Start killin': Battlefield 1943 'Coral Sea' challenge has started
The Battlefield 1943 community challenge to unlock the "Coral Sea" map is a go -- that is, for those who can get into a game. The bonus battlefield will unlock as soon as the individual communities on Xbox 360 and PS3 reach a body count of 43 million. We'd give you the current kill count as of this writing, but it's jumped nearly 50K in this brief time. The corpses are piling up fast!
If someone with math skills wants to track the figures over the next day or so and give us a rough estimate of when they estimate the map should unlock, we won't hold it against you. Once "Coral Sea" opens up, if should include an "Air Superiority game mode." Get killin', folks, who knows if there'll be another carrot dangled in front of us when this challenge is done. We hope there will be.
Update: As of 12:19PMEST on 7/13/09 -- Xbox 360: 30,102,476; PS3: 16,434,208 [Thanks, Doug]

IS THE GAME WORKING?!
Heavytoka @ Jul 10th 2009 3:51PM
I played for 5 hours last night with little to no problems
Storm Eagle::The Blood Edge @ Jul 10th 2009 4:01PM
I did not. I wanted to. It took me 5 attempts to get into a game and then when I got into the game finally, the level had all sorts of texture problems going on and screen tearing issues, so I had to leave. Tried to get back in after that with zero success.
Manly Mcbeefington (Mr. ESC) @ Jul 10th 2009 4:07PM
It takes a while,when I bought I spent 10 minutes waiting for a match,now you can enter a game every 3 to 5 minutes,
XGM @ Jul 10th 2009 4:20PM
Had no problems on the PS3 since its been out.
phinnvr6 @ Jul 10th 2009 4:43PM
It works perfectly on PS3 at least, I played it for about 4 hours total so far. A lot of fun, not as much polish as Bad Company though :-/ Totally worth the $15 for a change of pace.
XBL: Burritoclock PSN:Herbie Hat @ Jul 10th 2009 4:48PM
It looks like both will make it in less than 20 days, which is amazing considering how many people can't play...
iluvmyzune @ Jul 10th 2009 5:25PM
i just got a ps3 and need sum ps3 friends my psn id is

