Rebellion games hit GOG.com, we give them to you (just like that) [update]
Before teaming up with Sega recently for a new iteration of Aliens vs Predator, UK development house Rebellion made a handful of classic PC titles (yes, we know, including the original Aliens vs Predator). Starting today and continuing over the course of the next few weeks, GOG.com will be offering the company's titles through its site (DRM-free, XP and Vista compatible game, priced to move), starting with Ground Control (Dark Conspiracy expansion included) and Evil Genius. Lords of Magic, Empire Earth, "and more" are in the pipeline for the next few weeks.
To celebrate the release, the fine folks at Good Old Games were nice enough to hand us a few codes -- seven in all, just to keep you on your toes -- for not just the games released today but, well, anything on the site you'd like. That's right, folks, you can use the codes on anything from Elixir's Evil Genius to Ubisoft's Beyond Good & Evil to Epic's Unreal Tournament (and everything in between, in case you were wondering). All you have to do is keep your eye on the Joystiq Twitter page over the course of the day to try and win one of them. Hit the break for an exhilarating explanation of how to redeem a code.
Update: All codes have been redeemed! Thanks to everyone who participated and to GOG.com for providing us with the codes.

I like GoG, but 9 Bucks for some of these old games is a bit too much, when they cost less than 5 on Ebay.
Too bad I don't live anywhere people on Ebay ship cheaply to... >_>

do you really think most of these games would straight up run on your computer? You're paying an extra $5 for XP/Vista compatibility on a lot of these games
BigD145 @ Jul 9th 2009 4:11PM
Most of them run with just a bit of tweaking. On the off chance that they don't, I just happen to have a computer that runs win2k and DosBox.
Moptimus Slime (The Return of Princess Griffin) @ Jul 9th 2009 2:30PM
so I just have to watch the twitter feed, not make an account or any of that shit?
xplocvo @ Jul 9th 2009 2:35PM
You need to make an account and be logged in, with a game in your shopping cart. Then enter the code on the payment screen to complete your free order.
xplocvo @ Jul 9th 2009 2:33PM
Nice, I just scored the first code. I used it to get Fallout. Could have used it on a pricier game, but that's the one I wanted to play most. Thanks!
Moptimus Slime (The Return of Princess Griffin) @ Jul 9th 2009 2:37PM

Dansk @ Jul 9th 2009 2:44PM
Most of them run fine on DOSBox.
t_m @ Jul 10th 2009 4:44AM
What, even all the windows games?
(actually, it's turning out to be much more of a hassle to get old windows games to run on windows than older dos games... stupid windows).
Moptimus Slime (The Return of Princess Griffin) @ Jul 9th 2009 2:47PM
DAMN IT ALL
I was so close to getting BG&E D:
Shagittarius @ Jul 9th 2009 2:50PM
You'll never see me on twitter or facebook for ANY reason.
Lucky @ Jul 9th 2009 2:58PM
Am I getting old if those games don't sound really aged to me?
Vandell @ Jul 9th 2009 2:58PM
Hurry up with that third code. >:I
Vandell @ Jul 9th 2009 2:59PM
Stupid avatar.. why won't you update!? It's been four days now!
saregos @ Jul 9th 2009 3:00PM
Both 3 and 4 have been taken now. Not by me. :(
peokuk @ Jul 9th 2009 3:01PM

Dash @ Jul 9th 2009 3:00PM
The two are gone already. And I got none...
Einhanderkiller @ Jul 9th 2009 3:00PM
Madness. The Tweet is up for less than ten seconds and the codes are already used.
Crusty Magic @ Jul 9th 2009 3:00PM
ARGH!
Seishino @ Jul 9th 2009 3:10PM
Empire Earth was from Rebellion?

