EA shatters our faith in future Mirror's Edge DLC
Mirror's Edge fans are going to have to wait for the sequel before experiencing any new leaps of Faith. EA has told ThatVideoGameBlog that there are no "immediate plans" for more DLC. A downloadable map pack was made available this past February.
Although not a runaway smash, Mirror's Edge did find success and some awards -- even from our little corner of the internet. Hopefully a sequel will address the multitude of frustrating gameplay issues found in the original -- like the combat system. We have fai... ahem, we believe DICE will do right next time.

Please let there be a sequel. This was one of my favorite games last year, and I still play it often.
Neuromancer @ Jul 17th 2009 12:03AM
I agree, maybe just a little forced combat this time.
Neuromancer @ Jul 17th 2009 12:10AM
Sorry, meant to say a little *less* forced combat, or better yet none at all. I'd rather just run.
maveric101 @ Jul 17th 2009 1:27AM
agreed. it's very unique. it's very cool when you pick the perfect path and hit everything just right, flowing through the level in unbroken movement.
Hydrophobicfish @ Jul 16th 2009 6:07PM
Well... It's sad that there's no more DLC... but, if we can confirm there will be a sequel, then I'm happy.
Crazy-008 @ Jul 16th 2009 6:09PM
Reallay a sweet game. I would revisit via blockbuster.
Crazy-008 @ Jul 16th 2009 6:10PM
needs moar bewbies.
Wiizer (Michael Pachter MUST DIE.. Professionally) @ Jul 16th 2009 8:12PM
Inflate some balloons, and stuff'em down your own, douchebag.
maveric101 @ Jul 17th 2009 1:31AM
yeah normally i would be all for the big boobs, but with all that running, jumping, and rolling Faith is doing, even the best sports couldn't keep those things in place, they'd be bouncing all over, popping out of.... you know what? maybe that wouldn't be so bad.
ryanpaulmcgowan @ Jul 16th 2009 6:16PM
If you found the combat system to be frustrating then maybe you were playing the game incorrectly.
*Hint* You shouldn't be fighting people.
Leroy_Octopus @ Jul 16th 2009 6:23PM
There are parts where you have to fight though and the combat system was pretty screwed up. That doesn't make it a bad game just a flawed one.
Hydrophobicfish @ Jul 16th 2009 6:24PM
There are several options where you HAVE to fight. On top of which, entering the game, combat is easier than non-combat a lot of times. There's a sense of being lost, and then having bullets raining from the sky makes trying to find the path incredibly difficult.
You're fooling yourself if you say the integration, and execution of combat wasn't absolutely flawed.
And for the record, before you count me as someone who hates the game, look at the second comment posted in this comment section.
CaramelZappa @ Jul 16th 2009 6:30PM
Regardless of the fact that you should be avoiding combat rather than engaging, combat is still a part of the game, and it was clearly a flawed part. Just because it's a fantastically fun game doesn't mean that it doesn't have flaws, and it's important not to blindly defend a title and cover up the flaws because the people pointing it out are more likely to get EA to realize what's wrong and make Mirrors Edge 2 even better.
ryanpaulmcgowan @ Jul 16th 2009 6:33PM
"There are several options where you HAVE to fight. On top of which, entering the game, combat is easier than non-combat a lot of times. There's a sense of being lost, and then having bullets raining from the sky makes trying to find the path incredibly difficult."
What? That's the entire point. You're not supposed to know where you are supposed to go at all times. Half of the game is about discovering the path you need to take (which there are almost always multiple options). The other half is perfecting it.
There are only a hand full of must fight spots, and they're all finished by a quick disarm and a gun toss. Disarms are the easiest to pull off to boot.
No matter how you slice it, you either sucked really hard at the game or you suck at finding paths.
Or maybe you played it on a console.
Leroy_Octopus @ Jul 16th 2009 6:40PM
Calm down, dude. You're overeacting. No one's saying it's a bad game. We're just saying it's flawed. Fun as hell though when all the elements fall into place.
