Marvel vs. Capcom 2 hadoukens PSN on Aug. 13

Capcom sent out a little love letter letting us know that Marvel vs. Capcom 2 will hit, claw, blast and spin-kick the PS3's PlayStation Network on August 13 for $15.

The release will occur two weeks after the XBLA version. The aforementioned date is also the one associated with the rumored retail pack for PlayStation 3, which costs $5 more, but allegedly includes a DVD with exclusive wallpapers, an 8-page manual, one month of free access to Marvel Digital Comics and 2,000 Capcom Unity points. We're checking with Capcom to see if it can confirm this now, as the publisher previously stated it "had no comment at this time."

I hope this trend continues. Retail versions of downloadable games packaged with extra content like this make me want to pay the extra $5!

The idea of the retail disc intrigues me, but the PSN download version is guaranteed to run from the hard drive. I'll wait and see if the retail version installs to the hard drive. I hate playing fighting games that have to load off the optical disc, the load times are terrible.

I can't be the only one who remembers Mortal Kombat 3/4/Trilogy on the original PlayStation, not to mention Soul Calibur 2 and MK Armageddon. The load times were fantastically terrible.

You guys know it's not being released on a disc, right? It's just a redemption code in a DVD case with some extra crap in it.

I guess I can understand why it's coming out the same day as the retail release but its a shame they couldn't have pushed up the retail release by two weeks so it was released on PSN and XBLA the same week..

Feels odd though after getting an exclusive demo and then getting the full version later.

I don't play many multiplayer games, but this next to Worms in my opinion are the best party multiplayer games to play with people in the same room.

So over the original arcade/Dreamcast/PS2 versions, this version for 360/PS3 has 16:9 widescreen and online right?

The background fills the 16x9 area, but the playable field is only 4x3. So you hit an invisible wall.

This is soooo fucking stupid, just put the game in the store.

And then, when it inevitabley is discontinued, retail versions will once again got for $90+ on eBay and even at GameStop.

Thank god you can use custom soundtracks at least in the 360 version to drown out "I'm gonna take you for a ride!"

Both versions are gonna have Custom soundtracks,I still like that song though.

sometimes i'm really pissed off at capcom considering thet THEY GOT THEY'RE OWN DEV PAGE ON PSN and what is this they're doing.

Every time somebody buys a PS3 an angel gets kicked in the nuts.

Bahh its only 2weeks, in the meantime ill play it on my bros xbox untill it releases on PSN.
As long as its not delayed further and thats a global release im happy :D

The two-week wait gets you the version with the correct gamepad to use with this type of game, or even the retail disc if you choose to buy that one.

I love this controller, although the PS3 controller is great for fighting games too.

So there's basically no reason whatsoever for the PS3 version to come out later i'm guessing.

First KoF comes out on the 28th now since I have actual have money on my PSN account more than my XBL account I was going to get MvC2 on my PS3 and that has been pushed to Aug 13.

They buy stuff from Capcom's own store. Why not use real money as the universal currency instead of these damned points? : (

PSN doesn't have a points. Its in currency form

That's one thing I like about Sony and the Playstation store. But for others like Microsoft and Nintendo, scrap the points.

@ captainprotonx: It's not just PS1 games that can be played on the PSP. Some other games have remote play, as well.

If it was a physical disc, I'd be more interested, but I still like the idea of getting the extra stuff at retail, like the Gears 2 expansion was supposed to be.
