Though we have no idea the kind of hurt that a game that comes with night vision goggles will put on our wallets (and we will allow that hurt, make no mistake), we have a price for the Hardened Edition, the name of which is easy to remember, as the box in which it is contained is hard, like metal.
Besides the steel game case, you'll get an art book and Call of Duty Classic on XBLA or PSN all for $80, according to Infinity Ward spokesman Robert Bowling's Twitter feed.
Also, anyone notice anything missing from the Hardened box? Any ... words specifically?

Strangely enough, after release of this special bundle there is an increase of gamestop robberies between the hours of 10pm-4am.

It has been said before. The people who spend 80 + dollars on a game already know this is Infinity Ward and the sequal to CoD4. The Call of Duty name will sell it to the same parents that buy their kid every Halo game, Mario sports game, and anything with Wii in the title.

I'm sorry, I just don't picture too many parents, especially the ones also buying Mario games and titles with "Wii" in them, going out to purchase games in the "Call of Duty" franchise.
I think COD might be the single highest selling *pure* core gamer purchase.; a good 3/4th of the totality of the sales going to gaming purists.

I was actually stereotyping those parents. I am saying if at age 9 the kid gets wii sports, 11 the kid gets MKW, and at 13 the kid gets halo, then at 15 the kids going to get call of duty. Parents that know their son/daughter likes those games will buy it for them as long as the game doesnt show up in the media as something that will scare their kid(GTA)

I don't need no stinkin' Call of Duty on my Modern Warfare.

Yeah, noticed the "Call of Duty" missing from that video the other day. Though $80 bucks isn't worth it for me. It's that much probably for the $60 game, then maybe $10-$15 when the original Call of Duty comes out on arcade.
And the night vision has to be just LED lights. There is no way they will let people get their hands on equipment like that. I could see the news reports going "*sigh* yet another man robbed a house last night using MW2 night vision goggles."

Night vision goggles are readily available in many catalogs, all over the internet, and in many army surplus stores. Night Vision is a mode on many consumer cameras sold at best buy and wal-mart.....

Do a search on amazon for the eyeclops night vision goggles for kids. The infrared light ring should look familiar to anyone who watched the unboxing video. The product listing will give you an idea of what kind of "functioning" night vision goggles will come with MW2

So in other words, buy the $60 version kids and save up for the real deal, hopefully you can afford them before your hot neighbor moves away.

i don't really doubt that they are real night vision goggles. what i do doubt is that they are anything more than a novelty considering high quality night vision can get very expensive. i've used night vision monoculars before that cost well over $100 and they were pretty useless. the ones in the legendary edition are probably low quality night vision with a ton of IR LED's so that it just looks much brighter in the dark.

This my just by my eye's picking this up cause I'm graphic designer, but there's not enough space between the words 'Modern Warfare 2' and the edge of the packaging!

Yeah, it's annoying being graphically minded sometimes isn't...kinda like being a grammar nazi. Unfortunatelly I am both *sigh*. So much of the world offends my eyes :(. (Incidentally, I am not proud of my garammar naziism, but am of my graphical perfectionism. Weird no?)

I'd wait till the original digital copy is priced before investing in something that includes it as an incentive.

It seems to me like collector's editions only became commonplace in the console realm after this most recent generation started. I doubt they had any serious bearing on prices jumping.

Some special editions are worth getting, like the one with the vault tec bobblehead, or the big daddy figure,or the brotherhood of steel figure.
If you want the game, get the normal edition, if you want a little something extra, get the limited edition.

Umm. Wrong. It requires more resources to produce games for this generation, that's why there was a $10 increase.

No, the now common practice of selling high end systems at a loss and then recovering those losses on software sales is what's making retail game prices go up. Especially now when everyone wants the best technology without having to pay for it.

dude stop sounding like such a tight wad. with the economy as bad as it is nowadays its no wonder that prices will be like that.

Also, everyone seems to forget that in the late 80s and early 90s games cost 50-60 bucks. No different than they are now. I remember paying 60 bucks at best buy for new copies of certain Super Nintendo games. Take inflation into account, and the fact that there's plenty of new games released in the 30-40 dollar range, and prices really aren't even increasing at all.

Special edition games are not what made the games "go up" to $60. I say "go up" because some of you kids don't realize what Nintendo was charging for N64 games. Games cost more than they did last generation because of Sony and Microsoft taking more money per title since they sunk millions into developing these consoles and sell them at a loss most of the time.

So they're following the Halo 3 route and releasing two collector's editions, then? I partially understand why they may do that, but... from the consumer point of view, if you're going to buy something for the sake of collecting, why not go all-out and step up to the Prestige edition?

Some people like having the metal cases, but really have no need for fully operational night vision goggles.
No, I don't know any of those people.