Von Dozier @ Jul 10th 2009 5:27PM
It works for 360 now. First day it was out it was horrible, second was a little better, and today there are absolutely no problems, atleast on my end.
kentuckyfried @ Jul 12th 2009 5:54AM
It worked for about three straight rounds before I was kicked off and unable to login thereafter (this was probably about 1230 am). So I went back to playing Fallout 3 for the rest of the evening.
shueknight @ Jul 10th 2009 3:51PM
MUST KILL ALL!
Heavytoka @ Jul 10th 2009 3:51PM
Besides the slight lag (which they are fixing) this game is a lot of fun and well worth 15 bucks
Lunastra78 (PSN: lunastra78) @ Jul 10th 2009 5:04PM
I'm getting all nostalgic playing this game.
It's kinda like making love to an ex-girlfriend who's gotten slightly better at putting on make-up and whose breast surgery turned out very nice indeed. And of course she promises to show you some new tricks if you can pleasure her 43 million times. :p
Cr4sh Dummy @ Jul 10th 2009 5:09PM
I concur, I will also add that this game is better than most retail games.
Dave @ Jul 10th 2009 3:51PM
Now, if only I can not get disconnected from every time I try to play...
I spent 1200 points on it, but I have yet to actually get passed the menu screen
Storm Eagle::The Blood Edge @ Jul 10th 2009 3:55PM
So me, some friends, and a bunch of random players tried to set up a private match (which requires 16 players before it'll let you start??) last night and after 20 minutes of trying to get people to stay we finally filled the room -- only to have EVERYONE get booted when the host started the game. And it wasn't a normal boot, the player grid just disappeared and left the rest of the PM interface on screen leaving you to ponder as to if the game was actually DOING anything. It wasn't and the effort was completely wasted.
VeHeMeNcE @ Jul 10th 2009 4:03PM
Same thing happened to me last night, Storm. I was pretty pissed. I wonder if I was in the same party as you were.
Gaymer @ Jul 10th 2009 4:03PM
I feel your pain.
Manly Mcbeefington (Mr. ESC) @ Jul 10th 2009 4:26PM
The problems I'm having is that the hit detection is somehow funny I have killed people by firing from the other side of the map blindly and when I aim for the head (Even the animation of the bullet hitting the head is shown) nothing happens even if I shot the enemy 3 times.Another time I missed a shot and I even got a head shot.
Also the game freezes from time to time.
Sometimes the game disconnects but is rare for me and it take something like 3 to 5 minutes to start a match.
AirIntake @ Jul 10th 2009 4:27PM
I've only managed to play one game, when I was the only one in my party. Every time I tried to join with my 2 friends, we couldn't find a game or would lose the squad list like Storm said. That really sucks, as my friends have spend about 8 hours now trying to play a game together. Oh well, if it's this busy I guess the 360 will win hands down.
phinnvr6 @ Jul 10th 2009 4:45PM
That's cause you have the 360 version, I did all that on PS3 with my friends and it works flawlessly. I'm sure that'll all be fixed soon anyway, Dice is quick with fixes usually.
AirIntake @ Jul 10th 2009 4:48PM
There's nothing broken in the 360 version that needs fixing, they just need more 360 servers because more people seem to be playing the 360 version, based on the kills.
deanb @ Jul 10th 2009 7:10PM
@airintake
Well from the kill rate you could also assume that 360 players die alot easier than PS3 guys.
Minecart @ Jul 10th 2009 8:00PM
@deanb
Or that PS3 players are much less efficient at killing targets ;)
deanb @ Jul 10th 2009 9:42PM
Exactly. Though PS3 owner's may just be winning through flag captures.
And where did my "Lies, Damned Lies n Statistics " quote go? That owuld of made my point much more clearer
Brandon @ Jul 10th 2009 11:33PM
Or maybe it's because the 360 version came out before the PS3 version?
David @ Jul 10th 2009 3:52PM
Roughly off the rate of the first hour I figured 15 days, but it's moving a lot faster now
waves @ Jul 10th 2009 3:55PM
I love this game so far. It sucks when you have to try a few times to get a match, but it has rarely taken more than a minute this afternoon. I like that the classes have been simplified and the lack of unlockable weapons. I'm also really excited to have a fun online multiplayer game on the hard drive. Now I can switch back and forth between BF1943 and Halo 3 with my friends without having to stop and swap discs.
Manly Mcbeefington (Mr. ESC) @ Jul 10th 2009 4:18PM
Yep it battlefield core but the game is stil the same.
Tanks are made of paper mache.
Air vehicles are as easy to pilot as a cube kite during a hurricane
People rather run on foot than using any of the 15 cars on the map
Snipers still rule the game (Strangely I get head shots even when the bullet didn't even hit the target and sometimes when the bullet hits the head the target doesn't notice,is either lag or a lousy hit detection)
And machine guns are lonely for all the damn snipers but is less frsutrating now that they eliminated the dog tags (Well for you,I actually pwned at Battlefield)
The only difference is that the Assault class is more fun to play,is still useless though.
Lunastra78 (PSN: lunastra78) @ Jul 10th 2009 4:57PM
Getting flags and keeping them wins the game, snipers are just a minor annoyance. I just tried the demo now and i got twice as many kills and flag points as 2nd place guy, playing as infantry and mostly using tanks. ;)
But yeah i agree on the planes being a waste of time without a mouse and keyboard to control them.
AirIntake @ Jul 10th 2009 5:08PM
A mouse and keyboard is the best way to control a plane now? What happened to joysticks, like in real planes?
Hydrophobicfish @ Jul 10th 2009 4:01PM
I'm helping to do my part... on the playstation.
You're welcome, Xbox guys! :D
Gaymer @ Jul 10th 2009 4:03PM
well maybe if the game would work.... i would try it
(btw those the game work now?)
itbekevin2010 @ Jul 10th 2009 4:03PM
think about this though, the 360 one came out 2 days before the ps3 version
so of course the 360 will win
Nateynate @ Jul 10th 2009 4:08PM
No the challenge just started today
dreadnought1 @ Jul 10th 2009 4:04PM
I played last night on the PSN for about 3 or 4 hours with zero lag, no disconnects, no unable to join errors, and geting into games in about 10 seconds, But hey you get what you pay for right? ............wait.
j.howlett @ Jul 10th 2009 4:52PM
over there, do you see it? what you did.
DrunkRaba @ Jul 11th 2009 2:03AM
same here, zero problems since came out on the ps3, lucky us
prodigy69 @ Jul 10th 2009 4:07PM
I've had no problems at all :)
good fun
artyhan @ Jul 10th 2009 4:08PM

Manly Mcbeefington (Mr. ESC) @ Jul 10th 2009 4:09PM
The achievements/Trophies are increbibly easy,I just need a good squad for the last achievement I need (Other than service I,II of course)
Sadly I'm at work.
SaltyGary @ Jul 10th 2009 4:11PM
Couldn't get on the first night, played a couple games without an issue last night. Game of the summer.
Lennoko @ Jul 10th 2009 4:16PM
I know im going to get downvoted for this, but I hope to god the PC port isnt a smoldreing piece of dog shit. If there gonna make us wait, it better be damned good.(with plenty of mod support)
Manly Mcbeefington (Mr. ESC) @ Jul 10th 2009 4:20PM
Have you seen Batlefield Heroes? Well stick to that. This is battlefield light, if you have bad company you don't have to play it.
In fact what the hell happened to Bad Company 2 and Battlefield 3?
Lennoko @ Jul 10th 2009 4:34PM
Ug, heroes. I played that once in beta, never went back.
Manly Mcbeefington (Mr. ESC) @ Jul 10th 2009 4:44PM
Is that bad? I haven't play it,it looked fine to me.
Lennoko @ Jul 10th 2009 4:52PM
Well, to be honest its not bad for a "free" game, actually its quite good. Its just not the same battlefield to me though. No one works together,at all. I mean i know the same could be felt of in BF2, but in this game, theres really no need for team work. Along with the "super powers" or what ever the hell they called them it just wasnt my cup o' tea.
Frankie Godskin @ Jul 10th 2009 4:21PM
Assuming the 360 users continue to average 10,000 kills per hour (and that means the game's fanbase can never die off), that would be 4,300 hours to get 43,000,000 kills. 4,300 hours = 179.166 days. We're looking at the 360 community unlocking this in January of 2010.
