Battlefield 1943 takes five million virtual lives on day one
Battlefield 1943 was an instant hit. We know this because we could barely play for the first few days the game was available. That didn't stop others, however, who managed to get into games and get with the killing. DICE's Gordon Van Dyke recently left an update on the official game forums, stating that players managed to get over five million kills on the game's first day of release. We imagine over half of those were people who had no business being in that airplane to begin with.
Oh, and for you kids keeping count and anxiously awaiting the new Coral Sea map, it looks like it'll be available sometime this week on Xbox 360. PS3 players will likely have to wait a while, as they're lagging behind big time in the kills.

HA!... don't worry PS3 owners... i'm sure "Air Superiority" won't be too great anyways. NOT!
snake6000 @ Jul 13th 2009 6:44PM
At least we're not paying out of our noses to play online.
Lunastra78 (PSN: lunastra78) @ Jul 13th 2009 12:37PM
amart-ass :p
phinnvr6 @ Jul 13th 2009 1:08PM
Actually the mode looks terrible. Flying planes in this game is so boring (Warhawk for exmaple is so much more fun) and that's the last thing I want to see added. I did get it for PSN and it's great, and if they were adding say a more urban map, or Normandy or something it would be worth getting excited over.
Platinum_Skeet @ Jul 13th 2009 2:32PM
Correct me if I'm wrong but from what it sounds like you can still do normal capture on the stage it just gives the option for air superiority.
Chris @ Jul 13th 2009 2:45PM
im so sick of people bashing flying in this game, just because your an idiot and cant fly doesnt mean flying sucks, learn to fly and stop bi*ching....
try to tail people to hit them , loop around when coming after boats and chase them down with the guns, when trying to bomb an area, go high and dive bomb it...
for gods sake take advantage of the ability to switch between inside and outside cameras...
flight in this game is amazing and very fun especially when your up against 2-3 skilled pilots all chasing after you or with 1 chasing you while your trying to chase his friend, its exilerating trying to dodge incoming fire from the back while trying to lineup a target....
not to mention when your damn target is like 100ft from his airstrip trying to get just close enough to start repairing.... MUHAAHHAHA KABLOOOOEYYYYYYYYYYYY
XBL: Burritoclock PSN:Herbie Hat @ Jul 13th 2009 2:57PM
I sick of the so called pilots that rack up their kill count but contribute nothing to winning the match. Cool you are good at dogfighting, but even if my team has not a single plane in the air we will beat the pants off you every time.
Planes are a fun novelty, their best use is a quick transport to a flag!
max stubbs @ Jul 14th 2009 5:19AM
Fly the planes if you want, no problem here, just dont sit on the god damn aircraft carrier for half the bloody match whining about how you should be in a plane. PLAY THE BLOODY GAME.
Gripman @ Jul 13th 2009 12:38PM
1943 is sweet. Bought it last night.
WINterfang @ Jul 13th 2009 12:38PM
LAG!!
Storm Eagle::The Blood Edge @ Jul 13th 2009 12:41PM
Indeed. I would have A LOT more kills and a lot less deaths if it were for the lag. Maybe the game will be more playable next week?
VeHeMeNcE @ Jul 13th 2009 1:01PM
I've had no problems with lag whatsoever when I've played....
phinnvr6 @ Jul 13th 2009 1:09PM
I've had no lag problems whatsoever. On PS3 at least.
Jampirow @ Jul 13th 2009 1:14PM
I have a crappy connection and I live far, faaaar away from the US. Yet I haven't felt any lag. At all. On the Us servers.
SoCoolCurt (PSN: KillaKornbread - XBL: SoCoolCurt) @ Jul 13th 2009 2:46PM
yea i had no lag problems in the PSN demo version. which surprised me because i usually have problems connecting to games because of my slow connection (like i can only play KZ2 online like half the time i try to). this one plays almost perfectly for me.
