Pre-order Alpha Protocol for in-game bonus packs

Are you planning on pre-ordering The Espionage RPG? It may not be at the top of your list, but after hearing about the pre-order bonuses ... well, that probably won't change. Still, if you're planning on picking up the game anyway, they're worth placing an order for. Alpha Protocol will be offering pre-orderers two different in-game packs, depending on where you decide to make your purchase.
The Assault Pack, available from GameStop, unlocks a bunch of the more beefy weapons in the game, as well as giving access to two "exclusive specially modified weapons and extras." The Stealth Pack, available from GameCrazy, is very similar, but is more skewed towards quietly picking off enemies with tranqs and suppressors. Check out the Sega blog for full details.

Looking at the picture, before reading the article, I was hoping they were trying to 1-up Modern Warfare by packaging a working gun with the game.
:(

Just in case the game instills that much disdain for video gaming today, right?
/not a remark on quality; haven't paid any attention to this one
Damon @ Jul 15th 2009 6:45AM
This game does interest me, but i haven't bought a game day-one ever. I wonder how many people these pre-order bonuses rope in...
picasotriggerfish @ Jul 15th 2009 6:48PM
I would have to say it's a large amount considering nearly every A-list game in the last two years has had some type of promotion. Even different retailers have carried different pre-order bonuses.

Ok, this has nothing to do with the game in topic, but what do you guys think about this one? Clank looks badass as Ironman and Ratchet looks pretty tight as Wolverine in the comic strip?!!...What do you think about the art work? By the way, is anyone going to comic con this year?!?!? Jus copy n paste what you think???

The internet: Defining random? Giving random a new meaning? Perhaps random is a god, and the internet it's earthly avatar?
The world may never know.

SO HOW ABOUT WE TAKE ON THAT SUBLIMINAL MESSAGE (in time) RATCHET?!
giantenemycrab @ Jul 15th 2009 7:24AM
Wait, am I the only one that can't wait for this game? I think it looks sweet! It honestly is "at the top of my list." this story makes it sound like a b-list game, but I think it looks like one of the top games this year.
The Dark Wayne @ Jul 15th 2009 10:56AM
I agree, i dont know about top of my list but im definitely excited for it
robotoid @ Jul 15th 2009 11:01AM
Yes, you are. It's just that it looks so generic, it doesn't show anything really innovative or interesting, at least from what we have seen so far, I may be wrong and once you play it the experience could be captivating. But yeah it looks bland.
Professor Lario @ Jul 15th 2009 11:12AM
I'm excited as well, but don't know many details. Hopefully we'll get some more 'hands on' posts soon.
Manly Mcbeefington (Mr. ESC) @ Jul 15th 2009 11:42AM
Me too,I could use a good spy game.Alpha Protocol looks like a Bourne movie made into a videogame
Swagman @ Jul 15th 2009 12:03PM
No, you are not the only one. I too am very excited about this RPG. The pedigree of developers working on Alpha Protocol alone (Fallout, Fallout 2, Planescape, KOTOR 2, etc.), should be more than enough to get any red blooded gamer excited at it's prospect. However, the fact that it is an RPG set in the modern day, and based on the world of espionage, that is like the icing on the cake. Can't remember the last time I played an RPG that was not fantasy or sci-fi based - what, Mother and Rent A Hero? Those were almost a decade ago. And don't think anyone has been so bold as to make an RPG that takes on the world of espionage. To date, that subject matter has always been exclusively the domain of the action game.
I've been keeping a close eye on Alpha Protocol for almost two years now (hard to believe it has been that long), and from what I see of it, I think the final game is going to come out of left field and surprise most gamers, in much the same way that BioShock and Fallout 3 did. I can still remember back when I was the only person in the world seemingly anticipating those games - even just months away from those game release dates, before the pre-launch hype machine kicked in. So far I have a spot-on knack for calling it, and I am calling it on Alpha Protocol too. Come this time next year, this is going to be a huge franchise, of which everyone is going to want to get a piece.
V-Mode @ Jul 15th 2009 7:29AM
So what about those of us living outside of north America where the whole "pre-order" craze hasn't caught on? Are we going to get these things packed in with the game or will they just flip us the bird and leave us empty handed as usual?
Qwaint @ Jul 15th 2009 7:30AM
So pre-ordering doesn't give you anything but some unlocked guns you'd probably unlock whilst playing anyway?
Yeah... no.... but no thanks.
calgaryalta @ Jul 15th 2009 8:16AM
I've been waiting for this game, it will be a first day purchase for me but i'm getting sick of this kind of pre-order in-game bonus, they should stick with other types of bonuses such as figurines or artwork books or anything else that doesn't change gameplay.
ScottG13 @ Jul 15th 2009 8:55AM
Gameflyville, prepare for one more resident.
Owen @ Jul 15th 2009 8:58AM
I REALLY want this game but i live in the UK and was wondering if anyone knows of any preorder bonuses for Europe?
Lilpunkduck @ Jul 15th 2009 6:26PM
Id recommend Game, no bias that I work there, but most games we seem to get pre order bonuses on most games. You need a reward card (£3) to pre order but that earns money back on each purchase and double money back for pre orders so it pays for itself. Gamestation is your other option (who I also worked for for a period of time) both stores require no payment to seal your pre order until day of purchase. Just give it time to see posters popping up.
Storm Eagle::The Blood Edge @ Jul 15th 2009 9:31AM
Look. More useless in-game weaponry.....sigh.
Kdiggy @ Jul 15th 2009 9:48AM
Demon's Souls for me thanks.
The Dark Wayne @ Jul 15th 2009 10:57AM
I wish the bonus was a less generic white guy main character
Swagman @ Jul 15th 2009 11:49AM
I wish every game would feature a less generic, white guy character as the protagonist. All the cornucopia of ethnicity in the whole of human history, and 99% of all games always comes back to the same Abercrombie & Fitch poster boy. Michael Thornton looks like Nathan Drake, looks like Nathan Zachary, looks like William "B.J." Blazkowicz looks like . . . and it just goes on and on and on . . .
Thank goodness for games like Mass Effect, Fallout 3 and Saints Row, where players has some control to create the character they want to play the game as. And thank even more goodness for the likes of Crackdown, which had the balls to actually cast someone other than an Abercrombie & Fitch model, as the lead character.
Doc Doom @ Jul 15th 2009 3:02PM
We need more sassy Latina women in our games.
Petebot330 @ Jul 15th 2009 3:22PM
I'm pretty sure I read that you can create your character, but that it has to be male. I think the genero-dude is similar to the bland-shepard used in the mass effect promo shots.
Bravo6 @ Jul 15th 2009 12:26PM
I'm looking forward to this.
Angel Mass @ Jul 15th 2009 1:20PM
Need more night vision goggles still!
Petebot330 @ Jul 15th 2009 3:24PM
This game looks awesome, but I ain't preorderin' shit.
Lilpunkduck @ Jul 15th 2009 6:30PM
This game makes me think mass effect which eased me into rpgs but i still dislike huge rpg elements ala fallout 3/oblivion but make it something like ME or Fable 2 an I'm in
