WRUP: Wishin' and hopin' for a Battlefield 1943 server edition
This one goes out to you, Battlefield 1943 servers...
Wishin', and hopin', and thinkin', and prayin',
Planning and dreamin' each night of its charms.
That won't get you into a game.
So if you're looking for fun you can share
All you gotta to is hold him, and kiss him, and love him,
And show BF1943 that you care.
What's everyone playing this weekend?
- Alexander Sliwinski (@XanderSliwinski): Battlefield 1943 when I can actually get into a game. Hopefully EA has the whole server mess cleared by this evening. I also got Red Faction: Guerrilla from GameFly and have heard really good things. Looking forward to trying it.
- Andrew Yoon (@scxzor): <-- NEW TWITTER I'll definitely check out some Battlefield this weekend, as everyone tells me it's the shit. Hopefully, the servers work. I'll also namedrop a game that I'm hopeless addicted to: Comet Crash. This game got no buzz, which is a shame, because it's absolutely terrific. Check it out on PSN.
- Ben Gilbert (@BigBossBgilbert): Worms 2 is ravaging my time like a thief in the night. A little more Overlordin' (the first!) and -- maybe, just maybe -- I'll go back through Doom Resurrection. Maybe.
- Christopher Grant (@ChrisGrant): ...
- David Hinkle (@DaveHinkle): I sent Bionic Commando back (I gave it a chance!) and will probably enjoy some BlazBlue, Skate 2, Burnout Paradise and some Bit.Trip: Core this weekend. I know better than to try and play Battlefield 1943, so I'll probably also sprinkle some Gears of War 2 in. I'm so close to level 50!
- Dustin Burg (@SuperDunner): On a mission to beat Hinkle to a level 50 rank in Gears of War 2.
- Griffin McElroy (@griffinmcelroy): I'm going to continue to devour Jeanne D'Arc, though I'm living in fear of its somewhat inevitable ending. (Toooastyyy!)
- James Ransom-Wiley: Can I get a Battlefield '43 server? Please!
- Jem Alexander (@Yembles): I will beat Bionic Commando on Commando difficulty, even if it kills me. When that gets too frustrating I'll go back to Rock Band Unplugged and think about which game from my PS2 backlog to play through first. All eyes on Ico and Shadow of the Colossus.
- JC Fletcher (@jcfletcher): ...
- Justin McElroy (@JustinMcElroy): ...
- Kevin Kelly (@gadgetguy): I'm playing Battlefield: 1943 ... when the servers let me. And although I've finished Prototype, I'm going through and mopping up the city in an effort to gain those last few powers. Also, Comic-Con is coming up, so I'm playing the "Balance The Massive Schedule" game.
- Ludwig Kietzmann (@LudwigK): I'll be waiting for a free Battlefield 1943 server, I guess.
- Majed Athab: Would you kindly play BioShock again.
- Randy Nelson (@DangerPenguin): I'm looking forward to playing some Battlefield 1943 multiplayer with Team Joystiq. This single-player minigame sucks; I keep pressing the A button to "quick join," but I never win.
- Richard Mitchell (@SenseiRAM): Bionic Commando, beaten. The Conduit, destroyed (and disappointing). Now it's time for Sam & Max Save the World, more Oblivion, maaaybe my first journey into Fallout 3 and, for the very first time, The Legend of Zelda: Minish Cap. I hear it's pretty good.
- Xav de Matos (@Xav): Battlefield: 1943, hopefully with some of the 'Stiq crew... if it works properly.
- Justin Glow (@justinglow): (Leasing a piece of his brain as a BF 1943 server.)

Even I found that reference to be a little on the obsure.
Any hoo, I'm right now trying to complete No More Heroes on Bitter. VERY painful process.
Levi (God Hand Defense Force) @ Jul 11th 2009 5:09AM
If this were a perfect world, Dusty Springfield would never be obscure.
Wince @ Jul 18th 2009 8:36PM
Attempting to play BF 1943... But I'm sure I'll end up playing Far Cry 2 this weekend.
Oh, and Death Cab show on Sunday.
Latin_Trident @ Jul 10th 2009 7:58PM
I'm playing Mass Effect and Castle Crashers. Maybe some Big Surf on Burnout too.
Markez @ Jul 10th 2009 11:07PM
I've gotten back into CC big time as of late. Some guy added me to party chat out of the blue and wanted to 'boost' on All you can Quaff to get the cheevo, pretty lame :P
waves @ Jul 10th 2009 8:00PM
Battlefield 1943 and lots of it. Just waiting for my friends to get it so we can have a squad.
incubeezer @ Jul 10th 2009 9:54PM
Ever notice how close to no one uses their microphone in Battlefield 1943? I can hardly find an open squad either. Too many Lone Wolves out there?
