It's probably best to read that headline in the purest technical sense. At a recent promotional event, Capcom Chief Producer Masachika Kawata was asked by games™ magazine about the possibility of a Wii version of Capcom's fantabulously successful Resident Evil 5. Kawata responded that while the Resident Evil 4 engine would work "perfectly" to recreate the gameplay of Resident Evil 5, the graphical quality of the PS3 and 360 versions couldn't be matched. To that, we say, "duh." He elaborated that a rail shooter like Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles "makes much more sense on Wii," adding that a port of Resident Evil 5 "isn't likely to happen."
That said, Kawata noted that Capcom has been "surprised" by the graphical prowess of Cavia, the studio behind Darkside Chronicles, adding that "it may actually be possible after all...." And that, Wii gamers, is that: It's possible. Of course, we all already knew that, but it's nice to hear it coming from Capcom.

Anything's possible if you dumb it down enough. No one said it was going to be a good port ;)

Gordo, you're comments contributed to this thread almost as much as that "darkside chronicles" link in the actual post.

I can't imagine why they'd want that door open. RE4Wii only sold 1.5 million copies. Why even bother?

A lot of people who had access to RE4 don't have access to RE5.

I do realize the tiny percentage of games that break a million. I can also multiply $50 by 1.5 million.
I didn't realize how important a /sarcasm tag would be for that obviously sarcastic capcom bashing comment.

Neither would I, but do you think the only thing that'd be compromised would be the visual fidelity? How about the sound? The sense of scale in the levels? The huge number of enemies? The AI quality, in both the zombies and in Sheva? The inclusion of Co-Op (neither local or online would seem very likely)?
I'd much rather have a unique, original Wii title than a game that'll end up, without a shadow of a doubt, inferior to it's other versions in every single facet (except for control, of course).
Then again, Capcom's idea of a 'unique, original Resident Evil for the Wii' is light gun shit, so I'm not sure if that's the best road either.

Yeah, i don't think the Wii version could suffer much. They just need to put soemthing, the x-factor, ya know that thing that makes things wrothable. I think its named "Effort" or something. Ask High Voltage Software, they know about it

Yeah. If you're just looking for a fun game RE5 is fine, but as a longtime fan of the series it's hard not to find it disappointing.
At least if it came to Wii it'd have solid controls.

It would be just like DeadSpace Wii. A stupid rail shooter because the Wii is a toy not a gaming computer.

A toy is a device or object used first and foremost for entertainment purposes.
Your xbox 360 is a toy
Your PS3 is a toy
The Wii is a toy
You, are an idiot.

Good. Resident Evil 5 was dreadful, and if you've played RE4 on Wii than you've played RE5 on Wii.

Let's compromise. Wii gets a port of Resident Evil 5, PS3 and 360 get HD co-op survival-action remakes of 1-4, 0, and CVX.

NO NO NO! Stop with the freakin rail shooters! RE4 on wii is one of my favorite games on the wii (and there isn't many favs). Why do they constantly think that the rail shooters make for a better experience?!? Granted, I'd rather see a whole new game ala RE4 than an attempted port of RE5 and have it end up like Dead Rising. Just....PLEASE stop the rail shooters. I liked them better when I could actually aim the gun itself with a focus on estimeated accuracy than point the wii menu changed target curser at enemies and click.

Idunno, I think the existence of DC pretty much rules out a RE2 remake. DC is capcom's way of saying "there guys, you got your RE2 fix now right? Now stop your whining."
And even if they did ever remake RE2 I bet it'd be fucking action-styled a la 4 and up, and not the awesome RE1 Cube style.
