Invincible Tiger coming in August to XBLA, PSN
When we first discussed kung-fu action game Invincible Tiger: The Legend of Han Tao, we were so unnerved by the lack of any actual, on-screen tigers that we couldn't bring ourselves to report much actual info about it. Now, we've got some more details courtesy of Eurogamer, including a price (1200 MS points/$15) and a release window (sometime this August).
If you're having trouble placing Invincible Tiger, you might remember it's presented in stereoscopic 3D, if you've got a TV that works with that sort of thing ... which you probably don't. Trust us.

"we were so unnerved by the lack of any actual, on-screen tigers"
Well you must have read the title wrong. They're invisible.
Lakail @ Jul 15th 2009 11:06AM
Actually, everyone is reading the title wrong. It says "Invicible Tiger coming in August to XBLA, PSN"
Note: Invicible does not equal Invisible, nor Invincible.
[tre] @ Jul 15th 2009 11:23AM
No, no, it's because of the fact that there's the word "Tiger" in the title that they were surprised. I don't get why though, considering that all those kung fu movies with "Dragon" in their names didn't have any dragons. (The ones I've seen haven't, anyway)
Dethgar @ Jul 15th 2009 11:03AM
Looks a lot like Valve's Ragdoll Kung Fu.
Damian @ Jul 15th 2009 11:07AM
Valve?
[tre] @ Jul 15th 2009 11:18AM
You're getting Valve (they made Left 4 Dead, Half Life, etc., and aren't fans of the PS3) confused with Media Molecule (the British guys who made LittleBigPlanet, love the PS3).
Unless Media Molecule didn't make the remake of Rag Doll Kung Fu. All I know is that they made the original before creating the company.
sam @ Jul 15th 2009 11:20AM
ragdoll kung fu wasnt valves it was media molecules, it was just on steam...
The_Punisher @ Jul 15th 2009 11:46AM
Why is this site braindead?
He means Valve's take on MM's RDKF (which was so bad it was free at one point xD).
Dethgar @ Jul 15th 2009 12:00PM
My bad, my memory fails me.
Dethgar @ Jul 15th 2009 12:03PM
But wait, there's more!
Title: Rag Doll Kung Fu
Genre: Indie
Developer: Mark Healey
Release Date: Oct 12, 2005
Languages: English
I assume Healey founded MM then. No, I will not google it.
spikeylee @ Jul 15th 2009 11:08AM
what kind of tv is needed for the 3D effects to work?
also, spell check much? or are the missing n's invisible like the tigers?
dantebk @ Jul 15th 2009 11:13AM
Spell check is for amatures.
Exemplar @ Jul 15th 2009 11:21AM
Nah, nah. "Invicible" is like invincible and invisble AT THE SAME TIME.
JoeTheBlow @ Jul 15th 2009 11:12AM
Another $15 game!
What do they think, that we're swimming in money like Scrooge McDuck, these days?
uncle jesse @ Jul 15th 2009 11:18AM
Yeah, I'm not liking the new trend for pricing. Now knowing that Shadow Complex will be $15, every other game going for that same price better be just as good or at least offer the same amount of polish and length to it.
[tre] @ Jul 15th 2009 11:20AM
Blame the economy fairy. She doesn't want to get up off her butt and turn things around, so the devs are probably going to make the prices higher so they can get more money to continue developing.
Snowblind @ Jul 15th 2009 11:23AM
Smaller games continue to be priced at $10, while these bigger ones are $15, I'm not sure why this is so hard to grasp. I can't say I have much of an interest in buying many of these more expensive games, but I simply don't buy them.
Can't wait for Splosion Man next week.
vidGuy @ Jul 15th 2009 11:25AM
Which is normally an absolutely stupid pricing scheme. Normally, you'd see something like 20,000 copies sold at $15 ($300,000) and 35,000 sold at $10 ($350,000), so the lower price makes you more money. BUT, with unknown digital distribution games, I guess they figure that price won't make a big difference in getting their game recognized. If you can't attract more people, the higher price is smarter.
Neuromancer @ Jul 15th 2009 11:23AM
What kind of TV do you need to have to do stereoscopic 3D? Seems like a weird feature for a game of this, uh, caliber...
[tre] @ Jul 15th 2009 11:27AM
Why would it be weird? It fits, considering that it's supposed to be like a classic kung fu flick.