Omega2k3 @ Jul 11th 2009 8:24PM
It's a throwback to the original. Mic chat wasn't part of the game, and nobody ever spoke, except in vent or (lol) teamspeak to friends. Hardly anyone even typed.
They're just trying to recreate the experience, man.
Hoffer @ Jul 10th 2009 8:00PM
I have not been able to get into a 1943 match yet. I'm not trying for like an hour straight or anything. Everytime I have tried, I get the "game is not available" message.
FNG @ Jul 10th 2009 10:29PM
ironic that one of the few games with dedicated servers is performing the worst. If this was P2P like most other games would we be having all these issues?
whylekat @ Jul 11th 2009 4:49AM
@McBeefington
what's the Sucker Punch item tracker thing on inFamous? Anything like the Spider-Man web of shadows? In that game after you collect like 500 icons it puts the rest on your mini map.
FNG @ Jul 11th 2009 10:08AM
where will this post end up?
Longhorn of Myon [PSN: MariusElijah] @ Jul 10th 2009 8:02PM
well im going to finish getting platinum on inFAMOUS, play some KZ2 and wait for GameSpot to deliver the overrated GTA IV (my first multiplatform game on the PS3)
Sly @ Jul 10th 2009 8:24PM
"(my first multiplatform game on the PS3)"
tell me you're not serious...
Tyler @ Jul 10th 2009 8:44PM
I'm the same way.I'm scared of the underdeveloped ports. Exclusives only for me!
Manly Mcbeefington (Mr. ESC) @ Jul 10th 2009 8:59PM
"overrated GTA IV "
I hate you so much ¬_¬
C'mon the story was great, some people didn't like it because you couldn't do all the stupid stunts you can pull in San andreas or Saints Row but it was great. It was the first GTA I feel treated the mature audience with a bit of repect (And then we got to the digital dongs).
Now that I guess we can agree InFamous is awesome I already got Platinum,it was easy.I really liked how Sucker Punch made item hunting fun,in fact every sandbox game should have a way to track collectables from now on.
Sly @ Jul 10th 2009 9:02PM
which brings me to my second point, how can you call it overrated if you haven't played it yet?
Longhorn of Myon [PSN: MariusElijah] @ Jul 10th 2009 9:57PM
@Sly
I am being serious, as for the overrated part, from the general consensus it is, but I will try it for myself when it comes to me
Mana37 @ Jul 11th 2009 1:18AM
YESSS!!
GTA4 is undeserving of those 10's & 9's!!
Vice CIty was the best GTA!
Rampages were crazier and extreme!!
tmacairjordan87 @ Jul 11th 2009 11:21AM
Well I don't play GTA for the story, and I don't know very many that do. We play it to do all the stupid crazy shit that was in San Andreas. Rockstar's downfall will be them taking their games too seriously.
ignfan69 @ Jul 10th 2009 8:02PM
After waiting 2 months I finally got wolverine from gamefly. What a service!
Hydrophobicfish @ Jul 10th 2009 8:05PM
I agree with you, Andrew Yoon. Comet Crash was a really great game that I never heard any buzz about. It got great scores, but that seems to be it, which is a tragedy!
So, everyone, go buy Comet Crash.
j.howlett @ Jul 10th 2009 10:34PM
if only there was a place for yoon to get the word out to ps3 owners. i checked your twitter yoon, finally got that share trophy.
Foetoid @ Jul 10th 2009 8:06PM
I am going to finally finish Bioshock and maybe play some Majoras Mask and Tales of Symphonia with a sprinkling of GH: Metallica.
CB @ Jul 10th 2009 8:07PM
Battlefield 1943 but haven't been able to jump into a match when you form a squad from the main menu.
nick @ Jul 10th 2009 8:11PM
Battlefield is getting better. The first day was completely frustraing-- taking half a day before being able to play, the second day was tedious-- sometimes it worked sometimes it didn't, and today I'm able to get a match after 1-2 attempts.
Saria the Cat @ Jul 10th 2009 8:16PM
Dangerously close to purchasing a new board game. Small World is looking tempting!
WREturns @ Jul 11th 2009 12:38AM
Don't do it, Saria, stay digital!
Saria the Cat @ Jul 11th 2009 1:02AM
@WREturns: You're a little late. I'm already the proud owner of many nerdy European board games!
Casey @ Jul 11th 2009 3:22AM
What's Small World? Is it up there with Catan and Carcassone. Just getting into serious Board games . . .