Sly @ Jul 13th 2009 3:46PM
i find it strange that PS3 owners are reporting no lag whatsoever, and 360 owners are reporting about major lag, and yet the 360 has nearly twice as many kills. i wonder what the 360's kill count would be like if they didn't have the connection issues...
domo @ Jul 13th 2009 12:39PM
EA can go suck a f**k, still can't connect. Sure its a great game though, so frustrating! *angry face*
HazyCloud @ Jul 13th 2009 12:41PM
I didn't have any issues last night. It seemed all the problems were worked out. I guess not.
As for the map, Xbox 360 is at 30 million right now. We should get the map in the next day or so.
Captain Planet @ Jul 13th 2009 12:43PM
+1 for the Donnie Darko reference.
Dr. steve brule @ Jul 13th 2009 8:51PM
what error msg do you get? i get failed to connect to ea server or something like that, and i think it has more do with how my gamertag is linked to my ea name, but i have no idea how to fix it.
Jcarpio @ Jul 13th 2009 12:41PM
I didn't have many lag issues. But it is a pain in trying to get into a game thru quick match or in a group.
j.howlett @ Jul 13th 2009 12:41PM
i liked the demo, but after my time was up i didn't feel the need to keep playing.
Freak Mojo @ Jul 13th 2009 12:45PM
Why not?
I'm on the fence with this one... I'd really like to have the quick hit factor of jumping in and not have to load a disc and such, but I'm not sure if I need ANOTHER shooter.
Anyone else have any user reviews on it :)
Storm Eagle::The Blood Edge @ Jul 13th 2009 12:50PM
I liked it. It's a stripped down version of Bad Company. Though, having never played any of the Battlefield games before Bad Company, I'm not sure how they really relate to one another. It's a fun game and the classes seemed pretty balanced. The maps are pretty big (thought I hate Iwo Jima) and the graphics are gorgeous. Some of the controls for the vehicles could use some work IMO (particularly the plane, though I think it's supposed to be difficult so people can't carpet bomb you every 5 seconds). Other than the connection issues, for $15, I found the game to be well worth it. Then again, you can get Bad Company for the same price used, and I'm sure people are still online playing that.
Matt @ Jul 13th 2009 12:52PM
One thing I have to commend them on is the sound, I have 5.1 and it sounds amazing when there are battles going on across the island and plans fly over head. The sound of the bombers coming is pretty frightening.
Travis @ Jul 13th 2009 12:56PM
@mojo
Games epic. Its very intense (as the original battlefields were). You get into so many....i guess epic moments. Driving in with a boat with a few other guys, seeing the boat next to you get shot down by a plane, bombs dropping everywhere from planes. One time I hopped in a jeep, and a bomb dropped literally right in front of me, and inch further and it would have hit. I took off as fast as I could on that thing. Sneaking around, capturing flags is a ton of fun too.
The Battlefield series (Outside of Heroes which was crap and Bad Company which was good but didnt feel very much like battlefield, I'm talking about 1942, 1943, 2, and I suppose 2142 though I have yet to play that) is some of the best shooters I've ever played, and you haven't played one, you must. Plus, this is only 15 bucks.
j.howlett @ Jul 13th 2009 12:57PM
i'm not sure yet. i want to try the plane some more, but i didn't feel like 'i can't wait to play again!' and EA trying to capitalize on console wars isn't helping. some of the guns felt a little weak.
bioadam @ Jul 13th 2009 2:18PM
The demo was way to short. Just when I was getting into the groove of not crashing planes, the game was over. I worry that the player populations won't support it. Not to be overly cynical, but if this game goes ghost town, I can't resell the disc or trade it with Goozex.
SoCoolCurt (PSN: KillaKornbread - XBL: SoCoolCurt) @ Jul 13th 2009 2:31PM
i'm in the same boat as j.howlett. i thought the demo was pretty awesome and it gave me just enough time to get a feel for it. though i'm really not sure if i want to buy it cause i'm not sure if it's something that's going to hook me completely or not. i've played plenty of PSN/XBLA games that seemed good but i just grew bored with them after i bought them. and i personally didn't play all that much of Battlefield 1942 and BF2, which were great games, but didn't hook me for very long (compared to my friend who played BF2 daily for like 2 years). i wish i could have demoed it a little bit longer.
i don't know, $15 isn't really all that much money so i might just go ahead and buy it.
