Brutal Legend's four-on-four multiplayer (vaguely) detailed

Lo, what is this? Xbox.com's info page for Brütal Legend actually contains some noteworthy ... info on the game? It's true, and said info has to do with the game's yet-to-be-revealed multiplayer component -- y'know, the one that provided the basis for the single-player game's strategy elements?
According to the site, the game will include a four-on-four XBL skirmish mode which "marries action combat with a strategic unit-control mechanic," and sees each player battling "as the leader of one of the factions in the game." Given that the single-player game will feature showdowns between whole armies comprised of numerous specialized units, we can see this "skirmish" becoming a full-on war -- a "battle of the bands," if you will, only with lives on the line in lieu of recording contracts. (Isn't it always better that way, really?)

Too bad it's not splitscreen. Who cares?

Brutal Legend's multiplayer component interests me precisely as much as Bioshock 2's.
ArchiGamer [thephilosophyofgames.wordpress.com] @ Jul 17th 2009 4:52PM
There's multiplayer?!!!
Mazrael @ Jul 17th 2009 4:59PM
that's what I thought... my 'excitement' for the game has been lowered...

Oh you've got to be fucking kidding me, son. THEY'RE DEVELOPING MULTIPLAYER, SO OBVIOUSLY THEY'RE SHAFTING WHAT WOULD HAVE OTHERWISE BEEN AN AWESOME SINGLEPLAYER GAME, RIGHT?

...yes, I will grant you that multiplayer in several games lately has been tacked on, but can we at least save judgment until hands-on impressions debut?

fixed. i didn't think i could get more excited for this game, but i am now. and no, it doesn't sound tacked-on like bioshock 2's multi. see the article that says it began with multiplayer?
ArchiGamer [thephilosophyofgames.wordpress.com] @ Jul 17th 2009 5:28PM
For me, its neither a bonus or a negative, multiplayer is not what a care about in a game. If its good, its good because of its main core, the singlepalyer, not of its bonuses.

Oh, I wasn't talkin' to you, lad.
Mazrael @ Jul 18th 2009 1:43PM
Single player is where it counts. Why do they keep having to slap MP on to most games. for me personally, I very rarely even bother with it. Halo 3 or Gears horde modes are the only ones that I've tried for more than a few games..
cafecito @ Jul 17th 2009 4:58PM
This game is getting way too ambitious for its own good. I hope it doesn't fall flat on its face :S
James @ Jul 17th 2009 5:05PM
yes that's a great idea dilute a already great looking game with unnecessary multiplayer
Sly @ Jul 17th 2009 5:18PM
see where it says it began with multi? in this case, your precious single player is actually getting better because of the multi.
NFK @ Jul 17th 2009 5:10PM
The single player was literally derived from the multiplayer, the multiplayer is not being slapped. So you can all chill your nips.

I don't buy singleplayer games...I guess I'm the demographic they're looking for? If there's no (multiplayer) replay value, why spend $60?
MaliceMajorE15 @ Jul 17th 2009 5:53PM
"the game will include a four-on-four XBL skirmish mode"
I wish when people speak about multiformat games they remember there is such thing as a PSN.
I dont know if this was from the source site or Joystiq but i find it irksome when this occurs
dark_inchworm (on Steam!) dark inchworm (on XBL!) @ Jul 18th 2009 12:14AM
Heh. The info was taken from the Xbox.com page for Brutal Legend.
James @ Jul 17th 2009 5:57PM
in some case yes its good to have but not in every game the story and gameplay should come first not some useless multiplayer
cafecito @ Jul 17th 2009 6:12PM

Really, I'm in for the game for it's humor and silly story... that's what defines Tim Schaefer. I couldn't care less for multiplayer, there's tons of other games for that.
Dowse @ Jul 17th 2009 6:30PM
You go out of your way to buy games that only have single player?
cafecito @ Jul 17th 2009 6:43PM
Nah, I don't get "multiplayer-only" games... such as Left 4 Dead, battlefield and the like.
Mazrael @ Jul 19th 2009 12:46PM
'Singleplayer only' is a bonus in my book, it's one less feature I won't be using
