent hits.

I hope they bring it, but most likely sony will have to charge some kind of fee for the use. Much like getting xbox gold in order to use it on the xbox. As for Hulu, i hope they bring back the service to PS3.

It's funny, because Sony is always pushing their own video downloading service over Netflix stating that "users would rather own their content". I would just like the option, you know. I'll own some things, and use my Netflix account to 'borrow' others. When they push the Blu-Ray functionality of the PS3, where do they think all those Blu-Rays are coming from? For me, I get them from my Netflix service!!

I have been watching Hulu and netflix along with a few other things on my psn for about a year now and it only cost $40.00 one time fee to get the software. the cable company be bumming because everything i watch is on hulu and the nice thing about that is no damn commercials well you might have 30 sec spot twice during a show but anyhow go check out http://www.themediamall.com/playon well worth your money.
