Analyst: Expect a StarCraft II delay
With Activision recently pushing back Singularity to 2010, Sterne Agee analyst Arvind Bhatia thinks the same fate will befall the highly anticipated StarCraft II. The game is currently slated for a release this October. However, the game's beta suffered a delay recently, which, according to Bhatia's comments to the Wall Street Journal, casts its Q4 2009 release target in doubt.
With Modern Warfare 2 on slate for later this year, Bhatia doesn't see the delay hurting Activision's coffers. In fact, it's suggested a 2010 release would actually help company profits during what is expected to be a relatively slow year.

It seems like we keep getting told it's going to be a slow year, than all the sudden it gets overwhelmingly full.
Captain Planet @ Jul 10th 2009 2:20PM
Relax guys, if it didn't come from Pachter, it's not true.
Wiizer (Michael Pachter MUST DIE.. Professionally) @ Jul 10th 2009 2:21PM
Don't you know I will STAB YOU?
Havok @ Jul 11th 2009 11:50AM
What exactly would that do? Stabbing does not hurt Captain Planet. Only pollution and waste.
THE LITTERING!! IT BURNS!!!
rTwelve @ Jul 10th 2009 2:24PM
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Then again, during the fall I will be playing ODST and MW2 instead. [shrug]
If it shows up in Spring, well, better.
Michelobius @ Jul 11th 2009 12:20AM
I actually am not bothered by this. The fall's scheduled releases are pretty robust, and a delay would give me more time to save up for, you know, a computer that runs it.
Snowblind @ Jul 10th 2009 2:26PM
It's a Blizzard game.. surely we don't need an analsyt to tell us it's going to be delayed.
Rumor of Boz @ Jul 10th 2009 2:29PM
I have expected a delay too since its blizzard. But I was REALLY REALLY hoping to play this game this year. If it is delayed....For shame Blizzard, for shame...
Ghen @ Jul 10th 2009 2:44PM
Sounds about right. Blizzard games are never on time even when they actually make a release date. I look forward to playing Starcraft next summer.
capt_carl @ Jul 10th 2009 2:27PM

fffunfarm06 @ Jul 10th 2009 2:30PM
i think you meant Q4 2009, not 2010.
knockin' out errors since 2005.
captainprotonx @ Jul 10th 2009 2:36PM
Okay.
SecretAgentHam @ Jul 10th 2009 2:39PM
so long as it isnt in march its ok by me.
dark_inchworm (on Steam!) dark inchworm (on XBL!) @ Jul 10th 2009 3:02PM
But the original Starcraft was released in March...
SecretAgentHam @ Jul 10th 2009 3:29PM
as much as i love starcraft (and i really do) i love the god of war franchise more (small margin, but it beats it out by a tad)...
it would have to be delayed 2 weeks in purchasing...
i only get paid bi-weekly ;)
tenor77 @ Jul 10th 2009 3:53PM
Think replay value. You'll have plenty of time to save up for GOW3 while endlessly playing Starcraft.
Oh and a big duh on the delay.
Stranger @ Jul 10th 2009 2:44PM
Isn't that like saying "Expect the sky to be blue"?
This IS Blizzard we're talking about, after all.
Neuromancer @ Jul 10th 2009 2:49PM
It's so they can put in LAN play.
Ordeith @ Jul 11th 2009 2:21PM
Probably wishful thinking but THEY HAD BETTER!
Matt Heerema @ Jul 10th 2009 2:52PM
dev testing again (sorry to be annoying) awesome stuff coming.
Crusty Magic @ Jul 10th 2009 2:54PM
They can shove the delay along with their idea that LAN isn't necessary.
Jcarpio @ Jul 10th 2009 3:03PM
So what if Modern Warfare 2 is coming out for Activision.. That'll cover them on the console side.
StarCraft II is for a totally different audience.
Rumor of Boz @ Jul 10th 2009 5:36PM
I agree. Thats great MW2 is coming this fall for sure....but that does not satisfy the RTS need.
Takahashi @ Jul 10th 2009 3:05PM
Typo alert!
"...the game won't meet its Q4 2010 release target."
Don't you mean:
Q4 2009 release target.
dark_inchworm (on Steam!) dark inchworm (on XBL!) @ Jul 10th 2009 3:09PM
It's time Operation CWAL made a comeback.
WiNG [XBL&Steam: WiNGSPANTT] from lifeinagame.com @ Jul 10th 2009 3:12PM
Can I be an analyst? Here's my first analysis:
Expect all Blizzard games to be delayed.
Here's my second:
Expect all Valve games to be delayed.
Can I have money now?
Drew -- PS360: uphillbothways @ Jul 10th 2009 6:50PM
Expect all 3D Realms games to be.... oh wait.
*single tear*
CH3BURASHKA @ Jul 10th 2009 3:33PM
Huh, I didn't see this in my weekly subscription to the "Shit You Already Know" magazine.
devilsei @ Jul 10th 2009 3:34PM
You know what would suck?
If they just suddenly scrapped SC2 because they couldn't get it right, just like Ghost.
Mike @ Jul 10th 2009 4:16PM
What's this? Blizzard will be late delivering something? SAY IT AIN'T SO!
deaftly @ Jul 10th 2009 4:39PM
KOREA IS NOT AMUSED
rTwelve @ Jul 11th 2009 10:55PM
UPVOTED
Marco @ Jul 10th 2009 4:45PM
I asked and they gave it to me. Blizzard is soo generous.
Now I have time to upgrade my PC.
carg0 @ Jul 10th 2009 7:32PM
a delay from Blizzard?
wow, who didn't see that coming...
Aaron @ Jul 10th 2009 7:43PM
Even though everyone knows its inevitable, it still breaks my heart. I was even thinking about trying out WoW but then Blizzard said that pushed back Starcraft 2 a year. A delay would ruin the magic 2009 was promising me.
Stevetrop @ Jul 10th 2009 8:48PM
The game looks great but know that it is still a blizzard game this news isn't to surprising.
Havok @ Jul 11th 2009 11:55AM
Why are you all so annoyed? Sometimes delays are good. Think of any poorly developed game that could have been improved with more time. Think of something like Vista... if only...
