Fallout 3 PS3 DLC 'by end of September,' starting with Broken Steel

June came and went with no sign of the PS3 Fallout 3 DLC, as promised. A new post on the PlayStation Blog reveals that the content will be "releasing later than originally expected." You don't say. Quite a bit later, actually, as we should be seeing the first packs being released "by the end of September." Ouch.
There is some good news, though. Seeing as there's such a large delay, Bethesda will be changing the order in which the packs will be released. Broken Steel -- which expands the game beyond its original ending and increases the level cap -- will be the first pack to be released, with Operation Anchorage and The Pitt coming soon after. The latter two may well be released simultaneously, as an apology for the delay. The two new packs, Point Lookout and Mothership Zeta will then be made available "as soon as [Bethesda] can."

Finally! I hope...
Storm Eagle::The Blood Edge @ Jul 13th 2009 1:41PM
See PS3 owners? No reason to complain. Atleast they're doing it in the right order for you guys. Releasing the DLC with the expanded level cap FIRST and then the following up with the other expansions.
It really sucked being at the original cap and not being able to level passed it even though you were playing through new content.
CtrlBurn @ Jul 13th 2009 3:23PM
Yep, I'm not upset about this. I bought the game with the understanding that they would never release the DLC for PS3, so this has all been good news as far as I'm concerned. Delays are not a big deal.
WhiteShield @ Jul 13th 2009 7:52PM
while this is good and everything, i borrowed this game from my friend for like 3 months so i love this game. and since i dont own it, then i can pick up the GOTY edition. if you think about it, if it really is 60 dollars like normal games are, then you get the game for 10 dollars and every map pack for 10 dollars. thats an amazing deal
InFaMoUs1- @ Jul 13th 2009 1:43PM
lame

wut
InFaMoUs1- @ Jul 13th 2009 1:48PM
The delays, I thought this be here by now
NaeemTHM @ Jul 13th 2009 2:04PM
You would think as a PS3 owner you'd be used to shenanigans like this by now.
dark_inchworm (on Steam!) dark inchworm (on XBL!) @ Jul 13th 2009 2:05PM
No, I understood, I was just being a jester and responding to a one-word post with a one-word post.
It's all good, dawg.
el serpiente @ Jul 13th 2009 3:11PM
Jesters are supposed to be funny.
dark_inchworm (on Steam!) dark inchworm (on XBL!) @ Jul 13th 2009 4:19PM
At least I'm usually humorous and only occasionally a dick, and not persistently a dick, right?
Indefinite Implosion @ Jul 13th 2009 9:42PM
being a bit more on topic...
I'd think it'd be lame-er if they released it now and it was broken or majorly buggy...
I'd rather wait... but damn them if it gets delayed that much AND is still buggy and/or broken
dgautreau86 @ Jul 13th 2009 1:44PM
good for ps3, this DLC is quality and they've been missing out and pretending not to care. I installed broken steel before playing any of the DLC packs, so it really only affected those who were unpatient.
Trev @ Jul 13th 2009 1:46PM
Hopefully it won't be buggy as shit like the 360 releases. I think its locked up every time I played it. I've barely gotten into Broken Steel because of it and am really not excited about the next two DLC packs because between new games and Fallout freezing and costing me X minutes or hours of gameplay, I don't know that I'd ever actually play them.
Storm Eagle::The Blood Edge @ Jul 13th 2009 1:55PM
You might wanna look into that Trev. I never had Broken Steel lock up on me.
1943 on the other hand, locked up on me twice last night. Damn near in a row.
The Dark Wayne @ Jul 13th 2009 2:07PM
fallout freezes on me like no other game does
vask @ Jul 14th 2009 1:53AM
i hope in the mean time they can patch the ps3 version to be alot less buggy
while playing the original game my game kept freezing up like crazy i hope they can remedy this
and i also hope it doesnt affect the release window for the GOTY version because i plan on buying that instead of buying the expansions separately.
The Dark Wayne @ Jul 13th 2009 1:47PM
have they said if they're going to do more after Mothership Zeta? I havent heardd any official declaration that its the final one but i havent heard anything about new stuff either
Markez @ Jul 13th 2009 1:50PM
Congrats on hitting level 30 there, pal :P I've done The Pitt & Point Lookout, and have downloaded but not touched Broken Steel or Operation Anchorage. I don't know if I can do Mothership Zeta or more DLC at this point, finally starting to tire just a bit on Fallout.
