As much as I dislike Squaresoft for this Smash rip-off, I'm rather excited to see Kefka. All I need to do is find a PSP seeing as mine has...absconded somewhat.

"Smash ripoff?" In what sense? A character mashup fighting game? Sorry, King of Fighters did it five years before Smash Bros. first came out. And it doesn't play anything like Smash, either. Closer to a less-elegant version of Destrega or something.

I hope you realize that Square released a FF fighting game with like this before called Ehrgeiz, and it came out a year before SSB.

Eh, sort of. Ehrgeiz was strictly ground-based, though. Dissidia's got all the Advent Children physics going on. Flying about a 3D box and blasting up close and from a distance.

Dissidia is to Smash as Madden is to Harvest Moon.

The games are completely different, in style and execution.

Oh, a demo? Score, lol. I hope it doesn't go the route of every Square announcement and get delayed. I really want to try it out, even if I am going to buy it anyway.

Place your bets on who the playable characters will be!

OK, that's not fair, of course it's going to be Cloud and Sephiroth because those are the only characters most North American gamers know.

I should have added "in the demo" then. Cuz they're not going to give us the full roster for the DEMO.

Oh. I expect it to be the same characters from other demos. Warrior of Light for sure, with some maybes on CLoud, Firion, Squall, and Zidane. And then their respective villains.

I'm betting that the following 22 characters will be playable ;)

Goodies:
Hero
Warrior of Light
Firion
Onion Knight
Bartz Klauser
Terra Branford
Cloud Strife
Squall Leonhart
Zidane Tribal
Tidus
Shantotto
Cosmos

Baddies:
Garland
The Emperor
Cloud of Darkness
Golbez
Exdeath
Kefka Palazzo
Sephiroth
Ultimecia
Kuja
Jecht
Gabranth
Chaos

(From: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dissidia:_Final_Fantasy#Characters)

Now, begin with the complaints of 'so-and-so' is missing.

I've already been playing the game for 2 weeks or so. It's interesting, the battle system is kinda tough to understand but it gets easier. The leveling sstem is cool, but haven't gotten into specifics about doing a certain move. It's a pretty fun and challenging game overall though.

Same here. It gets really kinda hard in some fights. Onion Knight did so little damage he made me rage at the Emperor battle. Fought that mofo at least 30 times in a row.

I played the Japanese version, and from the 50+ hours I played, I can tell you it's different, and no, Cosmos and Chaos are NOT playable characters. You can fight Choas, but unless you use cheats/hacks your not gonna play them. Great soundtrack though, you can pick a track to have playing in the backgroud. I usually played One-Winged Angel(original) and Otherworld(FFX Jecht fight), but that's only two out of the 30+ tracks they put in there.

This game is indeed fantastic. I've logged around 50 hours on the Japanese version and am still not finished! I've preordered the English version and can't wait for release.

I've been playing for a while but as of yet haven't got Shantotto. i want her most of all! she rules. I agree the soundtrack is brilliant. Almost all of the best tunes from each game.

As someone who owns the game, I have to say that's this is what you would expect from a team who has never made a fighting game before. It's nothing really special. That being said, the Japanese voice work is pretty amazing, and it will hopefully be included on the American release as well for those interested.

Where is Vann from 12?

I pre-ordered already from Amazon. It was a few bucks off, plus you get a 12 track CD with the sound track. Can't wait. This is the first game in months, that I've been looking forward to.

Shantotto and the Judge are special chars you don't get until the end of the game. Dissidia is really just for the first ten Final Fantasies, the Hero from XI and the Villain from XII are unlockables.
