UK music charts want to add rhythm game DLC tracking
UK's aptly named Official Chart Company has a fairly progressive idea for how to more accurately tabulate the sales success of musical artists on its Official Download Chart -- by including the sales statistics for tracks offered as downloadable content for rhythm titles such as Rock Band, Guitar Hero: World Tour and SingStar.
To compile and include this data, it would take a great deal of negotiation between the record companies, the Official Chart Company and the game's developers, but we think it's definitely worth the trouble -- if only so we could try to get Stephen and the Colberts on the UK Weekly Top 40.

There is a few of them on the Rock Band forums. Here's one of them.

There's plenty: top DLC of all time, weekly DLC charts for all consoles etc.

@Archon:
Unfortunately, that's probably the only chart we'll ever see a Jonathan Coulton song at #1.

In all honesty, I think she's there because the guys were too lazy to keep the original graphic.

I hope not. This would mean record companies pushing new singles into GH and RB DLC (backed up by monies, presumably) - giving Harmonix/Neversoft less time and resources to make actual worthwhile DLC.

I would wager that depending on how many tracks are downloaded then whatever the weekly DLC happens to be could skew the Chart in it's favour over the older stuff. I know the Chartshow guys are also looking into adding streaming services like Spotify n Last.FM to the counting too. But they both have the same issue of adding the complexity of figuring out what's UK bought/listened too.
Also I think they are just aiming for gimmicks with the chart show if they want to add game DLC to the numbers. How would they deal with Beatles Rockband? Just add nearly every Beatles songs as joint whatever in the chart?
Silly idea

This is an excellent idea. It could possibly persuade the holdout labels to release more popular music when they see the actual cash and interest it generates.

I'd like to see the uk top 20 in DLC for Singstar or Lips, it would be great, I don't know why they don't already to be honest, what a great way of making your songs even more well known. Also having some top 20 in Rockband would be awsome too, it would also give older songs more recognition.

In all honesty, I've really wondered why it's taken this long. DLC is pretty big business, and affects retail/digital sales quite a LOT. They really should consider the source in that as well.
