God of War III dev concerned about potential Aussie ban

Australia's notoriously strict ratings board, the OFLC, currently does not have a classification past MA15+ for video games. That means any game not appropriate for a 15-year-old won't be sold in stores and is de facto banned -- and that's before the national internet filter becomes fully operational. Given some of the violent antics we've seen from Kratos' high-def adventure, it might barely scrape by with an MA15+ rating. But what of the inevitable sex antics?

For once I agree with you... The Dev's should just make the game properly.. then adjust the Aussie version.. so remove blood, boobs, dismemberment.. swearing.. hell, just nerf thier version into a 3+ game if the Aussies are offended so easily

@ Mazrael: As an Aussie gamer I can tell you that we DESPERATELY CRAVE AN R18+ rating. It's because there needs to be a unanimous decision between all the Attorneys General to change those laws that there has been no change.
In short, there's only one person holding this change back. And that person is Michael Aitken (I think it's Aitken - could be Atkins.... or Hitler) who is the South Australian Attorney General. All others seem to be for the change.
He just screams "THINK OF THE CHILDREN" mindlessly. It's very annoying.

Exactly. I know Sony doesn't allow AO games on their system. Is Microshaft the same?
I guess it's an image thing. They acknowledge that adults are playing games, but anything labeled "adult" means porn, or something otherwise low-class.

Sounds like Australia wouldn't permit anything crossing the line between the ESRB ratings "T" and "M".

Manhunt was out here for about 10 months before it got banned.
We never saw Manhunt 2, but no big loss.

The Helios head ripping for one. He just doesn't rip it off clean, he slowly does it and you see it rip off in peices and when it's off you can see tendons and whatnot dangling.
It's not exactly something we see in everyday games.

I guess we just have a different opinion on what is realistic. I consider the graphics for GOW3 great, I don't consider a dude running around shooting flaming arrows and throwing guys 30 feet realistic though.
