Steam weekend sale offers half-price GRID
If you love driving, but have been unable to do so since the man stripped you of your license following your vehicular collision with that nursing home (it came out of nowhere!), you may be able to satiate that desire by picking up GRID on Steam this weekend for the discounted price of $14.99. We're no mathematicians, but we're fairly certain that's about a 50 percent decrease from the usual price of $29.99.
If you've got an appropriately beefy computer, we suggest picking it up. It's really fun, terribly addictive and -- best of all -- doesn't feature any pesky ambulatory architecture.

Awesome game, highly recommend it to anyone who likes racing games.
Tiptup300 @ Jul 10th 2009 3:25PM
I would, I really would, but I just got the racing wheel for the 360 and I would much rather have it on 360. :(
Neuromancer @ Jul 10th 2009 3:59PM
$30 for that game is still worth it

Spartan @ Jul 10th 2009 4:33PM
tiptup, i recentlyt got the racing wheel.
with grid it's not that good. only tried it twice but the response is wayyy too sensitive.
(i probably need much more practice)
however the wheel works great with forza and burnout
Tyler @ Jul 10th 2009 8:11PM
Dirt is the way to go with the wheel! You'll be amazed at how much that wheel slings your arms around!

Man...Steam needs a system where they have these kinds of awesome deals for console games as well. I'd LOVE to get GRID for $15 bucks.

That would be sweet. I'd probably get addicted and start buying way to many games though. I just found out you can get XBLA game codes on ebay and bought Ticket to Ride for $6 and Castle Crashers for $8.49.

I downloaded grid from GameTap before they screwed over GameTap (another story) and while the game was very pretty, load times on my high end PC were like 2 minutes or more per track. Made the game downright unplayable for me. (Funny, as I remember playing test drive on the Commodore 64 and taking a LOT longer than that to load but hey)
Does anyone know if the horribly long load times is a PC thing or was it a GameTap thing? I played through the whole game on the 360 and I know the load times on that were pretty good, even before the NXE let me copy the game to HDD. But I'd rather play on PC as the graphics are so much better.

I bought it for a full £20 a while ago on Steam, and can't remember any severe load times. My processor and RAM are also not what you'd call beefy.
As far as I remember, this game runs great considering how good it looks (a feature of a lot of racing games), but personally I prefer the free Trackmania game also on Steam (got the full version for £5 off amazon just yesterday).
Einhanderkiller @ Jul 10th 2009 7:52PM
Probably a GameTap thing. The load times are pretty snappy on my computer.
zodduska @ Jul 11th 2009 4:14PM
no load times here on a Velociraptor
Dee @ Jul 14th 2009 8:30PM
Mm I doubt you have a high end PC. I'm running vista on P4 quadcore 3.2 GH, 8GB ram and 9800GT and load time for me per track is around 8 - 12 seconds.
Maybe your cpu is bogged down with spyware / not enough space on HD etc.

If you like racing games and you haven't played GRID, shame on you.
Naota @ Jul 10th 2009 4:05PM
Blast, I can't decide whether or not to snag this.
I love GRID, but I don't own it yet, I was planning on snagging it for 360 and picking up a wheel before Forza 3 comes out, but still...
The Baron @ Jul 11th 2009 11:57AM
GRID is actually renowned for not controlling very well with wheels. That may just be the PC version though.
Nerdy Desi @ Jul 10th 2009 4:11PM
STEAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1111!!
wildhamster @ Jul 10th 2009 6:15PM
This game is awesome, i bought it the day it came out for the 360, sold my 360 and bought another copy for my new compy. Drift mode is my favorite.
If you are looking for a simulator that doesnt take itself too seriously, get it its worth it. There's probably at least 15 or 20 racetypes to meet anyones requirements.

Tweat the wheel settings in the options menu. It took me about 30 mins to get it right where i wanted it but it made the game 10x more enjoyable. I hated hitting bumps because it felt so exaggerated, thankfuly they allow you to adjust that as well.
Dansk @ Jul 10th 2009 8:19PM
Is it worth it for people with no Wheel?
zodduska @ Jul 11th 2009 4:14PM
It's fine with my wireless 360 controller.
t_m @ Jul 11th 2009 12:55AM
@joystiq:
Can you guys make a regular feature rounding up all the weekend deals from Steam, Impulse, Gamersgate, etc....
I know i'm beng lazy and i could just look myself, but i keep missing one that i want, and then finding out about it when it's too late.
It'd seem like a good idea for a feature, kinda like the weekly rockband/gametap/arcade/wiiware features...
zodduska @ Jul 11th 2009 4:11PM
Agreed, thanks for the heads up Griffin, the game seems great so far.
