Report: LittleBigPlanet GOTY edition comes with DLC
MCV reports that a LittleBigPlanet "Game of the Year" edition will release for the PlayStation 3 later this year. The new version will allegedly feature much of the game's (large wealth of) DLC previously released over the PlayStation Network.
This information is currently being reported by a UK site, so this may be Europe only -- which has been known to happen with situations involving big DLC bundles. We're currently checking with Sony America to see if the GOTY edition is expected to arrive in the land of the buffalo.
Update: "SCEA does not comment on rumors or speculation."

Does that include the dozens of costumes that nobody bought?
Xoonaka @ Jul 10th 2009 10:33AM
Unfortunately I bought them. My girlfriend insists.
dip @ Jul 10th 2009 10:34AM
They wouldn't keep making them if no one bought them and I guarantee that they are making a pretty penny off the ones that do. Just because you didn't buy them doesn't mean no one else did.
The Baron @ Jul 10th 2009 11:07AM
I thought there was a story that nobody was?
Hyams @ Jul 10th 2009 12:08PM
I've bought the MGS4 and Killzone 2 ones...
Really tempted to get the Heavenly Sword pack too, but I already have Nariko, and I just can't justify spending the 3 pounds or so required for Kai alone.
Maulok @ Jul 10th 2009 1:31PM
I have bought them all. I'm a shamed LBP fanboy
captainprotonx @ Jul 10th 2009 10:30AM
I'm glad I held off on the game.
Also, territory just doesn't matter when the PS3 is not territory locked.
...the death of my 360 is looking kindly on me.
Shiaoran @ Jul 10th 2009 10:33AM
It does when the DLC is and costs considerably more in Europe.
captainprotonx @ Jul 10th 2009 10:33AM
Then I just wait some more. The game isn't going anywhere.
deanb @ Jul 10th 2009 12:12PM
DLC is locked to region. Which also means if you import a Japanese game, you're gonna have to set-up a Japanese account n get a PSN card with a few hundred million bajilion cazilion yen on it.
captainprotonx @ Jul 10th 2009 12:21PM
I haven't cared much about this game since release. I doubt I'll care more with this goty edition.
So if those restrictions stick even more DLC on disc, then I'm back to Care Bear running out of care.
globones @ Jul 10th 2009 10:36AM
"smarmy comment about lbp or ps3"
Bradwart @ Jul 10th 2009 10:44AM
Don't you dare badmouth Sackboy!
Hal @ Jul 10th 2009 10:43AM
I get confused about the "Game of the Year" concept. Didn't Left 4 Dead release a game of the year?
How many game of the years are there/can there be per year? Is it by Console as well?
Mkj8722 @ Jul 10th 2009 10:49AM
The problem with the L4D GOTY was that it was ten dollars more and only added content that was free to download anyway, at least any content they add to the LBP GOTY will make it worth buying a GOTY edition.
PS36Wii Fanboy @ Jul 10th 2009 10:53AM
the GOTY edition is just an advertising ploy.
There are many GOTY editions as many different magazines/blogs give GOTY (Such as IGN, Joystiq, EGM, GI, etc)
Not only that, but they could be specifing GOTY in their genre, such as L4D is a survival/horror genre, while LBP is Platformer, which could expand the chances of a GOTY edition
Such games like CoD4, I think Fallout 3, L4D, now LBP, Obivion, have done this for 2 reasons.
1) It makes it look like it is more special
2) For all of us who don't have an online service to buy DLC(Or choose not to) can wait for the creators to just bundle the DLC to a game(Such as Fallout or CoD)
That's basically it, just advertising
Hal @ Jul 10th 2009 10:55AM
I'm not saying one is better than the other... just wondering if anyone can re-release a game and say it is "Game of the Year"
Hal @ Jul 10th 2009 10:56AM
Thanks Fanboy... I figured that... Just wanted to make sure there wasn't some type of logic I was missing out on.
PS36Wii Fanboy @ Jul 10th 2009 11:13AM
No problem, ya, I usually ask my "Hardcore fan" friends, why they got the GOTY edition when they had all the DLC anyway. Still poke fun at em XD
Woz @ Jul 10th 2009 10:48AM
Will this include the retired costumes that are no longer available such as the spacesuit?
Ashitaka @ Jul 10th 2009 11:05AM
Obviously not.
Those costumes are unique and were only available to the people who decided to support the game right from the start.
dark_inchworm (on Steam!) dark inchworm (on XBL!) @ Jul 10th 2009 11:42AM
People who could afford a PS3 from the start, you mean!
/only slightly peeved
Ashitaka @ Jul 10th 2009 3:32PM
Actually, the price of the PS3 since the release of LBP has remained the same so I fail to understand the point you're trying to make.
dark_inchworm (on Steam!) dark inchworm (on XBL!) @ Jul 12th 2009 12:44PM
I meant that I find it very sad I was deprived of DLC I could have if I owned a PS3... I cannot afford another console by any means.
