In what might be the most shocking turn of events in recent history, PopCap Games' Garth Chouteau recently told Kombo.com that the company is looking to bring its most recent addictive substance, Plants vs Zombies, to more platforms. The game is currently available only on PC and Mac. In other news, it turns out that PopCap enjoys making giant piles of cash. Garth noted that PopCap spent a great deal of time making Peggle work on consoles (the XBLA version, specifically) and would take the same approach with Plants vs Zombies, though he didn't specify which consoles the game is destined to see.
He did, however, say that it's unlikely to appear on mobile phones. Well, regular mobile phones, actually: An iPhone version is a possibility. We have to say that we're both excited and a little terrified at the prospect of playing Plants vs Zombies anywhere. It's done enough damage to our work ethic already.

I just beat this game, I love it, although I don't see how it would work without a mouse...touch screen would work though.

I think it'll go to the Wii.
How would sun collection work on the 360 and PS3?

There are plenty of games non-mouse, non-wiimote games can't play. At least not well.
Not having 100+ buttons rules out many sims (such as TIE Fighter, Flight Simulator), and not having a pointing device rules out anything that requires rapid directional changes and input.

Myst n Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy off the top of my head.
Most RTS's fail miserably too, Bejeweled wouldn't work properly either.
Though PS3 supports m/kb, so I suppose that should be fine.

Please come to the DS... if only both screens could be touch it would be awesome to turn it sideways and play that as the yard.

co-op? how the hell would co-op work?
This whole "everything must have co-op/MP or it's worthless" craze is getting on my nerves.

Most tower defense games could include co-op as an option pretty easily. It works well within the genre, in the same way that co-op/MP works well in most FPS games. It might not work in the main campaign in PvZ, but I could easily imagine several modes where it would work well. The easiest mode would simply be that you both build and collect at the same time. It might require a larger field to remain challenging, but I would be fine with that.
My favorite tower defense game is PixelJunk Monsters, mostly because it did include co-op.
Also, I did buy and finish PvZ and loved it for what it is. However, to get me to buy it a second time, I would like to see other features implemented.

Co-op could work the same way as every WarCraft III TD map.

If this comes out on WiiWare I'll buy it despite already owning the PC version; probably the best game of 2009 thus far.

I'm only being tenuously on topic here:
At the end of the Steam demo (which I think is time constrained to two hours) I immediately went through the motions to purchase it.
After entering the required payment details, the game started back up again and I was sucked in for the next five hours or so. Only to then find that my transaction hadn't fully gone through! No payment was taken.
I eventually ran the purchase through successfully but I suspect if I had never closed the window PvsZ was running in, I would never have needed to pay for it.
Anyone else get that?

Can anyone tell me whether this will see a retail release or not? I'd like to know that before investing in a copy from Steam.
