Relentless Software penning the Blue Toad Murder Files for PSN

This is Relentless' first self-published game, and the team is clearly excited to work on a non-trivia project. Executive Director, David Amor, told us, "We're really excited to be self publishing this. The murder mystery genre has been a staple in TV, books and movies for years and we think we've come up with a great videogame interpretation." If it's like Professor Layton meets ... uh, murder, we're game.

When I heard the name on Twitter, I had an image in my mind of some sort of Super Mario Bros. cartoon spin-off, with Toad starting up his own detective agency and investigating various mysteries around the Mushroom Kingdom. It would probably make a better game, too. I'd pitch it as Super Mario Bros. meets Professor Layton.

Hopefully this will be better than the Agatha Christie Wii games.

Or a Murder She Wrote game, love to see the jowls motion captured.

Angela Lansbury is still alive and kicking on Broadway, so she's available, albeit a bit old now to pass for the way she looked in Murder She Wrote.

Nice, just seen in the above "More from Joystiq" section Murder She Wrote and House games are coming. Didn't know about MSW.

To h*ll with Agatha Christie/Murder She Wrote, I'm waiting for the inevitable Ironside and Diagnosis Murder games-------On-topic, I'm going wait for more details on this Blue Frog Murder Files before getting excited.

I cannot believe I wrote Blue 'Frog' Murder Files, I'm so stupid.

Heavy Rain may lead the way for more games like this, and with some PSN games lately show casing what can be done, they may even be of the same high degree...or least as close as possible.
Wil lwait for more information before getting excited thou.

Checking out the official site for this game, it appears not to be serious like Heavy Rain, but closer to a casual, approachable, family-friendly mystery title along the lines of the Agatha Christie Wii games, or the Women's Murder Club: Games of Passion games.
I'm really looking forward to Heavy Rain, but I don't think this is anywhere near the same ball-park. It is developed by the same team that makes the casual Buzz game-show titles. Don't expect this to be gritty or realistic.
Ashitaka @ Jul 14th 2009 12:26PM
Without forgetting that Heavy Rain is on the way, I agree that this could be really good, we do need more murder mystery games.

I'm down with more murder mystery games.
I saw a board game a couple of years ago that I meant to buy, but now I can't remember the name of it. It was like clue, except that structure of the house wasn't set. You all started in one room with multiple exits. When you opened a door, you randomly picked out another piece of the house, and that became the next room. So you got to explore and discover the structure of the house everytime, and not every room/item/character might appear in every playthrough. Something like that seems like it might work well in a digital mystery game.
