First, we couldn't actually play Battlefield 1943 yesterday, so please forgive the tardiness of this, the latest episode of XBLA in Brief. Now that EA's servers seem to be in order, it's time to look at the new, download-only installment of Battlefield. In short, it seems pretty damned solid. Watch the latest episode and see if it deserves your 1200 ($15).

Awsomesauce. Haven't played the game yet due to server issues but just from playing the tutorial I noticed several things:
-Improved vehicle handling over Bad Company -Can still hear your gunshots over a loud explosion??? -Even more noobified than Bad Company (didn't think that was possible)
-Most of the major annoyances from Bad Company are gone -Still more fun than Bad Company
I think it depends on where the shot/blasts come from.. Explosions should be bass-ier, where guns have a higher tone, that in my mind would 'cut through' the sound of the explosion.. hopefully too, being to close to an explosion will send you deaf for a time..
I'd be more interested if the game forced even teams.. to often, in my experience, I've seen 5v3 or worse..then putting higher ranking players mainly on one team, so the other team has no chance, then people quit, tipping the odds further..
The servers are very much connectible, you just need to try a few times. I've been able to hop on and off with relative ease since early this morning. server issues aside, this game is a great load of fun and I recommend it to any multiplayer FPS fans.
The video fails to recognize that this is somewhat of a port of the original battlefield 1943 with updated graphics and a new map. The other maps are from the old game. Not that big a deal, but worth mentioning.
Also, anyone else notice at 1:51 that the building blew up BEFORE the bomb ?
Surely you mean Battlefield 1942. And it's not a port in any way, shape, or form. The maps are similar, but much smaller. It's more similar to Bad Company than to BF: 1942.
I have to agree it's pretty reminiscent of Battlefield Bad Company, but with less weapons. Another map should be forthcoming after a certain threshold is reached, much like when Bad Company was first released.
As far as connection issues, they've been frustrating. On the first day of release is was pretty hard to get the game to start. The second day seems better, but I still occassionally have problems on the first 1-5 or so attempts. Once you're in the game, it seems pretty solid. Hopefully connecting into the game will only get better.
Great game, just finished playing with no lag, even though I live in NZ. Had alot of trouble getting onto a server, but it was worth the wait, worth the 1200 points