Neuromancer @ Jul 15th 2009 11:51AM
I guess I would expect to see something like this in a bigger budget game, that's all
philongames @ Jul 15th 2009 4:45PM
Stereoscopic 3D will work on any TV with a 120 mhz referesh rate, if I'm not mistaken. You also must be playing through an HDMI cable. Most HD TV's that have been manufactured in the last 10 months are starting to support 120, and all moving forward (except for off-brand Wal-Mart TV's) will be supporting the higher referesh rate. All HD TV's up to this point only support 60 mhz refresh. Just check the TV box or look up your TV's info on Best Buy's website or something like it.
It gets worse though... depending on what brand of TV you have, you'll need different kinds of 3D glasses. The current Samsung DLP's that support 3D require powered 3D glasses that cost around $100 each, while the new Sony LCD's will work with the same type of stereoscopic 3D glasses you get from the movie theater these days (or about $5 each). However, the entry level price for purchasing a Sony LCD TV is higher than a Samsung DLP of similiar screen size. I have the Samsung 60 inch DLP and I LOVE it, but I don't have the same problem of noticing the "rainbow effect" that some people have when they see a DLP image.
My advice would be to do some research at Best Buy or wherever and compare the overall costs to get yourself up and running with stereoscopic 3D, and which type of display you prefer (LCD/DLP). Plasma's probably work too, but I'm a plasma hater... overrated image quality IMOP.
[tre] @ Jul 15th 2009 11:29AM
CRAP! They fixed it.
joeybeast @ Jul 15th 2009 11:31AM
See, I read the title and thought it was a golf game.
JamboGT @ Jul 15th 2009 11:33AM
Had a go at this a moth or so ago, you need the glasses as well as the tv. Not a great game though to be honest but a nice demonstartion of the tech.
JamboGT @ Jul 15th 2009 11:45AM
A month rather than a moth.
Obviously
Morning Toast @ Jul 15th 2009 11:46AM
I'd be all about some kung-fu fighting if not for the $15. Sheesh, especially for a platformer that by nature has limited replayability. Ten and under would be the sweet spot.
WiNG [XBL&Steam: WiNGSPANTT] from lifeinagame.com @ Jul 15th 2009 11:47AM
TIGER UPPERCUT!
Sorry, someone had to.
harvsorrow @ Jul 15th 2009 11:57AM
I love this screenshot, looks like three guys doing an intense dance together. Hopefully there's some Flashdance music in the background...
Note to self: make a game called Kung Fu Dance-off...
PeacefulOutrage @ Jul 15th 2009 12:04PM
Or Westside Story..
When you're a Jet, you're a Jet..
Tim @ Jul 15th 2009 12:01PM
Do I get to spam uppercuts, shots, knees, genocides, and destruction in here? :P
*I dare anyone to miss the joke*
Also, Namco Bandai, just promote your "Big in Japan, niche... in America!" franchises like Gundam, Tales, Xenosaga, Super Robot Wars, Summon Night, Ar Tonelico, to name a few, instead of wasting what could have been PR money for any of these. Last I checked, the first three were flops, due to lack of PR, as the latter three mentioned are being promoted by niche localizers.
Cuksis @ Jul 15th 2009 1:26PM
My Samsung DLP TV is 3D Ready. I just have to buy the glasses to go with it.
Dave @ Jul 15th 2009 1:52PM
Really? I have a Samsung DLP. Are they all 3D capable?
Cuksis @ Jul 15th 2009 2:11PM
I don't think they all are, but it should say in your manual or something if it is.
Evil Richard Mitchell @ Jul 15th 2009 1:57PM
This game looks not very good. I'll try the demo though to give it a chance. But based on the screen shots it looks bad.
tomlinson731 @ Jul 15th 2009 2:44PM
Yeah, this game doesn't looks great. Definitely does not look like its worth $15 and from the looks of it I'd rather play Ragdoll Kung Fu... which was $10.
philongames @ Jul 15th 2009 4:49PM
I saw this game at GDC last year running in 3D. The game itself is no Tekken, but it is a fun and straight forward beat-em up that's good for wasting time with friends. the 3D effect, if you have the TV, is worth the price alone just to show off what your TV can do. It looks amazing in motion.
