With all the work they've put into both versions, it's only a matter of time before it gets released on PC. With MS as the publisher though, they may try to force some stupid Windows 7 only system....

I don't mind if its delayed if it has some maybe cool DX11 exclusive effects, but probably not.
But don't make it 7 only like Halo 2 was Vista only.

Halo 2 was Vista only because Microsoft didn't add DX 10 to XP (although I think there was eventually a workaround). Even if Alan Wake only uses DX 11 graphics, Vista users will still be able to play it since Microsoft will be adding DX 11 support to Vista too.

It shouldn't BE "a port".

2 years ago, this game was used as a tech demo of quad core CPUs that were new at the time. It was a premier showcase of the power only available on the latest PC hardware.

To see it go from that to, effectively, a deferred release schedule like Halo or Gears of War is simply a shame.

I've got a 360, and I desperately want this game, but forcing a property with this much technical and artistic prowess to "maybe be ported to PCs in the future" is disappointing, to say the least.

If there was a way of letting people who buy the game on the 360 (which would be more expensive, usually) play it on PC when it comes out, I wouldn't have much to complain about. Since this isn't an option, PC/360 owners are forced to wait, pay twice, or not experience the (usually) best version of the game on PC.

That's just how it is with PC games nowadays. Unless you got something like WoW that's going to be ridiculously huge, it's barely worth making high end PC games anymore.

EA just annonced that the PC made up a large amount of their overall profits. This even though they haven't released a Madden or Tiger Woods for PC this year. Its a myth that the PC doesn't make up a significant portion of the market.

Since however no one tracks PC sales you are free to make up whatever silly statements about the pc only recieving ports without fear of reprisal from someone who doesn't pull data out of their ass.

The PC is very strong. Don't believe the Gamestop hype. They stopped selling PC games because they can't sell them used, not because no one buys PC games.

I don't see this game coming out for the PC. I mean, realistically it's a one time play through for most. After you beat it, then what? 6 months down the line when you get a new nVidia GeForce 999XXr Hyper Fighting Edition 5GB TuRbo XXX2 videocard, all you'll do is pop open Futuremark, let it do its thing and sit on it for another 6 months, lather, rinse and repeat.

It's a failing market for games like Alan Wake.

Yeah and for the last year or so they've been struggling to make money, so much that they went from being top dog and almost buying Ubisoft in 07, to almost getting bought by Disney (which could still happen).

Captain Planet, why would this game be for a better market on the 360 than PC? I don't think 360 would be a worse market, but neither would the PC.

Speaking as someone who plays a lot of PC game (though admittedly, I am more of a console gamer), you have to admit that even if the PC gaming market is decently large, it really isn't as large and risk-free (I'm referring, of course, to piracy) as the console market.

One can't deny that over the past several years, numerous developers that used to design exclusively or at least primarily for PC has switched to producing primarily or at least greatly for consoles. Look at Bethesda, BioWare, Valve, and so on. Even now, a lot of well known PC developers have tasted console success, such as Infinity Ward and 2K Games.

Even Blizzard has long considered console development (they have licensed numerous console games already unsuccessfully).

I can still remember the rage let out by everyone on my favorite PC gaming board whenever something regarding console popped up. Deus Ex 2 became gimped due to being optimized for consoles? Fallout 3 became first person possibly to accommodate console gamers? PC gamers' poster child for the power of PC hardware, Crysis, may possibly head to consoles?

Here's a question: Does anyone remember the last time GTA came out on PC before it did for consoles? It was GTA2. After that, all GTA games came on consoles first (and some don't come on the PC at all).

I'm not trying to be inflammatory, but at some point or another, when you see numerous developers begin developing a lot for consoles over PC, and you see numerous PC developers praising consoles, maybe you have to wonder whether there really is something the console market has over the PC gaming market.

Some of us happen to have high end rigs, because we do stuff that requires heavy computing power (HD Video, Rendering, Computational fluid dynamics, etc...) so why should I buy the 360 version when its 10$ cheaper on PC like every other game ? Plus I can run it with better graphics, assuming its like most games that are cross platform.

What's so bad about launching the PC version the same time as the 360 version? A lot more people only have an Xbox 360, no gaming PC. If you have a 360 and PC, buy the PC version, how does it hurt you Microsoft? The 360 is doing fine without you hurting us PC gamers, you want us to buy 360s instead?

I hope this means games like Mass Effect 2 won't be delayed for the PC.

Microsoft has nothing to do with the Mass Effect ip anymore and i'm pretty sure that simultaneous release on all systems for ME2 has been confirmed.

I think because it detracts attention from the 360, where they're much more profitable. Generally, PC game prices depreciate much faster than console games, and they're also less expensive. Also, more 360 games on the PC makes their console look less attractive. That's part of the reason why i chose to go with a PS3 instead, as most of the 360 games i was interested in at the time were coming to the PC as well. I had intended to buy a new PC in the future regardless, so i could wait a while. Piracy on the 360 is also less rampant, which is likely a smaller factor. Other than than the GFWL handling achievements, it looks like they've been PC gaming for the most part.

I don't think they'll pull another Vista Halo 2 move again. That only angered people who wanted to purchase it, and gave people incentive to start hacking away at it. I don't know what they were thinking to be honest. A 3 year old game wasn't going to sell an operating system.

Microsoft makes money from developers creating games for the 360 (licensing). The more successful games are on the 360, the more money Microsoft makes, so there actually is a good reason Microsoft wants the 360 version to be the version everyone gets.

They just want to increase sales on the 360 that's all. But I'm going to wait for the PC version since it'll have better graphics and possible mods like Oblivion.

this is plain stupid but expected, first of all alan wake started as a p.c title looong time ago, as a matter of fact it was used to show the great advantages that directx X had to offer with the super OS best known as vista. But now is not a priority and they even talk like if there were no p.c version and all this when we are this close to the release of... surprise windows 7..... mmmmmm.... don´t know but i´m sure this one is going to be used as a way to attract users, not something very unlikely from microsoft

I don't see how killing a PC version of Alan Wake would hurt microsoft. Pretty messed up to announce a game for a platform then cut it as the game coming closer to its release.

Anyways, i hope its a good game, i already have my eye on it and plan on getting it on release day.

The blame lies squarely and solely on Microsoft in this case. Remedy had no way of knowing their publisher would all-but give up publishering for the platform they'd originally intended to release the game.

When did microsoft start hating PCs?

It is a bizzare situation when the main PC OS vendor seems to be actively trying to undermine gaming on their platform.
It's even more bizzare when you consider that the MAIN thing preventing lots of PC owners from switching to OSX or Linux is that they "don't do games".

Pretty soon Windows isn't gonna do games either... at which point i'm off to linux.

It's incredibly dumb for Microsoft to not just ignore the PC gaming market, but actively kick it in the 'nads like this. Personally, if it wasn't for PC gaming, I probably would have moved to Apple or Linux a long time ago. Microsoft seems intent on pushing people like me away from their Windows products, for the sake of a console which (a) they have yet to make any money on and (b) whose success could well be wiped out, Sega-like, at the next iteration.

They seem to have an attitude that if they bring out a game on console, people will prefer it over the PC. Well, I have an XBox 360 (and a Wii) but still do 90% of my gaming on the PC. I've bought all of 2 (pre-owned) games for the Xbox 360 so far, mainly using it as a media extender. By comparison, I've bought 9 PC games since March, mainly online delivery.
