Dragon Age: Origins special edition offers Mass Effect 2 freebies

If you buy the thing from GameStop, you get even more in-game junk: a Feral Wolf Charm, that increases health regeneration, and a Memory Ring, which boosts experience accumulation. The best part of all these virtual goodies? They don't require head-shaped stands.

I'm getting tired of in-game items being part of Special Editions.
Doc Doom @ Jul 15th 2009 6:04PM
Yeah, me too. But a cloth map is pretty great, regardless.
Drew -- PS360: uphillbothways @ Jul 15th 2009 6:07PM
I agree that a cloth map is sweet. I just don't like when "Bonus" content, that you have to pay for and that you can miss out on if you decide to buy the game a year later, can change a game.
Doc Doom @ Jul 15th 2009 6:10PM
Yeah, I'm quite miffed that The Juggernaut is a pre-order bonus in Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2. I know it's just an extra character, but it's still irritating.
Sly @ Jul 15th 2009 6:37PM
Do you know who I am? I'M THE JUGGERNAUT, BITCH!
that's my favorite quote of all time.
Doc Doom @ Jul 15th 2009 6:44PM
SHUT THE FUCK UP, CHARLES!
The Dark Wayne @ Jul 15th 2009 6:58PM
i didnt mind special guns like in BFBC or even just ones that you can unlock anyway, but new characters and quests? If they mean new party members that's fucking awful, but i guess ill be buying it despite my qualms because i dont wanna miss out on one bit of mass effect or DAO
Drew -- PS360: uphillbothways @ Jul 15th 2009 7:01PM
Git outta my hed!!
Drew -- PS360: uphillbothways @ Jul 15th 2009 7:05PM
Or more probably: "Git outta mai hed!!!"
Juggernaut - The original Lolcat.
I can has pimp cane?
HitNRun @ Jul 16th 2009 1:06AM
I'm glad you don't need to go to Gamestop to get the cloth map. That's all I care about, really.
And I wouldn't fret the in-game stuff, it'll be available somewhere for download somewhere about 4 and a half hours after the game comes out.
Unless you're planning on playing this particular game on a console, but that's just crazy talk. ;)
Nerdy Desi @ Jul 15th 2009 6:03PM
I hate Special Editions, they make me poor. Damn you psychology!
Captain Planet @ Jul 15th 2009 6:03PM
Hopefully it's not a shotgun.
WREturns @ Jul 15th 2009 6:08PM
I bet it's a dragon!
MystileArmor @ Jul 15th 2009 6:07PM
Giving an ingame item for Dragon Age along with it, ok.. I suppose so. But an item for a completely different game? That's just fucked up.
The Dark Wang @ Jul 15th 2009 6:31PM
On the ps3 special edition on gamestop.com it says that the Mass Effect 2 in-game item comes with it. ME2 confirmed for ps3?
AoE @ Jul 15th 2009 9:04PM
@The Dark Wang,
EA owns Bioware now. That means Mass Effect on everything with a screen.
VampireHunter Z @ Jul 16th 2009 12:55PM
The only thing is that Bioware actually makes quality games. People buying both games shouldn't be a surprize. I think only a few companies can do this and it's cool. Bioware is one of them. And of course Capcom who dominates my game collection.
mike smith @ Jul 15th 2009 6:08PM
Guaranteed in-game item: A huge stinking pile of Dragon Shit.
Epic.
Drew -- PS360: uphillbothways @ Jul 15th 2009 6:11PM
Coming up at 10 only on Fox -
XcrementBox: Is a game console feeding your children shit?
Captain Planet @ Jul 15th 2009 6:14PM
...but coming up now, a pig that refuses to eat Jews?
Stix Remix @ Jul 15th 2009 6:16PM
Did anyone else notice that the image of the dragon's elbow and belly changes in all three pics?
devilsei @ Jul 15th 2009 6:20PM
Am I the only one who sees the idea of offering something special for ANOTHER game in this game's collector's edition as bit of a dick move?
Its like Activision saying "Hey, pre-order WotLK's Collector Edition (just an example), and get FROSTMOURNE Free!! For the Wolverine Game."
Vcize @ Jul 15th 2009 9:45PM
Yeah, in fact I'll go one better and say it's a REALLY dickish move.
