Nokia closes up N-Gage dev studio
When you're writing your first post about a gaming platform in nine months, it's very rarely good news. For example, all it's taken for the N-Gage to get back on Joystiq's front page is the closure of Nokia's N-Gage development studio, which occurred on June 30. The group was responsible for porting major franchises to the system like Call of Duty, Tiger Woods and Tony Hawk.
The fate of the 100 or so employees at the Vancouver studio isn't clear at the moment, but we heard about some jobs opening up in their land -- if they don't mind traveling 4,374 km to get them.

How weird, I just sold my two N-Gage(s) to someone else.
You can still purchase parts and batteries from them right now. Looks like that might change now...

Every time a gaming platform dies, God kills a kitten.
In this case, God could give 2 squirts of piss about the N-Gage.
smcn @ Jul 13th 2009 7:22PM
I bet God was a fan of sidetalkin', which is why he killed the N-Gage. http://www.sidetalkin.com/

I disagree, God cared enough to condemn the N-Gage to the bowels of Gaming Hell, right next to the E.T. game.

Wow! Someone understands that Vancouver and Toronto are 'not' an hour drive away from each other.

They could be if they would just let me use my laser cannon to saw out the useless part in the middle.
( I kid, I kid.)
Kinsey @ Jul 14th 2009 10:08AM
As far as I'm concerned the whole Middle and East side of North America is useless ;)
Damian @ Jul 13th 2009 6:44PM
God knows how they thought they could make a success from a combination of a phone that plays games...oh wait.

Die monster you don't belong in this world!

N-Gage: Too much too soon that doesn't do any of it well enough. Like the Turbographx 16.
Captain Planet @ Jul 13th 2009 6:48PM
More like too much too suck.
Mr Khan @ Jul 13th 2009 7:15PM
too soon is a good term. The iPhone is probably making the N-Gage devs green with envy, since it does most of what they were after, but much better (the only functionality it lacks being buttons)
Vegnagun bwf @ Jul 13th 2009 6:50PM
Pour your 40 on the ground for them. We lost good devs today.
WRYYYYYY @ Jul 13th 2009 7:05PM
Um... they worked on the N-Gage. We lost devs. Not good ones.
Vegnagun bwf @ Jul 13th 2009 7:11PM
Sarcasm doesn't work to well over the internet, but seriously you couldn't tell that I was being facetious?
ArchiGamer Reaches Level 20!!!! @ Jul 13th 2009 6:59PM
That still exists!!!

I thought they were already dead.

Goodnight, Sweet Prince.

But how could something so cool looking fail so quickly?!

*Redneck accent* If you've never made a game in widescreen....ya might be a N-Gage developer.
Elmoogle @ Jul 14th 2009 12:28AM
Um, what had those 100 employees been doing for the last four years?
goboColossus (LIVE, PSN - gobopop) @ Jul 14th 2009 3:59AM
The N-Gage brand was reused for Nokia's software gaming platform on most of their higher-end phones (worked like Xbox LIVE + App Store). They weren't actually developing for the N-Gage or N-Gage QD anymore.
nebular @ Jul 14th 2009 8:18AM
Is this about the current generation ngage software or the hardware platform from a few years ago ???
Nate Addison @ Jul 14th 2009 1:38PM
Seeing the N-Gage again makes me long for the Matrix cell phones that came out to promote the movies. lol.
