Tales of Monkey Island sails to strong Steam sales
Telltale's continuation of the Monkey Island series is apparently doing well on Steam. The distribution platform's sales chart shows that the first season pre-order of Mr. Threepwood's latest adventure was the top selling game "by revenue" for the week.
Rounding out the top three sales spots on the service are Street Fighter IV and Fallout 3. If you're sitting on the fence -- made out of the boats LeChuck has sunk -- about purchasing the game, check out our review or the demo first. If you don't own a PC, the Wii version is en route and an Xbox 360 version may be available "later on."

I'll be buying the LucasArts classics before I purchase any of the new Monkey Island games.

This bodes well. Maybe this is the start of the long path to a Mortimer and the Riddles of the Medallion sequel.
Wait... maybe not.
Teabag @ Jul 13th 2009 9:23AM
Awesome. Tales of Monkey Island Episode 1 was really good. If it is the sign of things to come, Jesus be merry, it is going to rock!
Everyone, if you have played Monkey Island or not, adventure games or not, get this one. Worth every penny. And cheaper than most games too.
ryanpaulmcgowan @ Jul 13th 2009 9:24AM
Why is this labeled as "x-box"? Shouldn't it also be labeled as Wii if you're going to label it as anything?
Christopher Grant @ Jul 13th 2009 9:39AM
Righto – I've updated.
Geist @ Jul 13th 2009 9:43AM
It was pretty fun. I played it on PC (where the controls are a little loopy), and had some good times with it. Looking forward to the sequel.
sjames7 @ Jul 13th 2009 9:56AM
Agreed. I am happy with how it turned out, but the controls are bizarre. I'm guessing Telltale was trying to make the controls accessible to newer gamers but they definitely took some getting used to for this old time point-and-click adventure fan.
The controls are really my only complaint and they are not a huge problem.
dark_inchworm (on Steam!) dark inchworm (on XBL!) @ Jul 13th 2009 10:08AM
Yep, can't say I'm fond of the controls either. I'd rather have the point-and-click scheme or even the Grim/EFMI keyboard controls.
LaughingTarget @ Jul 13th 2009 10:17AM
I didn't have much trouble. I got acclimatedto it before finishing the opening segment. I wouldn't want it like Grim. Why? Think of the inventory system. Guybrush keeps everything in his pants. Would you want to get a shot of his crotch every time you looked at your inventory?
dark_inchworm (on Steam!) dark inchworm (on XBL!) @ Jul 13th 2009 10:41AM
Didn't play Escape from Monkey Island, I take it? Unlike Grim, the inventory system basically put the game in the background and shifted a three-dimensional circle of inventory items to the forefront.
I prefer the inventory in Tales, but the movement in Escape. Though I guess combining the two wouldn't actually be practical. I can bear with it as it is; it's not a twitch game, after all.
Sinister Rouge @ Jul 13th 2009 12:54PM
You can use the WASD controls to move... I did. The mouse way of moving was a pain. Other than that, great game!
dark_inchworm (on Steam!) dark inchworm (on XBL!) @ Jul 13th 2009 2:07PM
You can? o.O
To my credit, I've only been able to play for maybe 20 minutes...
Hardy @ Jul 13th 2009 9:55AM
Everyone needs to buy this game so the hopes of remakes/sequels happen with other classic Lucas Arts games, like Grim Fandango!
Bananarama @ Jul 13th 2009 10:50AM
I don't think I would want a sequel to Grim Fandango, but an updated remake would be great. It runs so poorly on my computer, with tons of graphic flaws.
Lonecow @ Jul 13th 2009 10:00AM
Still waiting on the Wii version.
Hurry up NINTENDO!!!!
natureboy46 @ Jul 13th 2009 10:32AM
Will we see the WiiWare version today? Bloody hope so.

I hope this thing breaks the bank so we'll see more of these awesome games.
Episodic Day Of The Tentacle or Full Throttle please!
dark_inchworm (on Steam!) dark inchworm (on XBL!) @ Jul 13th 2009 10:44AM
NO Full Throttle please - Ben's voice actor is dead, and I wouldn't want another lead character or voice actor. Let pleasant memories remain pleasant.
Ok, I'd be open to another lead character, but I can't recall the last time I saw new and interesting character in a game. Call me a skeptic.

Can you spot the grammatical error in my post above???
goddammit
Duke2 @ Jul 13th 2009 10:40AM
I liked the original and the demo was nice, and no, there is NO way I'm going to spend $35 for this.
Patrick @ Jul 13th 2009 9:32PM
"...sails to strong Steam sales"
That's quite a tongue-twister. Try saying it quickly five times.
Gibbeynater @ Jul 13th 2009 11:10AM
I wonder who's buying this through Steam. You don't get any of the bonuses that Telltale offers, and you're technically paying MORE for it (4 cents, but still).
Shagittarius @ Jul 13th 2009 11:28AM
Bought mine through tell-tale because they mail you a DVD when the series is complete.
Daniel Cohen @ Jul 13th 2009 5:08PM
plenty of people it seems. Someone on the forums whined for 2 pages because it wasn't announced beforehand that it would be on steam, so they bought it directly from telltale only to find it on steam >_
Sinister Rouge @ Jul 13th 2009 12:57PM
Hey Shag, I wondered if you were going to do that. I remembered you citing no disc (I know you like that collection) as a reason for not getting the game. Great deal with the free (except for shipping) DVD when the season finishes, isn't it?
Shagittarius @ Jul 13th 2009 1:59PM
Yeah I don't have to wait till they finish the season, thanks for the tip.
Andrew Timson @ Jul 13th 2009 11:45PM
I bought it from Steam; I don't want to pay for a disc, and it's worth $0.04 to have all my downloads in one place. As for the free episode, I already own all of Sam and Max, and didn't really care about Wallace and Grommit or Strongbad, so being forced to get Wallace 1 instead of my choice really isn't a problem as far as I'm concerned. :)
gayboyDS @ Jul 13th 2009 11:45AM
BRING BACK LEISURE SUIT LARRY TO THE WII!!!
(Please!!)
James @ Jul 13th 2009 1:22PM
I'm one of the people who bought the package deal and have to say I encourage others to do so. I don't wholly love the episodic approach to point and click games, but the quality's definitely there so I'll overlook the lack of quantity. :)
BigD145 @ Jul 13th 2009 1:45PM
It crashed on my while walking the forest maze. That's usually a bad sign.
