Bayonetta jumps to January 2010, hits Japan October 29

Following on the less fashionable (and deadly) heels of games such as BioShock 2 and Singularity, Sega's Bayonetta and its bespectacled title character have slid -- gracefully, we'd imagine -- into 2010 for the US and Europe; January '10, to be precise. Sega West president and COO Mike Hayes has commented, "As a result of market analysis we have taken a Publishing decision that January 2010 is the optimum release time in the Western Markets to maximize this exciting new title's potential."

Surely this has nothing to do with the prospect of going up again the "biggest entertainment launch of all time."

It was announced in April that Bayonetta would see a simultaneous worldwide release in the fall of this year. Now only Japan will be getting it before the year is out. It hits in developer Platinum Games' home territory on October 29.

Early 2010 -- it's the new Holiday 2009!

guaranteed that half of these games getting pushed back to early 2010 get pushed back to fall 2010.

I don't think they ever had any intention of releasing this game this year.

Honestly not surprised, and tbh, this would probs get overshadowed by other releases on xbox and ps3 so early 2010 isnt that that bad i guess

I was really hoping to play this this year. Oh well, hopefully the can make this game that much better with a little extra time. I also hope this keeps me playing longer than DMC4 did.

They needed more time to get Sarah Palin in there to do the voiceover and mo-cap now that she has lots of free time.

Okay, so what IS being released around the sam timeframe as MW2?

Because, we need to write a letter to warn them.

ODST and Dragon Age are the biggest ones I can think of.
Personally, I'll be getting both of them over MW2, especially because of it's £55 price tag in the UK.

I'm sorry but ODST is just an immature game. Have you look at how these ODST talk? They sounded like 12 year old kids joking around in a warzone.

ODST is in late September, though. Plenty of time to get out of the way.

I would bet that New Super Mario Bros. Wii is going to wind up right in the same area, the first half of november. I'd be willing to bet that it'll hit either the week before, or the same week.

Demon's Souls is getting my money, while I spit in the general direction of Activision.

mario won't really be competing with MW2 then, since MW2 isn't on wii.

let's be honest those two games were the only two that were going to be considered for game of the year anyhow.

if this was really planned as a worldwide release that should mean the Japanese version will most likely include an English text option.

Unless it also gets pushed back like everything else, at least I'll have Demon's Souls to keep me preoccupied until the great RPG mash-up of 1st quarter 2010. Please, Atlus, don't push Demon's Souls back! I'm begging you. Out of every other game that is(was) coming out this year, I've been looking forward to that game the most. Please! Please! Pleeaassee!!

BTW, what's up with just about every major fighting franchise releasing this year? I know it's a bit off topic, but I'm just curious. King of Fighters XII, Street Fighter 4, BlazBlue(spiritual successor to Guilty Gear), MVC2, Tekken 6(maybe), ect.

Disappointing for me since I was looking forward to the title, but at least it's not a huge push back, only about 3 months isn't too bad

wtf! if every body does this then we are just trading a crowded fall 09 for a crowded early 2010 it really defeats the purpose, damn! i was looking foward to this, icing on the shit cake that its still coming out early for japan.

Well, that still leaves Halo ODST, Uncharted 2, Left 4 Dead 2, Alpha Protocol, Dragon Age, and Brutal Legend (and yes, MW2). Cool.

I totally agree...2010 is going to have a boatload of games...and I expect that very soon others will follow...Uncharted 2...Brutal Legend...Batman..Assasins Creed 2...& FF13 will most likely fall into H2 2010...

H2 2009 is looking pretty weak...

at least they can gain more sales by not being over ran by the likes of MW2 and Uncharted 2

It's probably for the better. Taking on the likes of Modern Warfare 2, Brutal Legend and Assassin's Creed 2 would be quite devastating... what with the latter two being quite similar third person action/adventure games, one a new IP sure, but the other an established series. Meanwhile, Modern Warfare 2 is... well... Modern Warfare 2, and that's enough, lol.

I feel a great disturbance in the Force, as if thousands of fat neckbeards cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced.

I guess you guys will just have to fap to the screenshots of the game in the meantime.

I feel like releasing any additional games in Q1 2010 is a HUGE mistake. Is there ANYTHING that is not coming out Q1?
I just dont see how a niche game like this can survive in that environment. (yes i said niche. This game is very hard core)

Is there anyone who's anticipating this game in the hope of receiving a DMC-style combat system that rewards dozens of hours of practice, instead of... well... boobies?
