Mario and Sonic's winter outing dated for October 16
We may have ragged on the first Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games a lot, but -- as horrible as we thought it was -- it managed to capture the interest (and money) of almost every man, woman, and child in all of the UK. So, Sega is working as fast as it can to get the latest version of its new money-printing machine, Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games, out to retail, announcing that the game will release this October.

Oh Thank God, YES!
I've been waiting for a release date on this game.
Head for the Slopes? More like Run to the Hills.......from this game.
dark_inchworm (on Steam!) dark inchworm (on XBL!) @ Jul 13th 2009 3:08PM
October? But that's nowhere near winter here in Tennessee! We have summer and winter, the latter usually referred to only as "Christmas."
[tre] @ Jul 13th 2009 3:13PM
The same applies here in your neighbor state, North Cackalacky.
Cody @ Jul 13th 2009 3:33PM
+1 to [tre] for use of a Trick Daddy reference today.
Captain Planet @ Jul 13th 2009 3:11PM
I'm sorry you have to go through all this Sonic. No character in videogame history has every been more brutally raped than you have. One day, you will rise up from the shadow (no pun intended) of death, and return to glory and awesome.
:pours one for the homies:

Poor Sonic has had it pretty hard. Look how extreme he is though, he gets to snowboard while Mario has to ski. Extreme.

