And the DLC just keeps coming.
Heres hoping MW2 gets the support that Bethesda puts into their games.
Platinum_Skeet @ Jul 14th 2009 11:47AM
With them steadily pumping DLC like this the games staying new for months after the release. If more games took this model you could end up playing your favorite game for 1 or 2 years until the full sequel comes out...
GENIUS
Prox @ Jul 14th 2009 12:21PM
FYI, this is the last planned Fallout 3 DLC.
Prox @ Jul 14th 2009 1:14PM
Wtf? Am I wrong? Is there more stuff on the way later?
Brackynews @ Jul 14th 2009 1:14PM
@Platinum_Skeet, funny how that rather excellent strategy is working well for Bethesda and not so much for Valve.
*insert Burnout Paradise praise here*
Captain Planet @ Jul 14th 2009 1:14PM
Wait...where the fuck did the aliens come from?
Fucking hell, I need to go buy this game again.
Nerdy Desi @ Jul 14th 2009 1:15PM
Maybe you got voted down because they don't want to believe Zeta is the last DLC. : )
I don't think Bethesda has said anything, I had assumed Broken Steel was the last DLC but nope.
Prox @ Jul 14th 2009 2:06PM
I think you might be right, Desi.
From http://fallout.bethsoft.com/eng/home/home.php?fbid=UYRhyCRvQxl:
"We’ve released the first screenshots for our upcoming DLC, Mothership Zeta, as well as info on what you can expect from our 5th and final DLC for Fallout 3. Mothership Zeta will be released August 3rd on Xbox Live and Games for Windows Live for 800 points, and will be released at a later date for PlayStation 3."
The Dark Wayne @ Jul 14th 2009 3:15PM
the aliens came from space obviously, Cpt Planet. Also there's an unmarked crash site in the regular game where you can find a destroyed ship, a radio signal from it, a dead alien, and a very powerful alien gun and some ammo. There's also a random encounter where a ship crashes out of the sky and explodes in midair spewing another alien gun named Firelance and ammo all over

Bethesda rocks, I don't care what anyone says.
JXCgunrunna @ Jul 14th 2009 11:35AM
They are some of the best devs out there but i would really like to see some motion capture in their games. Their third person animations are worse than the ones on Mario 64, a games that while was ahead of its time, still came out 13 years ago.
dark_inchworm (on Steam!) dark inchworm (on XBL!) @ Jul 14th 2009 11:35AM
Certainly! I find it odd that most of the DLC takes place far outside of the area the game is based in, though. Granted, something may be flying right over my head, given that I've only played the game for a few minutes.
XBL: Burritoclock PSN:Herbie Hat @ Jul 14th 2009 12:08PM
Legend has it there is a crashed space ship out in the waste somewhere...
Yeah, the animations in their games are.... well they are awful, but I can forgive them for that considering everything else they get right.
Would be nice to hear someone from Bethesda explain why they let the owners 12 year old daughter do all the walking animations...
arkweld @ Jul 14th 2009 1:36PM
They got everything else right?
Bethesda couldn't design a GUI for PCs if they had an instruction book in front of them.
Fallout like Oblivion is "console friendly" which means "Dumbed down for PCs" - type the size of billboards, barely any information is given about items, no way to see your inventory without endless button presses, a scroll wheel that can't be mapped for anything useful ... the list is so long it's easier to read the user mod release notes that people have to create to fix Bethesda's lazy porting.
Zinger314 @ Jul 14th 2009 11:33AM
Fingers crossed for Elvis.
Ian @ Jul 14th 2009 12:29PM
I came here to post this.
DBuck_Eye @ Jul 14th 2009 12:45PM
I hope they don't include Chuck Norris. His roundhouse kick would automatically kill all the aliens, making for some rather short DLC.
JXCgunrunna @ Jul 14th 2009 12:54PM
dicks crossed for Micheal Jackson. Is it too soon?
Silencio @ Jul 14th 2009 3:16PM
@jxc
It's always too soon to say dicks crossed. Wtf?
BigD145 @ Jul 14th 2009 7:00PM
Hell no, MJ.
Gilbert Palau @ Jul 15th 2009 12:52AM
I wouldn't be surprised if we found Michael Jackson moonwalking somewher in the ship
EasterSmoot @ Jul 15th 2009 2:20AM
Is it weird I assumed you were talking about Elvis from Perfect Dark instead of Elvis Presley
Killimus @ Jul 15th 2009 3:01AM
@EasterSmoot
I has the same thought myself lmao.
Nerdy Desi @ Jul 14th 2009 11:35AM
Next DLC should explore the West Coast setting in Fallout 1 and 2. Please? : )
Chris Miller @ Jul 14th 2009 12:36PM
Something like that wouldn't be DLC, but more than likely a new game altogether. We'll have to wait and see what Fallout: New Vegas brings :D
Alphathon @ Jul 14th 2009 12:48PM
That, and this is the last DLC they are doing
Nerdy Desi @ Jul 14th 2009 12:59PM
Yeah, Fallout: New Vegas will also be developed by some of the Fallout 1/2 staff so I'm very excited to see what happens. : D
Damian @ Jul 14th 2009 1:39PM
Why the hell were you downvoted?
David @ Jul 14th 2009 5:25PM
Off-topic:
@Nerdy Desi: I read one of your post, and I was just wondering why you didnt play any games online... at all...?
WINterfang @ Jul 14th 2009 11:35AM
Sounds interesting, is this game better than Mass Effect?
