In one of the OXM walkthroughs they said there'd be 5 maps, and still didn't mention any new infected besides the charger. COD:MW2 definitely will take precedence over this title.

"This is just a good game, made again. "
To me, the question is not whether its a bad game - what bugs me is that, when it comes to reviews, there is no differentiation between lazy developers like Valve and those like Naughty Dog or Insomniac who sweat blood to improve their games and add features like Resistance 2's 8-player coop, a deeper experience than Left4Dead's imho. Naughty dog improved their already superb engine, added co-op / multiplayer and you can be sure Joystiq or Edge will be picking apart some trivial stuff like voice acting or something.

This article is a little off. Unless some of the other design changes aren't in the New Orleans level they played, there's other features that WILL be in this game. Branching paths, special events, etc. Valve has announced a lot of things that will be unique to each playthrough, and there should hopefully be less repetition. This is all part of the new, completely revised Director AI.

One thing that I've noticed is that Valve seems to be trying (too) hard to convince the masses that they aren't trying to exploit their existing technology over and over and over again and that this really REALLY is a new game.

I was reading an old Eurogamer interview with Gabe Newell and Robin Walker talking about Episodic content, improving AI, graphics and generally making their games come out ALOT faster than it normally takes them.

It's worth a read (even though its 3 years old), and it just makes L4D2 look like an overpriced expansion, to me. I mean, they are using the same basic game tech/premise/story...Why not just brand the whole franchise:

Left 4 Dead - Episode I -$59
Left 4 Dead - Episode 2 -$39
etc..

It not like they aren't going to sell a shit-ton of games this way, AND they wont like complete hypocrites in the process.

link to the interview ( http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/i_valve_060606 ).

Ah, I see. Now *that's* the reason why there's still no sign of HL2 Ep. 3. Their development is just too fast for us to notice.

EA already making their mark on valve since buyout, if they were still independant i'm sure l4d2 would be a lot more of a game and a lot less of an addon pack.
i really enjoyed l4d but got bored of it after few months so if nothings really changed still gonna be bored of it.
Must try harder to get my money

EA does not own Valve. You are mistaken. Have a nice day.

Okay, this is my understanind of all the complaints - basically, if this game came out in November of 2010, there would be no complaints. New characters, enemies, weapons, maps, graphical update, etc., are all standard additions to sequels. Hell, that's what makes it a sequel in the first place, isn't it?! Just because the game is coming out THIS November, it's too soon, and should just be DLC for 20 bucks?

I don't really get it, but that's okay. I'll be enjoying this game from the first day it's released with all the other people who got over it and just decided to have some fun instead of complain.

no the complaint here is a year for a sequel is really TOO SHORT A TIME. =3= plus the fact the "features" u mentioned can be given thru dlc (except shooting off limbs and stuff) if they spent an extra year ppl wun't complain cause at least they put SOME work into it agreed? by doing this like just a year shows (to me) how little effort they've put in.

The first one was great but there wasn't enough of it, I regretted paying full price for a game with so little content. I really hope we will get what we pay for next time.
Just compare it to some proper games and its hardly much more than an XBLA download.

Think of it like this:

Maps are just maps. If you get a Doom/Quake/HL map pack, it's got levels, maybe some new guns, that's about it. No fancy cinematics, no cool new one-liners from competent voice actors, no new online components, no new matching system or AI tweaks.

If you get all of that stuff, plus more achievements, it's a new game. If you can't shell out an extra $20 to get all that stuff, you're deluding yourself. $20 = dinner and a movie for ONE person. Fast food. Is seeing "Transformers 2" a more compelling expenditure than getting all the perks of a REAL game? I hope not.

L4D2 should have Ray from Planet Terror. He was a god damn beast.