Incoming Sonic WiiFanboy Defense in 3...2...1...
Storm Eagle::The Blood Edge @ Jul 13th 2009 3:23PM
Except he's skiing in the DS version while Mario is snowboarding. Odd...
Old Professor Zertoss @ Jul 13th 2009 3:27PM
Having lived through the glorious 16-bit era, it is absolutely bizarre to me to see Sonic fanboys being equated with Nintendo fanboys.
I feel as though I will never fit in to this world.
Cody @ Jul 13th 2009 3:35PM
I'll second that, Zertoss.
CTC XBL-supapaypamawio PSN-ctclaw @ Jul 13th 2009 3:43PM
I agree Zertoss, it is pretty crazy. When you think of people that defend the Wii Sonic games, who do you think of though? My first thought is Khan and Fernando.
Spartan @ Jul 13th 2009 4:00PM
CTC put me down for Fernando defending him first.
Where's samfish? he was such a good booky.
Mr Khan @ Jul 13th 2009 5:01PM
Black Knight was a gift from the gaming gods. I don't care what anyone says.
It was the first 3D Sonic platformer in a long time to feature a fully playable Knuckles. That alone is enough
WINterfang @ Jul 13th 2009 10:10PM
Sonic Unleashed 360 is the best 3D Sonic game in decades.
WINterfang @ Jul 13th 2009 10:16PM
@t Captain Planet: Yeah how dare SEGA make Sonic appear in one of the best selling games of all time.
Fernando Rocker @ Jul 13th 2009 3:11PM
I hope that after this game, Sega and Nintendo decides to create a 2D Mario and Sonic platformer game (developed by Nintendo, of course)... I bet it would sell equally or even more than the Olympic series...
That would be nice...
Old Professor Zertoss @ Jul 13th 2009 3:23PM
I'd be interested in seeing what Nintendo would come up with if tasked with making a 3D Sonic platformer.
charlie b. @ Jul 13th 2009 3:32PM
@Old Professor Zertoss
three words: WAGGLE WAGGLE WAGGLE
Old Professor Zertoss @ Jul 13th 2009 3:56PM
Sega already made that, it was called Sonic and the 4 Hour Wagglefest.
I mean a REAL platformer like Mario Galaxy, where waggling is secondary to the running and jumping.
ilovethewaggle @ Jul 13th 2009 4:54PM
Sonic has only proven one thing on the Wii, he just can't stop running even if he's running towards the coveted (secret) Metacritic rings of death. Galaxy is a great game and the new sidescroller will sell a hujillion copies as will Galaxy 2. Instead of trying to recreat an age old experience Sega needs to continue to develop titles like MadWorld. They'll be profiatable enterprises....someday. Or just come out with a Dreamcast HD and blow everybody's fuckin mind.
Mr Khan @ Jul 13th 2009 5:02PM
Get together people from EAD Tokyo and Sonic Team to form a special project, just like they put Team Ninja and SPD1 (former R&D1) guys together to do Other M, so its not entirely impossible at this point.
Nigeria @ Jul 13th 2009 3:16PM
The Sonic and Mario collaborations have not been what I'd imagined, so far at least. The Summer games were a nice diversion, I suppose, but I'm still holding out for a solid platformer. That seems ever more unlikely.
Oh, also, Mario looks retarded on that DS cover.
Manly Mcbeefington (Mr. ESC) @ Jul 13th 2009 3:40PM
I thought the next Mario was going to be Mario + Sonic made by Nintendo with a small, small help from Sonic Team. You know someone has to bring Shigeru Miyamoto his coffee.
KeegdnaB @ Jul 13th 2009 3:17PM
Hopefully this will be a worthy spiritual successor to Nagano 98 for N64
Cj @ Jul 13th 2009 3:26PM
Seeing this kind of shit every 4 months and not Shenmue 3 breaks my heart. Sega fails so hard.
Old Professor Zertoss @ Jul 13th 2009 3:31PM
It's like they whore out Sonic to make the money they need for their next big project, but then they blow that money on whoring out Sonic to make the money they need for their next big project, but then they blow that money on whoring out Sonic...
Manly Mcbeefington (Mr. ESC) @ Jul 13th 2009 3:42PM
You really want them to develop a new Shenmue when they can0t even get a Sonic game right? You need to crawl before you can walk and after Sonic and the Black Knight Sega has been crawling over a lot of broken glasses.
Mr Khan @ Jul 13th 2009 4:59PM
Shenmue did help to kill Sega, so i can understand their aversion to making a 3rd.
Though their is Yakuza now, which is as good as a spiritual successor, at least according to Sega themselves.
YouStayClassy @ Jul 13th 2009 3:31PM
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
*FINALLY* a mini game compilation on the Wii! It's about time!
Cody @ Jul 13th 2009 3:38PM
smh...
Dude it's like halfway thru 2009, that shit is slightly old.
Manly Mcbeefington (Mr. ESC) @ Jul 13th 2009 3:44PM
You dare to bring sarcasm into my lair, you must die! *lightning
CTC XBL-supapaypamawio PSN-ctclaw @ Jul 13th 2009 3:46PM
Enough with the "SMH" stuff.
Sega Uranus @ Jul 13th 2009 3:52PM
For an Olympics videogame, it's probably the best so far. I bet this will be even better. It has Metal Sonic... METAL SONIC!
Also, those are really awesome boxarts.
Ashitaka @ Jul 13th 2009 4:02PM
Like Sonic would ever need a snowboard, skis, a racing car and all the retarded crap SEGA's made him go through... He'd be faster without them!
I wish he could just speed through all his future crappy games so we could finally get a good Sonic game. I liked some of Sonic Unleashed's day levels, but the game could have been much better than what it was.
Storm Eagle::The Blood Edge @ Jul 13th 2009 4:25PM
As it pertains to Sonic Unleashed, I can only hope that there was someone at the meetings with a brain screaming "No! We've got it! The game works! We don't need any gimmicky werewolf b.s.! You're going to ruin it!"
I can only hope.
Ashitaka @ Jul 13th 2009 5:14PM
Ahah, yeah, I hope that too.
Btw, this comic seems appropriate:

ese150 @ Jul 22nd 2009 9:43PM
Ashitaka: Sonic has been shown to enjoy snowboarding since Sonic 3, so what's wrong with that? Just because he's faster on feet, it doesn't mean that he doesn't/can't/shouldn't enjoy skiing and snowboarding just for fun. When you see someone skating, do you say to them "Why do you skate? You could go faster by simply running!" ?
Of course, Sonic in a racing car still doesn't make sense.
Adv2k1 @ Jul 13th 2009 5:52PM
The worst thing about this is no Wii Motion Plus support.
maybe it could redeem itself by using that. It comes out in October for Crying out loud that should be plenty of time to make the controls work.
WINterfang @ Jul 13th 2009 10:12PM
Hate all you want guys, it's only going to make your tears sweeter if this game ends up out selling your favorite franchise.
Mogster @ Jul 14th 2009 3:00AM
I am the only one who actually enjoyed playing the first one? The controls were fun and multiplayer was sweeet.
Princessb89 @ Jul 14th 2009 10:30PM
woa didn't know this was coming out. I think i'd have more fun with this than summer.
