Team 17 announces Alien Breed Evolution, teases imminent iPhone Worms
Developer Team 17 loves its Facebook page. This morning the company announced a "retro modern remake" of Alien Breed, one of its games from way back in 1991. Alien Breed Evolution is an Unreal Engine 3-powered shooter, which can be played solo or co-op later this year. A representative for Team 17 tells us that a video of the game should be released in two to three weeks.
Team 17 also teased that iPhone Worms "looms... not long now." There is currently a tentative date, but the developer is awaiting the go from Apple. Like a good Worm, though, Team 17 has everything locked, loaded and ready to fire when ready.

Kinda reminds me of that free game that you got if you pre-ordered Trine on Steam. Well that and Smash TV which is awesome.

You know what it conjurs up memories of, and what I wish they'd put a remake out of?
Jackal.
I know you were in jeeps and not on foot, but the whole top-down thing got me thinkin.

Psh. I had worms way before the iPhone ever did.

You should probably see a doctor about that.

I remember reading the cheat codes for Alien Breed at the time.

That unreal engine must have made a ton of money now, it's being used for everything.

Alien Breed - one of the best games on the Amiga ever, and a fantastic co-op game. Can't wait

Woo new Alien Breed! Was a little worried when it said Unreal Engine 3 though, I half thought they were doing a third Breed 3D game, but that screenshot is reassuring that it'll be in the Classic/Tower Assault style.
Breed 3D was ok but AB3D2 was just plain awful, and either have aged well.

This reminds me of the highly underrated and forgotten "Take No Prisoners" for the PC. Also, I am a little worried about the AB remake. Team 17 used to be one of my favourite developers of all time. They and their games are nowhere near as good as they used to be (Yeah, I am looking at you, every-single-Worms-game-since-2000). :/

you are 100% right, and after that awful larry game i wouldn´t put my expectations too high. Team 17 used to be a "good" company in the amiga times but remember that in the amiga times there weren´t a lot of companies making games when team 17 appeared. So, we could say they were successful because there weren´t a lot of options for the amiga in those times. Anyway team 17 has shown that they can only make worms games, and now with this alien breed remake i don´t really know what to expect. Oh well, as long as they now know how to use the unreal engine better than they did with their larry game, or pretend to be funny like in their larry game.

Are you kidding? There were far more game developers back when Team 17 were at their height in the early 90s on the Amiga. More than there are today, easily. Back then all you needed were two to five people to make a decent gaming company, and there were hundreds upon hundreds out there. Since those days they've all since gave up because you need teams consisting upwards of 50 people, or they've simply been bought out.
When Alien Breed was released back then, this game was huge.
Now if they could bring back Project-X my gaming past will almost be complete.

Wow. I used to play Alien Breed on my Amiga 500.