Moptimus Slime (The Return of Princess Griffin) @ Jul 9th 2009 3:03PM
I think the people posting the codes are using them themselves
Vandell @ Jul 9th 2009 3:05PM
*maniacal laughter*
HAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAH!
VANDELL STRIKES A CODE DOWN FOR EVIL GENIUS!
saregos @ Jul 9th 2009 3:05PM
whoever used them sure is taking a while to tell us that they used them...
Especially considering they're apparently very much twitch-fingered when it comes to grabbing them.
how_much_I_carrot @ Jul 9th 2009 3:05PM
YOU GUYS ARE WAY TOO FAST FOR ME
Vandell @ Jul 9th 2009 3:08PM
Copy and paste is your friend. :3
how_much_I_carrot @ Jul 9th 2009 3:18PM
well, yeah. duh. I doubt anyone here actually wrote down the codes.
Gerod Serafin @ Jul 9th 2009 3:06PM
Second two codes gone as well.
dpirtle22 @ Jul 9th 2009 3:05PM
Damn you people are fast...
Capgun @ Jul 9th 2009 3:05PM
Rebellion didnt make Evil Genius. They just obtained the rights to it after the developer went under. Was hoping they would make a sequel, but they dont seem to be looking at that right now I guess.
peokuk @ Jul 9th 2009 3:05PM
5&6 already gone too...
Moptimus Slime (The Return of Princess Griffin) @ Jul 9th 2009 3:05PM
everyone who got a code can just go to hell

dpirtle22 @ Jul 9th 2009 3:15PM

ekotval @ Jul 9th 2009 3:09PM

Heavytoka @ Jul 9th 2009 3:13PM

Cody @ Jul 9th 2009 3:14PM

saregos @ Jul 9th 2009 3:15PM

Meh, I'ma go buy myself a game to cheer myself up. :-P
Monodi @ Jul 9th 2009 3:15PM
Fucking horsehit, the last code was there for less than two seconds. I see a complot behind this.
James @ Jul 9th 2009 3:53PM
Each of those codes was gone within seconds. Way less than that for the last few ones. :-(
Trep @ Jul 9th 2009 3:16PM
Man, those codes were gone fast. I saw a tweet less than 5 seconds and when I entered it seconds later it was redeemed.
Congrats to those who win, for us others, I guess we can enjoy the 3 free games.
Moptimus Slime (The Return of Princess Griffin) @ Jul 9th 2009 3:17PM
you all better be enjoying BaSS or you can burn in hell along with everyone who entered the codes before me
Moptimus Slime (The Return of Princess Griffin) @ Jul 9th 2009 3:16PM
well shit, It looks like all I get today is Beneath a Steel Sky
oh well, I'll just pick up Broken Sword for Wii to get more of my P&C fill
devilsei @ Jul 9th 2009 3:17PM
Gay, just frackin gay.
I couldn't find the "Redeem Promo Code" anywhere on the site, checked everywhere.
Moptimus Slime (The Return of Princess Griffin) @ Jul 9th 2009 3:21PM
learn2literacy
devilsei @ Jul 9th 2009 3:56PM
What?
All I said was I couldn't find the button for it. Checked in "My Cart", nowhere to be found, even tried "tabbing" through it and nothing popped up.
Clicked the only other thing I could, "Proceed to Payment", nothing there either, did the same thing as well.
Checked their FAQs section too, didn't find anything that helps.
How about saying something that might help instead of L2.
EternalDarkWing @ Jul 9th 2009 3:18PM
I redeemed the last code for Fallout 2. Thanks.
Loki_d20 @ Jul 9th 2009 3:18PM
Someone grabbed that last one real fast. Damn you!
Dave @ Jul 9th 2009 3:27PM
I'm hating on these "just enter the code" giveaway...at least when you pick a random comment I have some kind (no matter how slim) of a chance at winning...some of us have jobs that require us to do other things than refresh a twitter page 900 bajillion times to see if we can c&p a code faster than 800 other kids with too much time on their hands.
Grr. (And yes, I AM angry. lol)
