Did you hear about the PS3 Slim that fell off the back of the assembly line in Taiwan? Well, actually, the box took the fall, and then the console worked its way free of its cardboard confines, limped out the backdoor unseen, swam a short 700 miles or so south to the Philippines, toweled off, enjoyed a few bottles of lambanog, and promptly passed out under the stall of a electronics vendor. Phew! Guess it was the peddler's lucky day, eh? Unfortunately, our salesman was unable to hustle this miraculous merchandise into the hands of a wary shopper; who did, however, walk away with a brilliantly befuddled cell phone video of the rarity (posted after the break).
Of course, there's an alternate version of the story, too, as an alleged translation of the vendor's pitch puts it: "You won't see this [PS3 Slim] elsewhere because it's still new -- we just got it in. It's not yet available in other countries." The end.
We asked Sony to take a look, and according to a representative, it was the first time she'd seen the video, and then, predictably, she issued the standard company line: "We don't comment on rumor and speculation." So, it's your call. But let us at least advise you against booking a ticket to the Philippines and heading straight for the black market. For anything.
[Thanks to everyone who sent this in!]

Actually, you're the one making a fool of yourself. Adam IS right, in a sort of way. It's just that it's not "Poor quality video = fake", it's more like "Camera shaking all the time and not being able to capture a single steady shot of the new PS3 = fake".

I was generalizing, my point was kind of that if you actually had something that "coveted" on you hands, you might try to actually get a clear shot. It was so poorly shot I had trouble telling if it was any smaller than the regular unit. Anyways, sorry I offended you.

What you guys don't understand is that this is the beginning of 'Cloverfield 2'.

the person recording the video was likely alone, with one hand holding the system and one holding the phone camera. it's not too likely that the guy was paying very much attention, especially IF the owner of the shop didn't want him to recording the exchange. you just simply can't dismiss validity solely because of poor video quality.

It probably is fake. I don't Sony is stupid enough to run a promotion in the Philipphines that says, "Buy the new PS3 slim and get a wife, FREE".

Shaking bad quality cam provessomething and at the same time proves nothing, yeah, it may be fake, but then take into consideration that he may be fliming it himself, alternativly, it could be a secret cam, considering the people who let him see it didn't want him publisizing it like he did. Could be a multitude of different reasons, bad quality doesn't mean fake, otherwise half the videos on youtube would be put into the 'fake' category.

I fact, I remember shaky cam videos of the PS3 before release that people said were fake.
I say the best thing to to is check the internet to see if any popstations look like this PS3.

I love my PS3 just the way it is it's nice and solid. I don't know if it's just the video but it seems kinda flimsy.
Although I'm not sure about this yet if anything I bet this is a modded system. We have offices in Cebu in the phillipeans and I've been to these vendors (not this one specifically) and they have a lot of custome made/modded electronics.

well even if this isn't it, I hope that there is another ps3 coming. because either way one of them will be cheaper. either the phat one will be discounted and clearanced, or sony will pass on the savings in materials with the slim to the customers (yeah, right) and I'll get it cheaper. with the amazing lineup of games recently for ps3, I really want one, but can't afford it. (Im 16, alright, and don't have a job)

I'm trying to guess what you do to get your money. Here's what I've come up with:
1. You collect a nickle for every smug forum post
2. You get paid for giving out advice on wise ways to spend money.
3. You are one of those dudes who services congressmen in dirty bathrooms.
