Japanese iPhone / iPod Touch app site AppBank was evidently able to download a copy of Resident Evil 4: Mobile Edition from the region's App Store before it was pulled down, as evidenced by gameplay video and screenshots taken by the site. Touch Arcade picked up on the news, but details beyond the quasi-leaked media are scant. It appears that the game is -- as its title suggests -- a mobile version of RE4, and from the video it's clear that players have full control over Leon Kennedy's movement via an on-screen thumbstick, entering aiming mode when another icon is pressed.
We've put in word to Capcom's US division to find out exactly what we're looking at and how it seemingly slipped out. In the meantime, check out AppBank's video after the break.
I have a PS3 but I didn't like Resident Evil 4 until it was a Wii game, so why would I buy a game that's by most accounts less fun than Resident Evil 4? And using the term "man console" doesn't make you sound any more mature.
I hope there will be a different control scheme. Aiming with a virtual control stick does not look fun. I prefer by FAR the method where you touch and drag your finger anywhere on the screen to move the aiming reticule. Sooo much more accurate. This is impressive, probably only works on the 3GS, but I'd totally get it if it had a better control option than in that video.
Love my iphone but never seen any games that aren't little silly ones that I would consider buying. A port of one of my all time favourites may just turn that around.
Since no one here seems to have noticed this is actually the second RE game on the iPhone, and the other was a exclusive. It was a (fairly loose) game adaption of the CG movie Resident Evil: Degeneration, good coverage here: http://toucharcade.com/2009/05/12/capcon-brings-resident-evil-degeneration-to-iphone/ Overall it was pretty good, a bit on the short side, even for a RE game but cheap at $7 so that equals out. Also the aiming was a little rough when in a hurry, but zombies were slow to make up for it, I wonder how the faster Los Ganados of RE4 carry over. Still I prefer pretty much any of the console versions It just wasn't the same without quality voice acting masterly delivery such timeless lines like "That was too close. You were almost a Jill sandwich" and "Here, take this lock pick. I'm sure that you, the master of unlocking, will make use of it."
Sigh, I loves me some Resident Evil, I'll probably buy this despite having both the GC and Wii versions