Hydrophobicfish @ Jul 16th 2009 7:07PM
Okay, Ryan, I'm sorry, I guess YOU'RE the only ubergamer in existence. The thousands of people that have complained about the combat being flawed, the dozens of reviewers who are PAID to voice their opinion on games, who also complained, we're all wrong.
We just looked at the game from the wrong angle. Well, THOUSANDS of people, let's all pack up our stuff, we're suddenly invalidated.
WiNG [XBL&Steam: WiNGSPANTT] from lifeinagame.com @ Jul 16th 2009 7:52PM
No, Ryan is right. There are only 2 really tough sections of the game that NEARLY require guns, the parts where an enemy camps you with the machine gun.
The rest of the enemies are easily run past (imagine that, a Runner running past things). If you spent half the game shooting things, you're doing it wrong. Guns were put in as a crutch.
Neuromancer @ Jul 17th 2009 12:04AM
The internet is full of tough guys.
Lmda @ Jul 17th 2009 1:22PM
"they're all finished by a quick disarm and a gun toss. Disarms are the easiest to pull off to boot."
This line had me literately laughing out loud! Having read your last line what you say could make sense but if you play the console version you will see what I mean. There was one very short Boss fight on a roof that many will attest was anything but fair.
flameofdoom666 @ Jul 16th 2009 6:27PM
I just read the other day on VGchartz.com, that the first DLC pack is going free.
Has anyone else heard about this?
j.howlett @ Jul 16th 2009 8:00PM
they went free in EU psn store. for how long i don't know
Obie @ Jul 16th 2009 6:27PM
I like the concept and look of the game, but I could not get into it for the life of me. :(
Neuromancer @ Jul 17th 2009 12:11AM
You should give it another shot, it's a good game.
uncle jesse @ Jul 16th 2009 6:30PM
More open world
Less linear
More chases
Less fights
More rooftop jumping
Less indoor jumping
More cinemtics
Less animation
More disarming
Less shooting
More online races vs gamers
Less online races vs ghosts
rooshma @ Jul 16th 2009 6:54PM
Correction: fewer fights, fewer races. I figured since DICE is going to be reading and taking your suggestions into account, they should at least be grammatically correct.
uncle jesse @ Jul 16th 2009 6:58PM
Less rooshma
Neuromancer @ Jul 17th 2009 12:06AM
I agree with you completely except the linear paths... To me that's part of the charm of the game, there are times where it really feels like an awesome action movie and I think you'd lose that if you didn't have certain ways to go and scripted events.
Nate @ Jul 17th 2009 10:04AM
The ONLY thing I'd want from this game (and I'd pay a good 30 dollars for it) is an open world to run in. The most fun I've had in this game is running, and right now that can only be done with a race or with people shooting at you.
It's also the reason I bought the game. Playing the demo and using that trick to leave the script. I could run in that playground for a good 30 minutes alone, and it's a small area too.
uncle jesse @ Jul 17th 2009 10:11AM
Just thought of another cool thing they could do - team races. It could be cool to deliver a package from one end of the city to another against another team and you get to choose whatever path you want to take to get there. Each team member has a 'leg' of the race and has to reach the next person and hand over the package, much like a baton, and one person is the anchor at the end.
Demaar @ Jul 16th 2009 6:34PM
Only thing stopping me from picking up this game is that I don't want incomplete DLC if I buy the 360 version, and I'm still yet to pick up a PS3 (maybe when the slims or new models come out, or something?). I really wanna buy it right now and just play, but I don't want a gimped copy.
Bottom line, I hate exclusive DLC. Bethesda made good and released the Fallout 3 DLC on PS3 (as they should have from the get go), why can't EA wise up?
Roto13 @ Jul 16th 2009 6:44PM
It's one time trial map. It's seriously not something that's worth holding out for. (It's not even that fun, because the qualifying times in Time Trial mode are really strict.)