Storm Eagle::The Blood Edge @ Jul 13th 2009 1:53PM
I'm pretty sure they've stated that Mothership Zeta will be the absolute last DLC for Fallout 3. I'm not sure if I'll make it that far though. I skipped Achorage and The Pitt and I really wanted to download Point Lookout but other games have gotten in the way. Eh, they gotta go free at some point, right? right?
Markez @ Jul 13th 2009 1:58PM
Granted I've only played through 2 of them, but I think Point Lookout was exceptionally deep.
Manly Mcbeefington (Mr. ESC) @ Jul 13th 2009 2:09PM
You guys have most of the DLC and I still have more achievements than you he he,yeah I have checked, hey need a hand with the Gears of war 2 co-op achievement Bruce?
Anyhow I'm still waiting for the retail pack with Broken Steel and Point Lookout,Gameplanet says it won't arrive here but I'm still going to wait until August,if it doesn't arrive then I'll download it...or I could buy the PS3 GOTY pack if the stuff is really cool.
samik @ Jul 13th 2009 1:48PM
Very thoughful, and I am sure a few people will care - but most PS3 owners would have sold their game and moved on to inFamous, Assassin Creed 2, Uncharted 2, etc. Hope that check MS gave you was big enough, Bethesda, because that delay is going to cost you money, maybe a million copies per DLC
R (XBL: Esoteric Lord) @ Jul 13th 2009 1:50PM
Uncharted 2: September 30 2009
Assassin's Creed 2: November 17, 2009
Hmmm.
Eh, guess I'll give you that one.
Trev @ Jul 13th 2009 1:53PM
I hadn't even thought about that, but I have to agree. There are lots of games I want to check out coming out around that time. Anything from passing interest to childlike grabby-hands desire is going to distract from DLC purchasing. Dark Void, Katamari Forever, Singularity and WET are all supposed to be coming out in September as well.
samik @ Jul 13th 2009 1:57PM
Wolfenstein, Section 8, Batman in Aug though
November is insane: MAG, COD 6, AC2, Bioshock 2, possibly Ratchet as well
BIGGEN (LIVE-PSN: BIGGEN1103) @ Jul 13th 2009 2:00PM
is "maybe a million copies per DLC" your expert opinion?
Manly Mcbeefington (Mr. ESC) @ Jul 13th 2009 2:26PM
Maybe then again how many copies of Bioshock were sold on the Ps3?
About the list wars what the hell happened to Battlefield Bad Company 2? To be honest Battlefield Lite is not doing it for me and BC2 was my most anticipated game with the Gears of War 2 DLC.
I'll get Batman,COD6[*cough Modern Warfare 2 *cough],Uncharted and Ratchet and Clank.I don't get a good vibe from the rest especially Dark Void and Wolfenstein.
pspfanboi @ Jul 13th 2009 1:50PM
I think an appropriate apology from bethesda should include FREE download content since they made us wait over a year for this. a lot of gamers have already moved on to other games and traded this into gamestop.
WINterfang @ Jul 13th 2009 1:53PM
Hurray for those people.
Drew @ Jul 13th 2009 2:07PM
Does this come with new Trophies, too?
Manly Mcbeefington (Mr. ESC) @ Jul 13th 2009 2:11PM
I think it does.I would like to get platinum on the PS3 version as well, the only quest that was pain in the ass was the Nuka Cola quest and its cake now with the Chemist perk (I did it in the maunal way) the rest of the quest can be finished rather quickly with an evil character and a high charisma.
Gstaff @ Jul 13th 2009 2:35PM
There will be Trophies for the DLC
Drew @ Jul 16th 2009 11:13AM
I just platinumed it. It never got boring, even though I had to play through it 4 times. Good job, Bethesda.
I remember how awesome I felt when I found the downed spaceship :) I brought the alien body with me everywhere.
Lunastra78 (PSN: lunastra78) @ Jul 13th 2009 2:11PM
I will buy these when i feel like doing the evil and neutral playthroughs and get those last trophies I'm missing. How much size do all the DLC take up on the HD?
Manly Mcbeefington (Mr. ESC) @ Jul 13th 2009 2:17PM
Pitt and OP:A which I currently have are 300MB to 500MB each I think, you could also wait for the GOTY edition if you don't want to install them.