In-game items for the game you're buying, ok I can deal with that, people that really love the game will pay for it. But forcing people that really love the game to buy something ELSE to get everything for the game they actually love? Lame.
Kamal @ Jul 15th 2009 6:26PM
I don't like the direction these "tie-ins" are headed. Let the game speak for itself instead of getting fans of another game buy it just so they can get a "freebie."
Old_Snake @ Jul 15th 2009 6:29PM
Just thought I would mention that in the Kotaku and Destructoid articles that the PS3 is also getting the CE. Just thought I would say that since the PS tag isn't one this post
Einhanderkiller @ Jul 15th 2009 6:36PM
Cause the title is about the Mass Effect 2 freebies, I guess.
Old_Snake @ Jul 15th 2009 6:39PM
Oh yeah, I guess that's why
Lilpunkduck @ Jul 15th 2009 6:39PM
Major dickmove, I bought the crap-ish iphone game, i dont need to buy another as a CE edition. Seriously not touching this, I think they should just give the same stuff different ways. IE a couple of games with it as a bonus in the standard edition to get people into their game rather than pissed off.
Alex Padilla @ Jul 15th 2009 6:46PM
Dragon Age: Origins will be awesome, and so will ME2. Great combo, but rather expensive.
LaughingTarget @ Jul 15th 2009 7:11PM
Regular edition for me. $15 for a cloth map and the same crap everyone else dumps in their "special" editions is a rip. Sorry, I don't think $15 is worth the convenience of having them rip the music out of the install file for me and some lame documentary of them walking around a development office with a handheld camera.
Call me when these guys get serious about "special" editions, like the stuff Working Designs did back in the day or even the Fallout 3 Lunch Box.
Noky @ Aug 12th 2009 1:18PM
Wow, exactly what I was thinking. I really feel like Working Designs was the last company that knew what a Special/Collector's Edition should be.
In the end, the price difference between the standard and collector's edition is $15, so if you buy everything seperately the only thing you'll really miss out on is the cloth map -- lord knows the soundtrack and videos will be thrown all over the web on day one.
AwesomeTown @ Jul 15th 2009 7:24PM
Sigh, I still don't know what platform to buy it on. The only one that will get my friends involved is the 360, but I want PC.
Oh well, either way, can't wait.
Shane @ Jul 15th 2009 7:59PM
Damn that's a lot of swag. I too hate cross game tie-ins. The one of late that has me the most ticked is AC2. Something about having to by the PSP version to get in-game weapons for AC2.
I'll be buying this one just because that's a ton of crap. If it's anything like the Fable stuff though, no one will miss it.
I don't care for the extra XP ring. Kinda takes the fun out of leveling.
Shane @ Jul 15th 2009 8:16PM
Test
Shane @ Jul 15th 2009 8:18PM
This is great!
Benjamin T.E. @ Jul 15th 2009 9:08PM
Just pre-ordered it! The XP-boosting Memory Ring sounds pretty cool, IMO.
Samael @ Jul 15th 2009 10:03PM
Well I for one will be getting this. The XP boosting ring will be stupid and be useless very soon as you will run out of slots and will want to put on a better ring soon. Its the CLOTH MAP that has me excited. I will be getting this for the PC, but will be getting ME2 for XBOX so does that mean that I wont get the ME2 bonus??
K1LLER HORNET @ Jul 15th 2009 10:16PM
i guess so.
what you should do is buy it for the XBOX 360 & just download the PC version.
best of both worlds : )
Lennoko @ Jul 15th 2009 11:40PM
Just because you buy a game for one platform...doesnt mean you have the right to it across all platforms...yarr.
Rukasu @ Jul 22nd 2009 2:57PM
I'm a sucker for tin cases.
Samael @ Jul 16th 2009 12:19AM
well I would want the original of DAO for two reasons, first multiplayer and player created content, second BioWare is a company that I have always supported and believe that they deserve every penny I spend on them.
Elmoogle @ Jul 16th 2009 1:22AM
So I want to buy this game for PS3, but I'm still going to pick up Mass Effect 2 on the 360. Do I not get the ME2 item just because I bought for the wrong system?