Saria the Cat @ Jul 11th 2009 2:15PM
@Casey: If you're interested in getting into board games, I'd check out boardgamegeek.com if you haven't already. As for Small World, it's a territory grab game and fantasy-themed with different races like ogres and dwarves. Supposed to be good and tactical but not too rule- heavy.
Aaron @ Jul 10th 2009 8:20PM
Catching up on Battlefield: Bad Company and Nazi Zombies tonight. Tomorrow is my friends graduation party, so no gaming there, unless you count getting buzzed and talking to complete strangers a game. And hopefully I'll be playing Left 4 Dead and unlocking more of the hard achievements on Sunday.
Sly @ Jul 10th 2009 8:23PM
playing with the members and leaders of a clan i'm trying to get into in CoD:WaW and hunting monsters in monster hunter freedom unite for me. god, that clan is hard to get into. you need a 1.70+ K/D ratio and you have to beat one of the five leaders to get in. if you lose to all five, you can't try out again. i beat one leader, but it was a warmup game so it didn't count. i lost the second time. ugh...
Sly @ Jul 10th 2009 9:07PM
also, there's another problem holding me back from joining the clan. my connection's been freaking out lately, so my K/D has been fluctuating like crazy. it's been floating in between 1.68 and 1.83 because of my relatively new account. it's ridiculous.
Sly @ Jul 10th 2009 10:46PM
oh yeah, and i'm heading to ATL on sunday to check out a house i'll be helping to design. it's pretty easy work, and i get 5% of the profits just for standing around saying "yes" or "no". and 5% may not seem like much, but when you get 5% of 24,000 (about the average for full house redesign), you see how good of a job it is.
InFaMoUs1- @ Jul 10th 2009 8:28PM
BF1943 Works fine on PSN
NukeAssault @ Jul 10th 2009 8:30PM
BlazBlue, COD4/W@W and if i get the points Bf1943. Oh and maybe some BOXLIFE.
NukeAssault @ Jul 10th 2009 8:30PM
Forgot to add Project Diva. =D
Moptimus Slime (The Return of Princess Griffin) @ Jul 10th 2009 8:30PM
Im going to be playing "9 1/2 hour drive down to Kentucky" and "Spending a week in a cabin by a lake"
maybe if Im lucky, a few games of Civ Rev and continue my journey through TWEWY (I MUST GET ALL PINS DAMMIT)
Casey @ Jul 10th 2009 8:31PM
Peggle - Just can't quit it
GRID
Battlefield 1943 Trial
MGS4 - Really want to finish it
Halo Wars - The First campaign at least
Halo 3 - Finally got a huge crew to commit to Sat. Afternoon.
Ratchet and Clank PS3 - Just got in the mail. Will try and get through first level.
Soo many games soo little time.
Wardo @ Jul 10th 2009 8:40PM
Enjoy Ratchet and Clank, I found it to be one of the funnest on the PS3.
Sly @ Jul 10th 2009 9:04PM
yeah, it's really fun. they're are a few minor graphical glitches if your ps3 is set to 1080p, but besides that, it's a fantastic game.
mahouneko @ Jul 11th 2009 1:31AM
Which Ratchet and Clank? Future Tools or Crack in Time?
Casey @ Jul 11th 2009 3:15AM
Tools of Destruction. I don't think a Crack in Time is out yet. Wanna beat this one before that one. Yea I'm excited I played a demo in Best Buy and the game is just plain gorgeous. I think it still holds up as one of the best looking games out there period, even though it was released relatively early in the current console cycle.
waynski1457 @ Jul 10th 2009 8:36PM
Well Gamefly shows me again by skipping the first 10 games on my queue and sent me Tomb Raider: Legend. I guess I'm to blame for putting a game I beat a year ago on Gametap on there, but I did enjoy it and I want to eventually beat all three TR games on 360.
Also, I'm playing TES: Daggerfall for the first time(thanks Bethesda!). And it needs repeating for the millionth time in ten years: God DAMN is this game huge!
Look At This Suit @ Jul 10th 2009 8:37PM
BF: 1943, and I'll be Gameflying everything I've missed up to this point. I just got Gamefly :D
Jrinswand @ Jul 10th 2009 8:39PM
I'm, uh, still stuck on Morrowind. Aside from Rock Band 2, which I bought for myself as an early birthday present, I'm pretty sure that Morrowind will be the only game I play for quite a while.
Whenever I'm done with Morrowind, I'll probably just move right on over to Daggerfall, which Bethesda released as freeware yesterday. I finally figured out how to work DOSBox, so I'm pretty psyched about that.
