Fallout's open-world approach makes the 'create your own gameplay' work out very very well. Thematically and in terms of the characters, I preferred Mass Effect - it was like a well-crafted movie.

Is it just me who feels like $10 is a little too much for one or two of these packs? I mean there's 5 of them now, which is basically the original cost of the PC version for less than a quarter of the content.

And yes I'm aware that they're optional. Just saying that what you pay doesn't seem to equal what you get.

You purchase it through Microsoft's Games for Windows LIVE Store, I hope they'll sell more DLC in the future like for GTA4. : )

I stopped buy DLC after Broken Steal (the only DLC actually worth $10)

Seriously, its getting ridiculous, $10 for 3 extra hours of play and 100 points, its not worth it and at some point you will realize that you have spent an extra $50 on content that should have been in the game to begin with

It should not have been in the game to begin with, because they made this after the game was released.
I am tired of people complaining about dlc, it is optional, you are already getting a 100 hour game,so dont say this should have been included in the first place.

All the dlc has been good, maybe 1 or 2 were a little pricy, like anchorage, but you get the chinese sneak armour with anchorage, which i always use.

"Should" is an odd term...

Did you feel that the main game was short or incomplete (ending aside, and I'd be glad to argue that the original ending was FINE)

If you stand up all the end-content to the main game, and try to buy it at once, yes, its shorter than 50 bucks of what the main game buys you. And its probably why those of my friends who picked up Fallout 3 late aren't getting the content unless it goes on sale, or their like my other friends who desperately WANT to play the game, but are waiting for the "gold" edition to come out this fall/winter/whenever.

So, yes, I paid full for every content pack, and you can argue I got "ripped off" but yet I don't feel ripped off. Sure, they're 10 bucks, but they've generally worked out to be a weekends worth of entertainment every time since I play them for a couple hours in a non-time-competitive fashion, take a break, and pick up the rest the next day or two. So, better than a movie ticket, generally.

I feel like I've gotten my money's worth out of what was a great and enjoyable game, and I enjoy coming back to it every month or so.

My first play through of fallout 3 without DLC, was around 75 hours and I didn't even do everything since I had about 20 locations on my map undiscovered (no fun exploring when you're level 20). So let's stop with this "should have been in the game" bullshit, because there's already more content in Fallout 3 than every game this gen other than, well...that other Bethesda game ;)

This is why I'm waiting for the GOTY edition that's coming out this October. I haven't played Fallout 3 at all yet. So even though I'll spend the same $60, I'll get all five DLC for free.

So everyone's cool when bethesda releases $50 worth of DLC in less than a year, but when Valve announces the L4D2 release date a year after it comes out, everyone goes apeshit.

Valve's DLC adds the same ammount of gameplay that Bethesdas do (give or take)... yet they cost 2x as much, and take YEARS to complete. L4D2 is a sequel also, not DLC/Add-On to an existing game.

I don't know Tmac. The new Left4Dead isn't just the same game with different levels. They're adding new characters, new weapons and new special zombies. Even the game itself is built on a more robust engine. You actually do area-specific damage depending on where you shoot the zombies now. Fallout, as much as I love it, is just adding more to the same engine. You're playing as the same character, and you're just doing the same basic things in order to get a new weapon or extra xp. Even that Mothership Zeta screenshot can't escape the pastiness of Earth's palette scheme.

That is a different situation entirely. L4D2 is a sequel, not an expansion. The community is angry because they're afraid that it will alienate the people who bought the original. The feeling is that everyone will jump ship to the sequel, and that Valve will not give their full attention to the original which came out not too long ago.

The L4D problem does not apply to Fallout.

I've bought every DLC pack for Fallout 3 and each rocked. I admit The Pitt was the least worthwhile of the bunch (Operation Anchorage TOTALLY worth buying because of the Chinese Stealth Armor alone, IMO).

So $10.. can I just trade you a Deathclaw hand, Tesla Armor and one Fat Man? That way I'm set for more DLC, if any more comes along..

Ha. Just started the Point Lookout DLC. 3 Hillbillies took me out right quick. I think I’ll take the ferry back to DC and try to level up a bit first. (Went there with my level 6 unarmed neutral character.) Thinking I’ll go to Tenpenny, do the ghoul quest and then do Daring Dashwood’s sidequest.

By the time I actually finish all of the other DLC, I guess this will be ready for me.

It's great to see the designers and creators behind the game just throwing ideas in the bag and pulling one out. Here's hoping the next one is a 'Journey to the Center of the Earth' type.

there have been aliens or at least alien ships and skeletons in all three fallout games. I dont see the problem here, you act like alien abduction is outlandish in a world of a giant green men, human headed tentacle face things, 9ft Chameleons, Power Armor and laser guns!

I thought all the alien aspects were goofy.

"I don't see the problem here"

I didn't realize any opinion other than your constituded a problem. No problem other than I personally think it's goofy. If you enjoy it then more power to you.

All the other stuff you mentioned is made possible by nuclear fallout and fictional military tech.

I just think Alien abuduction is a a little out there even by Fallout standards. Plus it doesn't fit into the post-apocloptic story at all.

Since there are aliens throughout the main game it shouldn't be so surprising to you that they add more. Oh and saying,

"All the other stuff you mentioned is made possible by nuclear fallout and fictional military tech."

doesn't really make it more believable than an alien abduction. This whole game could be characterized as "goofy" if someone wanted to find fault. I don't really see why a third alien spaceship is the tipping point for you.

Hey, there's a crashed alien saucer in the Capital Wasteland (has one of the best guns, the Alien Blaster) so obviously more aliens are tooling around elsewhere.

To those who haven't played it, Fallout 3 rocks. I actually think it is the best videogame ever made, period, and the expansions are like icing on the cake.

Can I ask you something? I'm really interested in playing Fallout 3 but it seems soooo overwhelming. I mean where do you start in the game? Do you just go wherever you want? How do you know where to find weapons, armor, etc.? Don't you die if you are a high enough level? It's things like that kinda scare me from playing the game.

little late so you probably wont see this, but the game does have quests with objectives that tell you where to go. When you first start out youll have to walk there and along the way youll undoubtedly come across other map locations and other unmarked stuff like random encounters with raiders and stuff. You can get lots of stuff from vendors, but the best gear is from wandering around the wasteland or fighting the main quest and killing enemies and taking it from them. It's a lot easier than youd think, if it isnt you can jsut set it to easy

As a big fan of Bioware I still completely dislike Mass Effect.
I played both original Fallouts as well, so I know what I'm talking about.

Fallout 3 is better, hands down.
Mass Effect has clunky menus, annoying frame rate issues/graphic issues, completely copy & pasted environments and interiors. It lacks any real rewarding exploration (all the planets are the same, just in a different color/different bumpy landscape) Mass Effect was far worse than KOTOR, and doesn't stack up against FO3.

I'm a little worried about balancing issues for 2 reasons:
1) The alien blaster is very powerful, how will you be able to explore the ship without dozens of little alien guys shooting them at you and killing you very quickly. Will you need tons of stimpacks and very high DR? I doubt you will be using your own guns much (ammo on an alien ship?) if you even get to take them with you...and how will you repair your armor...
2) If you get to take a bunch of crazy alien pistols/rifles etc back with you (and ammo!), it removes the main weakness of the alien gun (limited ammo, you had to strategize whether an enemy was worth the shot...) so you can use it alot and tear through the enemies in the game making it way too easy. (although most people will have finished the game by now). Of course that could be fun too...
