Dave Perry talks Gaikai: 'Gamestop already hate me'

Speaking at the Develop conference currently taking place in the UK, Gaikai's Dave Perry told Edge that the folks at video game retailer GameStop "already hate" him. "I've made so much money from their store [GameStop], so I can't be mean to them about that," he apologetically added, though he said he believes the industry is being pushed to digital distribution by GameStop's used game business model.

He doesn't necessarily see brick-and-mortar retail as his company's biggest hurdle though, saying, unsurprisingly, it's thesmoke money. "We need to find a strategic partner who will add value ... somebody that wants to invest and can actually add something ... we want to find somebody who will really move the needle." Wait a minute -- Gaikai involves needles? Forget it!

No, -Vexx-, it was totally intentional. Was just trying to drop something more humorous than a plain jane image of the Gaikai marketing. Soooooorrrrry. We're not "starting" anything again though, just throwing out an Easter Egg for fun.

DSG!! we've missed you.
anyways, while i'm ok with DD for portable's i still havent come to see it in consoles. (especially considering the ps3's disc storage capability.) i think for the time being, this only applies to pc gaming and xbox/wii.
i do love me some physical discs when dropping that much cash though.

Joystiq talks as much trash about EA as the rest of us. They just took some box art and turned it into a one day scavenger hunt/meme. The majority of this found it amusing and a welcome change of pace, but other people chose to throw a hissy fit over something that doesn't affect them in the least.

DWells55, talk about a forced meme.
Nerdy Desi, pfft, please, I'm just waiting for western games like Scribblenauts and Dementium II. Besides, I prefer Wizardry-style, instead of FF style, in my RPG's. For the record, I'm a DOOM fanboy.

@Dale: I don't understand your comment. If you're correcting Professor Lario, then shouldn't you be saying "Gamestop _are_ a collection of people", since he was questioning the use of _are_ instead of _is_? Ir you're not correcting him, then why the comment, since it's obvious that Gamestop is indeed a collection of people?

As far as I'm concerned, both Gamestop and Dave Perry can give each other hand jobs all day but it won't change the fact that
A) Dave Perry is a çunt of the highest order.
B) Every time GameStop sells a used copy of any EA Sports title, God kills a kitten.

And now, exhibit B, amigo:

We've just recently had a few Gaikai stories so it may be fresh in your mindgrapes still. The posts are literally 3:1 in terms of coverage of OnLive over Gaikai. To be perfectly honest, as Dave Perry says in the interview source from the piece above, Gaikai hasn't started marketing at all -- literally zero dollars -- so there's been very little coverage on it because they haven't released any news on it or been speaking to the press. We've had a hands-on with OnLive twice and interviewed the president of the service.
This week, however, the Develop Conference is taking place in the UK and Dave Perry is a keynote speaker there. Thus, Gaikai coverage. Voila ici!

I'm not fully sure what the hell Dave is doing I need someone to explain whatever he is doing in basic English. Secondly other than Matrix none of his games sold. Thirdly the collector and obsessive need actual retail packs.

He's wrong ... I buy more games because I can get value for my used games. If I can't sell my old games, I will buy less games. I'm hardly the only person that handles their purchases in such a manner.
Basically, developers/publishers want us to buy their product, but not own anything -- in reality, we're leasing a game until they decide to change the DRM or the like and block us from using it.
Would it really be fair for someone to buy a book and not be able to share it with a family member or friend? Welcome to digital distribution. Games going digital will fuel a precipitous decline in sales that will snowball if they keep the prices at $50 or $60 a game. The reason is, people have limited discretionary income - getting $20 for a used game makes a pretty big difference. If i'm selling 3 games to buy one new one, I've now bought 4 games. If I can't sell the 3, I pass on the fourth. That's a 25% decline in sales.
Just something to think about.