Tyler @ Jul 16th 2009 6:44PM
Just sold my copy and RE:5 on ebay about 10 minutes ago. It was pretty good. The first level set high expectations and it just turned into a chore as it progressed IMO.
Christ-ian @ Jul 16th 2009 10:38PM
..................k
Demaar @ Jul 16th 2009 6:47PM
Time trials were my favourite part of the demo though. I dunno, I guess if I see it for a really good price I wouldn't mind buying a copy with the intention to get it on PS3 later...
Demaar @ Jul 16th 2009 6:48PM
That should have been a reply!
franktinsley @ Jul 16th 2009 6:48PM
I don't get it. The combat was flawed how? Because it was more difficult than a standard FPS? Sure, if you want the combat to be the game switching to FPS mode then you might think it's flawed. But what I found in Mirror's Edge was a very deep and strategic combat system that if played well created incredibly riveting scenarios where the player could literally figure out the logistics involved in being one unarmed person who has to take out an army. If that's not epic then nothing is.
Neuromancer @ Jul 17th 2009 12:07AM
I think the main problem is there are parts of the game where you HAVE to fight, which seems counter to the spirit of the game for many people (like me for example).
PastaHucker 3000 @ Jul 16th 2009 6:55PM
I wouldn't put the blame from lack of DLC on DICE's part here. EA practically aborted all promotion of this game upon its release since it wasn't an instant hit. MI proved to me that good IPs don't belong with publishers like EA-- They lack, well, faith. They're not willing to take a chance on something that's not part of their stable franchises. We should count ourselves lucky that it wasn't turned into a Need For Speed title.
Tyler @ Jul 16th 2009 7:09PM
Well put.
lakaiHIGH @ Jul 16th 2009 7:18PM
ne know if i d/l the free dlc from the euro store will it work with my american copy of mirrors edge?
thanks
L/h
Ashitaka @ Jul 17th 2009 8:12AM
No, it will not work. DLC is region locked, unfortunately :[
WiNG [XBL&Steam: WiNGSPANTT] from lifeinagame.com @ Jul 16th 2009 7:49PM
To everyone who complains about the shooting/fighting, I don't know what you're talking about. I just got this game and beat it on the default difficulty in about 6.5 hours.
I didn't shoot a gun once, and was only tempted to use a gun in one, MAYBE two sections.
Frankly, if you're shooting people, you're playing the game wrong. The whole giant fight in the mall and in the atrium window area can be avoided just by running past the guards and using your parkour skills. Enemies basically can't hit you if you're at top speed or jumping, especially if you're near them, as they'll try to melee you but miss instead.
That said, the game was short, but sweet. Sequel please with ONLINE RACES!!!
Neuromancer @ Jul 17th 2009 12:08AM
Not everyone can be an internet tough guy you know.
sho220 @ Jul 16th 2009 9:21PM
mirror's edge is amazing. also, it's only $20 right now so, if you're looking for something to play, i recommend it! at first, it is a little difficult to get into it, but once you do, you won't want to stop playing.
shadowbender @ Jul 16th 2009 11:28PM
Fantastic game. Can't wait for a sequel.
WiNG [XBL&Steam: WiNGSPANTT] from lifeinagame.com @ Jul 17th 2009 12:37AM
It's not tough. Jump kick any enemy and they're stunned for like 8 seconds. Just jump kick any guy and run for your life.
edwincassagne @ Jul 17th 2009 4:34AM
lol I bought this game because I like asian girls, most games are americans and europeans characters
Kdiggy @ Jul 17th 2009 9:38AM
They should release a patch that makes this game actually fun to play.
Joe @ Jul 18th 2009 11:36PM
It was my GOTY last year, hands down, but I am still pissed off that EA won't put out DLC that works with the Steam version of the game. As soon as I heard Steam was selling it SecuRom free, I jumped on it the minute it came out, but now I can't give them more money, even if I wanted too...