I hate the PS3 install,it takes forever depending on the game of course.
Pro Tip:Save before reaching Levels 8,14,20 and 30 then Kill everyone in Megaton to reach negative or neutral karma then level up and reload.
Lunastra78 (PSN: lunastra78) @ Jul 13th 2009 2:50PM
I don't really feel like doing a neutral run (sounds boring) but I'm looking forward to the evil one. Perhaps I can do it just the opposite way by saving megaton on my evil run to reach those neutral levels 8,14, 20 and 30?
Manly Mcbeefington (Mr. ESC) @ Jul 13th 2009 3:57PM
Neutral with High Charisma = Main Story Speed Run.You can pass it on neutral with high Charisma in a couple of hours and if its for the trophies alone just save before reaching any of the levels mentioned above and start a killing spree on any town (Except Rivet City, they have nukes) and then you only need to reload your save.
Jackie_Treehorn @ Jul 13th 2009 2:17PM
Oh yes smart move here. Release it around the time Uncharted 2, AC 2, and MW 2 come out. Then we'll have Bethesda saying "Well it sold like crap on PS3, no reason for us to do anything else again for those guys."
Rainhoove @ Jul 26th 2009 6:48AM
This. Damn, and I used to really like Bethesda.
ryan @ Sep 1st 2009 8:56PM
well no cause most its in November 2 months away, and most people will buy a couple at a time not right as they come out
tkAshur @ Jul 13th 2009 2:25PM
Wow...just got into Fallout 3 on ps3 and didn't even think to look if the DLC was even available...this whole DLC exclusivity thing sucks. I mean...does ps3 even have ANY exclusiveness? Glad I only got into the game recently. Would've been mad at how long the wait was...still only in megaton too...so I suppose I have a ways to go before I should download the contents.
Neptune @ Jul 13th 2009 2:28PM
I'll likely just get Broken steel. I don't like that you temporarily lose your equipment in the other DLCs. Plus Broken Steen increases the level cap.
Markez @ Jul 13th 2009 3:29PM
That's a ridiculous reason to not get the other available DLC.
kentuckyfried @ Jul 13th 2009 2:41PM
lol...I knew Bethesda was going to completely fumble their deadline. That's what you get from a company that's 90% Microsoft's b1tch.
Well, as the old adage goes, "better late than never."
Lookhappy @ Jul 13th 2009 2:42PM
They should just fooking hurry up! I've been dying to keep playing Fallour since I completed it at christmas!
It's been so tempting to just trade it in but I really love the game so the news of DLC is keeping me pinned.
And on the plus side - when they do release the DLC it should be faultless - better than have rushed versions in my opinion.
Now I just need another game to get me through the summer....
Final Fantasy is currently keeping me busy, but something new please!
tashpool @ Jul 13th 2009 2:50PM
I'm happy the DLC is finally coming, but it just seems like Bethseda can not get their act together. They first denied the DLC would ever come, then made a promise date that's long gone, and now with the ugly delay Broken Steel and such is going up against it's own GOTY edition and a lot of top notch titles.
Is anyone over there actually trying to run a game company?
Gman @ Jul 13th 2009 3:04PM
"as soon as [Bethesda] can." meaning, as soon as their contract with Microsoft expires. Don't try to make this look like development delays or issues with porting the DLC, this is just Bethesda screwing PS3 owners.
I love the game, but don't insult my intelligence Bethesda. Bethesda could make the DLC availible tomorrow, but they just favor Microsoft a lot more. It should be at least 50% off as an apology. And if they really mean it, they should go PS3 exclusive for the DLC on their next game.
psdeuce @ Jul 13th 2009 3:07PM
Isn't the GOTY edition coming out in October? Even if you have Fallout 3... wouldn't you just trade it in (for like 5 bucks probably) and purchase the GOTY edition?
Shadow_Modder @ Jul 13th 2009 3:13PM
I'll probably platinum the game and sell it. Then, I'd buy the GOTY edition later on. It seems to be a better deal as I don't have to download all the add-ons, plus it should cost less, depending how much I get for the original game.
Like many have said too, there are a bunch of great games coming up around that time, though I'm not getting them all, I'll sure pick up Uncharted 2, and that probably be it for 2009.
