Hopefully my 360 doesn't break anytime soon. I have a Jasper model so i don't think RRoD is much of a problem.

E74 on the other hand, I'm a little worried about.

As long as you have it sitting in a horizontal position, then it should be fine.

I have a jasper, sitting horizontal, plenty of exhaust space, sitting on a wire frame one inch off the ground to allow air flow underneath the case too, average 1 - 2 hours a day use... E74 error.

My 2 year old 360, running like a champ. Who knows. I love my 360 though! (and my ps3, ds, psp, and wii for punchout!)

I have never heard of RROD being more prominent in horizontal positions than in vertical. Quite the opposite in fact.

If they actually did on-site repairs like that, it would be awesome. Your xbox RROD one day before MW2 releases? No problem, drop it off at the Microsoft store.

Their sellers won't be as clean as the Mac Geniouses operating in every apple store, nor they will be as helpful, you should probably have to talk to 3 different people in order to get your RROD fixes.

True, but on the other hand, you'll be able to spend money there without ever buying an apple product.

I just have to wonder what they are gonna sell. Only so much space can be devoted to 360 games and Games for Windows and copies of Windows 7. Unless they have life sized models of spartan armour all over the place and surface tables, I can't see what they need the space for.

Keep in mind MS also makes a pretty wide array of computer accessories like mice, keyboards, mics, and webcams. Wouldnt be too surprised to see some generic PCs in there too.

Next thing you going to see is charging for extra Warranty.

Because my 360's just ran out.

So unless they have "Re-new Warranty for 100 MS points", which I think might be 3000 this is stupid.

360 will RRoD at some point, some time, some where.

I like Microsoft stuff so I think it would be cool, but lets face it folks, The Apple stores are successful for one reason: The iPod. Unfortunately Microsoft doesn't have something like that unless you count Windows, and I don't think people will go there to buy Windows.

@ McBeefington "If they sell X360 games at a good price" ... you actually think they would have games below MSRP? Not likely for two reasons.

First, they would still have distribution/retail costs that normally associated with Wall-mart/Best Buy/GameStop/etc. Just because they are the same company that manufactures the stuff doesn't mean they can magically get products into the retailer side. They will have to pay to products to the stores, pay for building lease/maintenance/utilities, hire (underpaid) employees, inflate prices to compensate for stolen merchandise, etc. All retailers have to keep product prices above the wholesale price to pay for all this other stuff, let alone turn a profit. A Microsoft Store would not be excluded from these expenses.

Second, it is believed that MS still takes a slight hit or only breaks even on the console manufacturing costs. Even as part prices drop, they have had to lower the MSRP of the console to stay competitive. They pass this burden onto the retailers, who pay almost full MSRP to carry the consoles in their stores... Both, Microsoft and the retailers are willing to take that hit because you will end up spending money on extra games/controllers/cables/etc. These are HEAVILY marked up, and that is how they turn a profit -- from the accessories, not the console.

@Gib: but that doesn’t mean they won’t have the occasional deal. I mean, it won’t be dirt cheap or anything, but they could have a sale when gamestop or target isn’t...hooray for competition.

I could also see them hosting Halo (or TF2?) parties or something like that. Well, they’d most likely do it with new games, but who knows? They’d just want to get people into the store. Try out the multiplayer, leave with the game or at least some new xbox friends.

@ Petebot

If you look at any manufacturer's retail store (Apple, Bose, SonyStyle, etc), they don't give any special deals. Almost ever. They have no reason to and they can't afford to.

Don't get me wrong. Your ideas of the multiplayer hosting and demos galore would be great. I'd go and check out the store, but I wouldn't expect any deals.