Fuck you fanboys
Kdiggy @ Jul 10th 2009 10:50AM
I'll bet it will include the MGS add-on.
Liam O'Connor @ Jul 10th 2009 10:56AM
You know, LittleBigPlanet is an odd game for me. I bought into the hype in a big way and purchased it on release. Got me a neat Nariko costume for my trouble, too. However, I just couldn't get into the game at all, so I ended up trading it. Later on, however, the missus was doing a university project on Web 2.0 in gaming and chose LittleBigPlanet as a case study, so I bought it again so she could have some hands on time with it. The second time around, I really enjoyed it. Maybe it was because I was playing co-op? I even ended up buying some of the costumes. I like my Chun-Li one. :3
Still, I wish I had waited in a way (even though my reason for buying it really didn't allow me to wait). I got it for pretty cheap, but I wouldn't have minded getting the DLC included. Any word on whether this will be a Platinum release? That would be a real kick in the balls.
DinnyHoon @ Jul 10th 2009 10:59AM
Every game is better with multiplayer, but LBP **really** benefits from co-op. I still enjoy the single player to this day, but whenever I get the chance, I'll have some friends round and we'll give it a good 4-player go.
DinnyHoon @ Jul 10th 2009 10:59AM
Hurray for the reply system...
Paul @ Jul 10th 2009 12:46PM
not every game is better with multiplayer. most of my favorites are single player only
MJD @ Jul 10th 2009 11:08AM
does anyone know if mgs is coming to the european store as a ps1 classic, because i know it is on the american store and both stores got FFVII
Snowblind @ Jul 10th 2009 11:36AM
I'd recommend simply buying it from the American store anyway. No point in waiting for PAL versions that run at half speed.
uncle jesse @ Jul 10th 2009 11:09AM
I really wanted to like this game, but it just didn't click with me. Even though I'm not really a fan of the game itself, I can't deny that likeability factor of Sackboy. Sony should be making that little guy it's new mascot!
Snowblind @ Jul 10th 2009 11:36AM
I feel exactly the same, I wasn't at all impressed by the game but I still love Sackboy and even download all the costumes that go up :) (the free ones, that is).
Aurain @ Jul 10th 2009 11:40AM
The chances of it containing the MGS4 pack are very low.
Copyright doesn't allow companies to sell products that contain intellectual properties of other companies, even though Konami have allowed the pack to be created in the first place.
If it doesn't contain the MGS4 pack, you might as well forget it, It's the only DLC worth having.
Hyams @ Jul 10th 2009 11:46AM
I'm totally gonna hijack this entry to advertise my level, 'The Underworld.' (Search for 'Hyams', and you should find it easily enough.)
Anyone else wanna pimp their levels? You'll get at least one play from me.
eNrique @ Jul 10th 2009 12:07PM
Mine is called Final Fantasy VII : Crisis Core ; based on... oh...
I'll checkout yours.
and
PLEASE PLAY MY LEVEL!!!
Hyams @ Jul 10th 2009 12:00PM
Your mistake was buying into the hype. You got your expectations over inflated, so when the game arrived and it was only 'very good' and not 'ZOMFG ORGASM', you were disappointed.
It was only when you got rid of your impossibly high expectations that you were able to enjoy the game for what it is.
Or maybe it *was* the co-op. Who knows.
Hyams @ Jul 10th 2009 12:00PM
Reply fail.
Hyams @ Jul 10th 2009 12:02PM
lol, it actually won't let me reply to Liam O'Connor. Every time I try, the 'replying to Liam O'Connor [undo]' thing doesn't show up.
Ashitaka @ Jul 10th 2009 3:36PM
Hate it when that happens, I usually go crazy when I can't reply to a certain person.
DarklighterPS3 @ Jul 10th 2009 1:04PM
This is a must buy for me!!!! I love LBP and would love an LBP with more content even more.
This is the right way to do bonus content. On a disc that gets an actual release. Even if I need to buy this from the UK I will get it (does that mean my US save file won't work?)
I imported Quest for booty from NZ and I never understood why that didn't come out here. Hopefully Little Big Planet will.
Sega Uranus @ Jul 10th 2009 1:19PM
I get annoyed with these. Is it up to the developers to announce their game is the best the year it came out or what?
I understand it did win awards, but every time I hear of a GAME OF THE YEAR edition I want to punch a baby.
Andrew Yoon @ Jul 10th 2009 1:21PM
I hate Sony's official response. This isn't really a rumor. Just let us know if it's happening in the US!
Manly Mcbeefington (Mr. ESC) @ Jul 10th 2009 2:43PM
Damn it if I had wait I would have bought the InFamous Bundle and then I could have gotten LBP GOTY edition with all the DLC.Keep in mind I got my PS3 with LBP on April.
Tridrakious @ Jul 10th 2009 6:22PM
Sony is back to saying they don't comment on rumor and speculation. About damn time.
