I actually think they are. I mean i've been bashing activision for copying Rock Band and basically buying Harmonix's idea since they bought the franchise. But for once they seem to be adding small features that could make or break the game.

I just hope harmonix copy's their ideas as well, because karma is a bitch.

I thought it notable that when it says that you can have 4 of any instrument*, while the fine print says that it must be 4 Guitar Hero Brand controllers.

Ahh, Activision, still up to your old tricks.

I hope not, I only have Rock Band instruments.

Didn't Microsoft and Sony make rules that every instrument must be compatible with every music game? I don't think we have to worry about RB instruments suddenly not being compatible anymore.

@Flit

It doesn't say that they have to be GH brand. It only said that so that people won't think that that they are real guitars/mics/drums.

The star is it only refers to instruments that can be used with the game. RB instruments can be used. There's no reason why they would remove coding that is already present. Let alone piss of Microsoft and Sony, who would not be keen with letting it happen.

The reason it is there, is so nobody gets the idea to plug their trumpet, flute, or glockenspiel into their console and expect to have a track ready to play. . It's just a technicality.

Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if the 4 instrument at a time thing was limited to "Guitar Hero" branded controllers. In GH: Metallica, I can't even do the tutorials because I am using my Rock Band gear.

Oh, and of course there are achievements tied to completing the tutorials...bastards.

or maybe some disc swapping so you can rip your own legal CDs and use them!

What would happen if I put in a CD of Bill Cosby standup in? How would that chart? :P

Activision finally learned that you really have to do nothing to bring in the loads of money, presumably

Agreed. None of the features are useful to me at all, so unless it's fixing things I wasn't a fan of in GH Metallica, I'll probably just rent it and stick with Rock Band 2 and maybe even The Beatles RB.

It's called Rockband 2.

Why would you want another Rockband (besides The Beatles offcourse)? With all the DLC they have that game never gets old.

The Beatles do deserve their own game though, fuck, they should have their own video game console.

They could do a title update adding up...uh, I dunno, more clothing, new venues, etc, and still the game wouldn't need another sequel. I'm more than happy with the fact that RB2 is gonna be one year old in a few months but with the constant DLC coming up it never feels old at least for me.

So there you go, GHWT, GHSH, and GH5 but RB2 remains to be better, unless GH5 really offers something new and mindblowing, but knowing Activision, they'll go by the safe-moneymaking route.

When they said Arctic Monkeys were going to be in there, I went fuckin' nutshit, but since that's the only song I'm really interested in (don't get me wrong, there are some good songs there, just nothing to make me cream my pants like a half naked Poison Euge.. I mean Ivy would).

I'll wait for this thing to hit the bargain bin, which I expect to be within 3 months, after Guitar Hero 9 comes out.

Will probably wait for it to hit the bargain bin as well, along with GH: Smash Hits. I'll honestly say that I bought GH:WT with the hopes that Activision would really step up the DLC, eliminating the need for all these sequels and expansions, but I guess I shouldn't be surprised that it didn't happen. Either way, I'm happy with that purchase 'cause the GH instruments are the bulk of what I paid for and they're still great and are fully compatible with RB2 and above.

It's not like Harmonix/EA aren't exploiting their franchise, either, but at least they're giving consumers a choice: if you want the new installment, great, if you don't, there's still plenty of great DLC. There are a lot of great songs in GH5 that could have been DLC and Activision knows it...sadly they just use DLC for whatever's left over and save the good shit...

if you read what you just said.. :) rb isn't being exploited; we aren't buying new discs, games but only DLC so we get only what we want not the crap

anywho.. no GH for me. i'll stick w/my rockband 2. love the DLC and green day finally!

I wonder if after a band hero they will ditch the GH name? Move on with Band Hero and DJ Hero. Click the plus if you think this makes sense, or click the minus if you want more milking.

Band Hero is a completely different franchise from Guitar Hero. Activision said that Band Hero would focus on more pop songs and be more family friendly.

GH5 is another one of those sequel title fuckups. You know there are going to be confused consumers out there looking for the game titled "Guitar Hero 4." And I agree that they should have used Band Hero as the brand from here on out. Release the family friendly songs as DLC, or if you absolutely must, as an expansion. But I think I speak for most of us when I say I won't give a flying fuck about those songs.

You know Activision would have slowly built up to the full-band game (releasing Drum Hero, Bass Hero, and Vocals Hero before FINALLY releasing a game three years later that lets you incorporate all instruments) if they didn't have to compete with Rock Band.

Again, I'll get GH5 eventually, but not at launch and only when the price drops quite a bit. It's just a shame they can't just fucking release these as DLC; no one cares about being able to play with four drumkits.

Nope, I thought the same thing. Four drumkits looks ridiculous. Plus, have they even thought through the logic of that? I have GHWT (disc) and RB2 (full kit). For a while, I also had RB1 in addition. I couldn't get that first drum kit out of my house fast enough.

Do they really expect that people are going to have more than, say, two drum kits in their house? Or that if you're playing it in a party situation, that anyone else with a drum kit is going to want to lug it over to your house (or vice versa) for the novelty of playing multiple drum sets?

The whole thing just smacks of throwing shit at the wall and seeing what sticks.