JXCgunrunna @ Jul 14th 2009 11:36AM
Story wise, no. Game play, I would say so.
Marty @ Jul 14th 2009 11:38AM
The two are such different styles of game, it would be hard to compare them. They are both top-notch experiences though, so give them a try. Mass Effect should be the cheaper of the two right now, but both can take 50-100+ hours to finish if you decide to do everything each game has to offer.
tmacairjordan87 @ Jul 14th 2009 11:47AM
It took me about 35 hours to do 100% on Mass Effect my first time through, but unless you're achievement whoring or really really interested in everything about the world, there's really no reason to explore every planet. The side missions are painfully boring.
The Baron @ Jul 14th 2009 11:51AM
Fallout's open-world approach makes the 'create your own gameplay' work out very very well. Thematically and in terms of the characters, I preferred Mass Effect - it was like a well-crafted movie.
Silencio @ Jul 14th 2009 3:43PM
@tmac
I don't think you can complete 100% on one playthrough.
Dan @ Jul 14th 2009 5:12PM
As a big fan of Bioware I still completely dislike Mass Effect.
I played both original Fallouts as well, so I know what I'm talking about.
Fallout 3 is better, hands down.
Mass Effect has clunky menus, annoying frame rate issues/graphic issues, completely copy & pasted environments and interiors. It lacks any real rewarding exploration (all the planets are the same, just in a different color/different bumpy landscape) Mass Effect was far worse than KOTOR, and doesn't stack up against FO3.
Travis @ Jul 14th 2009 11:35AM
it's likely to be a president, like Lincoln. The whole game runs with those types of characters. The game's timeframe disallows Elvis or any huge musicians.
Ian @ Jul 14th 2009 12:31PM
Fallout 3 takes place in a post-apocalyptic, retro-futurist Washington D.C. and parts of Maryland and Virginia in the year 2277 after a world war over resources which ended in nuclear holocaust in 2077
How does that disallow Elvis?
WREturns @ Jul 14th 2009 12:52PM
C'mon, Ian. We all know that Elvis HATED nuclear fallout. Duh.
LaughingTarget @ Jul 14th 2009 12:59PM
The point of convergence was the late 1940s from out timeline where art, architecture and music basically locked into a constant. Hence vehicle, building and music selections. Elvis came after this and his style of music never became popular, leaving him with a likely short and completely unknown career. The same goes for other performers after that period. It is unlikely groups like Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, Motorhead, (thankfully) boy bands or most other post-WW2 music styles ever developed.
Courtney @ Jul 14th 2009 2:17PM
But, as these are aliens, it doesn't prevent them from kidnapping Elvis from an alternate timeline where his existence does make sense and spreading his majesty across the policosm.
Sly @ Jul 14th 2009 3:36PM
NO ZEPPELIN?
it really was a hell hole then...
freyyr890 @ Jul 14th 2009 4:16PM
@LaughingTarget: Actually, the Fallout series is meant to be a "world of tomorrow" looking from about the mid fifties. Rock and roll existed, but it was frowned upon by the older generation who preferred jazz. It was also thought improper: Rock 'n' Roll was the "negro term" for sex. Rock 'n' roll was more of a baby boom thing from the late fifties onward. Listen to any internet radio fifties station, and you'll hear lots of jazz and blues and very little rock.
So yes, we could conceivably see Elvis.
Marty @ Jul 14th 2009 11:36AM
I've yet to play any of the DLC. Has any of it been worth buying yet? Have they got all the glitches sorted out yet?
mitchellgreen @ Jul 14th 2009 11:45AM
The best way I've heard it summed up.
The Pitt-Totally worth it, good new atmosphere, neat stuff.
Anchorage- Skip, basic boring squad shooter
Broken Steel- Level 30 dude, plus its pretty fun.
Have not played point lookout yet, but apparently its pretty good.
Danthok @ Jul 14th 2009 11:46AM
This is my question as well. Approximately how long is game play for each of the DLC packs?
tmacairjordan87 @ Jul 14th 2009 12:03PM
Anchorage is only a couple hours long, and it's ok for what it is. It's really good when you're starting a new game and you're only a couple hours in, cause you can do it (since it's a sim, there's no gear requirements) and when you finish you walk away with badass armor and a Gauss rifle. Really helps make the beginning easier.
The Pitt is a bit longer than OA, but it doesn't give you much in terms of new stuff. It's a decent DLC though.
Broken Steel is obviously the best. New weapons, 10 levels, perks, new end game content. It's about 5-7 hours
Point Lookout gives you a whole new land with quite a bit to explore. Lasts about 5-7 hours and it feels like the main fallout game in terms of exploring new areas. Not much in terms of new weapons or gear though.
Rufus @ Jul 14th 2009 11:42AM
This is game by far, one of the best games (not just RPGs) ever made. It's immersive, creepy, action-packed and just pure fun/ Every single DLC has it's own merits and flaws, but the pros far outweigh the latter.
I'm currently working through Broken Steel ('Anchorage was interesting, The Pitt was very cool) and I can't wait to play Point Lookout, and then finally 'Zeta).
Fallout 3 has kept me going since Christmas, and has far-outlasted Fable II.
tmacairjordan87 @ Jul 14th 2009 11:45AM
I hope there's a giant city in the ship or something, cause it doesn't seem like it'll be that big. Anyway I'm still excited for it, but I'm hoping the next DLC lets us go to the Commonwealth or even Rockopolis (think that's what it's called).
YoRone22 @ Jul 14th 2009 12:01PM
You can go to Rockopolis. There is a bobble head there.