Robert @ Jul 13th 2009 2:38PM
I tried the demo, but decided not to buy it, as was previously said it is a mini BF Bad Company. I returned to BF-BC after the demo expired (months without playing it) and I do not miss the new map, or the little improved graphics
343 Guilty Fart @ Jul 13th 2009 2:45PM
I'm thinking the same thing as Mojo, do I really need another shooter? Plus I've yet to be able to even try the demo as it won't let me connect. Each day that passes is another step towards 'don't purchase' for me.
Duke @ Jul 13th 2009 4:29PM
I enjoy the game a lot and think its worth the purchase, but I have enjoyed all the BF games for the most part and played the heck out of them on PC. (Though BF2 on the 360 sucked) 1943 is like BF 1942 light and it's a fun game to jump into and just crack up. I guess its mostly nostalgia that pulls me in, but I know I couldn't put it down this weekend when I had other new games sitting there to play still. It offers a quick fix with some fun goals to try to rack up.
Matt @ Jul 13th 2009 12:43PM
I have only had one issue with lag and it always seems like I have to search for quick matches a few times before I get in. It's still a great game and well worth the cost.
Crimson_Ryan @ Jul 13th 2009 12:44PM
A few hundred of those kills are mine. :D
And a few thousand deaths belong to me as well. :(
WINterfang @ Jul 13th 2009 12:45PM
Kojima you look constipated, have some fiber for god's sake.
Kenneth @ Jul 13th 2009 12:50PM
yea i can understand that, ive been taking a suicidal approach by strapping TNT to a jeep and blowing up several people and vehicles in enemy bases
-10 suicide
+10 vehicle destroyed
+10 killed
+10 killed
Hydrophobicfish @ Jul 13th 2009 1:07PM
I have to say, Kenneth, while I know there was Kamikazee in WW2, the idea of a suicide bomber like that is probably the funniest thing I've seen all day.
Wince @ Jul 18th 2009 8:35PM
@ KennethYou don't have to kill yourself, just jump out of the car in time. I get most of my kills will death-mobiles.
nriveraexpress @ Jul 13th 2009 4:36PM
thats cool but why does one brick of c4 blow a tank up while shooting the ground out of a soldier only hurts them, even the secondary gun takes a few seconds to kill just one man on foot, i know they are just trying to stop the tank from being overpowered but cmon thats a bit much.
Hxczuner (PSN i.d) @ Jul 13th 2009 12:56PM
I loved the demo; almost cried when it ended... But I play so much Killzone online I don't know if it would be worth the money. They're 2 very different games but i don't know.. any thoughts?
Geist @ Jul 13th 2009 2:45PM
I preferred this much more than Killzone 2. In KZ, it just feels like you're doing the same thing over and over again: Spawn, run out, kill guys while trying to get to the objective, die. In BF1943, however, you can keep trying new approaches to capturing the targets. Fly planes to support your team, jump in a jeep with your squad, take a tank and see what you can do while gunning down everyone. Even when I was losing in BF1943 I was having fun, but KZ2 felt much more plain, not as fun.
Asher @ Jul 13th 2009 1:00PM
Hey all you PS3 Fanboy, that's our cue to bring it! Can't wait to get home tonight and play. Must get more kills for the sake of PS3! hahaha, have fun guys, see you online.

No fair! You changed the outcome by measuring it!
I learned that from Zertoss! :D
McWilly @ Jul 13th 2009 2:50PM
Yeah but silencer has a lot more kills and his K/D ratio is better. Which means ASP3NDORA66 must be whoring his points through other means (ie being a pussy).
McWilly @ Jul 13th 2009 3:01PM
I just did another check on the leaderboards and it turns out that the top 15 players on PS3 have significantly less kills than the top 15 360 players even though they have more points. So either the scoring system is different on PS3 or it has a lot more pussy boosters.
Platinum_Skeet @ Jul 13th 2009 4:42PM
Shit if you've ever played Killzone 2 on PS3 you'll know that there are a fair amount of pussies on PS3. I can't count the amount of times I walked into an open class match to find 3/4's of the people playing using shotguns or rockets in their kits...
